Great review but I think I’ll stick with the previous model with 2 large metal D rings inside each pocket, plus the side Velcro panels holding the pockets flat against the leg 👌. The only downside of the old model is that I needed to cut drainage holes in the inner compartments.

Awesome as always Mark. Could you do a review of the Highland Pocket Shorts? I bought one of their glue-on pockets for my neoprene drysuit and it is an amazing pocket, but the shorts look like a flimsy material. Also the sizing is tough to discern... so some indication of fit over a wet/drysuit would be handy. I live in a smaller remote location, so the luxury of store access to look, feel, try on is not there. I’m curious if these would fail due to the short’s sloppiness under water, despite awesome pockets. Thanks!
The old model does not have the glued seams, but the biggest tell is the pockets. The old model has metal d-rings inside instead of corded loops, and the outside has two velcro flaps on the sides of each pocket that can be used to keep the pocket from expanding.
@@jkowall I prefer the d-ring as it's easier to hook items by feel only. Just by looks, it seems one handed operation may be a bit more difficult, but I haven't had the chance to use these new shorts in the water yet. Time will tell
I personally fitted bungee loops to the D-rings , since clipping metal onto metal isn´t always a desired option , and that the pockets always had to manually emptied on the old ones wasn´t so cool either ;)

I agree 100%! I’m looking at purchasing one of these tech shorts and would love a comparison. Also, how do they affect trim and buoyancy - if at all?

How small do they go? I haven't found anything small enough for a 26" waist yet.

@@aralverson Thanks! My Halcyon pockets also have corded loops, I think it's a better design.

Does one order a size larger than you would wear if it weren’t going over a wetsuit ?
