Lamborghini is using Audi engines. I won't be surprised, once the Japanese increase their HP to Liter ratio will be the Italians next power plants. The Japanese have reliability & consistency on lock currently. Lexus just achieved entry to 500hp domain the Germans have been going on decades now. The Germany make just falls short of reliability. Notably, BMW M5's weak rod barings. Their V6 Turbo engines overheat. Not to mention their notorious "Spontaneous Vehicle Combustion". A definite black eye in the game. When's the last time a Fiat caught fire?
Aaaand Saleen used an 05 Ford GT to benchmark the S7 against. Later Saleen put turbos on the S7, and then they made a few Competition package cars. On of them was a black on black S7 TT, it makes about 850hp, and a few years later, Bugatti borrowed that car to benchmark the Veyron against it. So in a very roundabout way the Ford GT was part of the Veyron development
I saw a storie where Chevy benchmarked their C8 Corvette ZO6 engine against the Ferrari 488GTB and then switched to the 458, because the 488 was turbcharged and didn't sound as good as the 458. They also used much of the engine design, but just took it to the next level. I think it makes good sense to use designs that have been proven, as long as you're not steeling those designs.
Corvette took Ferrari's design and improved on it. 4.5L--->5.5L, 562hp--->670hp. Now reular people can have a naturally aspirated high-revving track machine that's not a $200,000 millionaire mobile.
When I started restoring my Jalpa, the amount of cross referenced parts to other cars I found was crazy. The upside to this is that they can be cross referenced, so when you can't find "factory OEM parts" you know there's an alternative out there for much less. Lamborghini used the BMW M5 clutch from an 80s M5 in the Jalpa. So for instance if you go look at a kit, they're about $4k. There is virtually no difference, besides one thing, which is the ears of the pressure plate are slightly skimmed to clear the weird edges of the flywheel. But a BMW M5 clutch kit is like $700, so for $3300 less, you can get one, shave it down yourself and be done. They also used Fiat X1/9 headlights. Brake parts from the countach, and also from a maserati. The window switches were from some weird european van I can't remember the name of. You gotta love how parts bin some cars are from back in the day.
In this highly competitive industry, benchmarking is common. GM holds design patents that would have shut the industry down decades ago, and they openly encouraged other manufacturers to use their designs. GM also owns most skateboard EV design patents from the 70s. EVs owe their evolution to many electrical appliance companies as well.
When I worked at the PDC building in Ford, they had us go into the lower level and test out Mercedes and BMW infotainment systems. This was to see how quickly we could use it and ease of use. Then they took the comments and it helped build their Sync 3 system.
There's one you missed. Toyota was seen testing both the Ford F-150 and Lincoln Navigator during development of the Tundra. I don't know which engines were tested, but the 3.5 ecoboost and powerboost (hybrid) engines were obviously among the ones tested. Proof: Toyota has a 3.5 twin turbo V6 in three different stages of tune-348HP, 389HP, 409HP (Lexus LX and Toyota Land Cruiser only) and then the same 3.5 twin turbo V6 paired with battery packs for a combined 437HP, all paired with a 10 speed automatic transmission.

Nothing they are doing was really done in secret or in any way shady. Yes, of course they want to be able to say their new model is better than a competitors existing model in some way so they buy them so they can do in-house apples to apples comparisons. As for the parts sharing... was this in any way a secret to anyone? Especially in European cars. They buy parts from each other all the time. And a lot of the cottage manufacturers cobble half the car together from other, bigger companies. That is how they get started. They buy the small parts from 8 other companies spare parts warehouse, cobble the (usually stunningly beautiful) body out of fiberglass and wood. Ferrari is the best, they never “mix the blood.”
Silly post... This is not new or news; it has been going on since the second carmaker opened their doors.
I can’t wait to drive my new bmw Supra
I think it's kind of cool that General Menace took a 458 to make the C8. It's awesome that they pretty much made a better more reliable 458. It was about time . As far as them using generic parts head lights, marker lights , They kind of have to the machining costs are just too great . Or to put it another way if they didn't do things like the UPS truck using Olds heads lights the cost to the consumers who be much greater.
You're saying that because you hate Chevrolet Corvette C8
Germans are the most copied.
Good video but what a clickbait thumbnail.
I am not early but i just want to comment on a video and say bisector of photosynthesis
Hello
Hello
Nothing wrong with reverse engineering the world has cars, internet, TV's, houses, cuties, BUILDINGS!!! And more things that we have took from eachother and learnt to do them better. Almost all vehicles designs are structured after Porsche, BMW, or Audi. The world wouldn't have V12s without the USA, or computer timing without the Japanese. Great video but it seems like an unnecessary rant. Like who had Sandals first! Egyptians or Chinese? Lol bruh - BTW the C8 is a monster I love it but don't recommend it because the transmission goes out as fast as it's engine gets 0 - 60 😅
Almost everything ever built has been copied to death, the Japanese did it with British motorcycles in the 60, European cars in the 70s, they even blatantly went on TV with the statement Britain invents, Japan perfects, hows that for sticking it to you?
You did your homework, good for you, but you are miss leading your audience with the way your stylizing this report. Your making something so normal seem criminal, they will sue each other if it was.
Seriously using Ukraine colors? Yikes lol cringe af
