    Another great informative video. Thank you! I’ve already received my Transferwise card that you discussed before. Can I get the Rappi card while in the States or do I have to wait until I arrive in Mexico? I’ll be there in 9 days 😁.

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  3 роки тому +3

      Awesome! Be sure to use that Transferwise card at an ATM in the states to activate it before you leave. Secondly, you can only get the Rappi card in Mexico if the city you go to has it. Certain areas do not. They deliver it on their motorcycles like everything else.

      @@andibee5060 no you order it through the Rappi app just like you do anything else. The have two cards now a Red Debit Visa card, which is the one I’m referring to and a Black credit card. You will need to verify your identity with scans of your ID and Passports. But once that’s done they will deliver the card to you on a motorcycle just like a normal delivery.

    Realize this is an old video but it just can't across my page. Two things:
    1. I recently heard about the conversion option bottom which I'd previously misunderstood live others. My concern is that I use several different ATM'S depending on where I am in the city when I need the cash. I've noticed several ATM's do NOT show a conversion button. What does this mean? What conversion rate am I actually getting? It doesn't even show up on the receipt I get back.
    2. I read before about the Charles Schwab debit card reimbursing you guys ALL transaction fees so we obtained that debit card and use it for all ATM withdrawals. Didn't know if you are familiar with this one.
    I'm going to subscribe to your channel as I liked the way you explained things in layman's terms and made it easy to understand. Thanks 4 what you're doing!🙂

      Thanks for subscribing. The Charles Schwab card is one people swear by. I’m not sure what rate you are getting if they don’t show you a conversion rate. I would guess you are getting one from your bank. It should be easy enough to determine. Look at your bank app after a withdrawal and see how much they charged you for the amount of cash you received to determine the rate. I go to Mexico on vacation to a small town on the coast of the Baja. I rarely need anything but my credit card. Some places have a surcharge, but to say Mexico is a "cash-based" society is a little misleading. Still, it's good to know about this scam.

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  3 роки тому +1

      In comparison to a place like the US where we rarely use anything but debit, credit, or Apple Pay, or Samsung pay it is a cash based society. Also, many vacation spots are going to accommodate you with cc terminals. I’ve been to so many places that are effectivo only. Many of your main bills like rent are cash only. So it’s a small difference from vacationing in a place that will make it easier for you to contribute to the economy versus living in the country. From the perspective of living here, it is a cash based society.

If you decline the ATM transaction fee; then your transaction will end. Either way, if it I did go to a machine that would not let me decline the DCC, I would go to another one because they can charge you whatever and you are not going g to get the best rate. They just saved you money.

    Hey Mexiplans..So, I'm coming to Mexico City in June. I've ordered the Wise Card and It should be here before my trip. I understand that I need to use the card in the US first to activate it, so my question is...when I load US money onto the wise card from my US debit card bank account before I arrive in MXC, does the wise card automatically change whatever US money I load on the card or do I need to do something on my app to make sure that my money will be in Pesos and ready for me to withdraw when I get to MXC?

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  3 роки тому +1

      Your USD will be held in your account as USD. You need to convert that money into a Mexican Peso account using the wise app. I generally wait until the rate is over 20-1 or at the highest that I can get. But you must convert the USD to MXN in the app.

    Helpful video. Thanks.
    When I travel internationally I always use my Charles Schwab debit card to withdraw cash because they reimburse all ATM fees anywhere in the world. I just spent nine months living in Mexico and that’s how I got my cash. I’ve always declined the conversion option, knowing that it’s a scam. I paid as much as possible by credit card. But like you point out, sometimes you do need larger sums of cash in Mexico like for rent and utilities. And sometimes yes I’ve noticed it takes planning to get enough cash over the course of days. Aside from the ATM fees and bogus conversion offer, do you think the exchange rate provided by our banks is decent when we get cash from atms? Or is it better with Rappi?

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  2 роки тому +1

      Wise is better. The Rappi pay solution no longer works but I also use the Apple credit card and it has no fees and a conversion equivalent to Wise. I don’t withdraw cash with it but I use it to pay for things.

    Can we just bring USD cash and convert the cash to pesos in a exchange machine?

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  3 роки тому

      They have businesses and kiosks in the mall that will change over US Bills. You will get the worst exchange rate using that method. You may as well do it at the airport. It will be the same horrible exchange rate.

      Yes but If you don’t decline the DCC you will pay extra for the conversion. The point is to let your bank do the conversion not the atm.
