I’ve never worked on something like this before and I am so thankful for you! This video helped me save my mom 1500 to replace and install a new aerator. I did it for the cost of the kit. I appreciate the guidance.
Great how to video. It was nice seeing it on a used pump that needed to be rebuilt instead of a new one. It was nice to hear the little tricks and secrets that needed to be watched out for.
My Clearwater pump is moving air out of the intake and the out also. I Ordered a kit for my clearwater CS103E. Will be rebuilding the pond aerator tomorrow. Again, GREAT VIDEO!
Awesome video, exactly what I needed. And, awesome people, I called to ask about the Orange gasket because mine didn't have one and there's no trace of one. The woman I spoke with told me if it doesn't have the gasket then don't worry about it, some models have it and some don't....just make sure if you have it you don't destroy it. Then she tried to cross reference my pump for me and she had Adam call me back to let me know for sure which rebuild kit I needed. He called back within 2 minutes and told me exactly what I needed. Fantastic experience and I will definitely look here for any septic needs, THANK YOU!
That's what we are here to do. Its long but the other videos don't show a real rebuild they show a new unit and its just not what you run into on a real rebuild. Tried to cover everything you might run into.
I just did the rebuild kit by following along with your video but have been having a breaker issue with just the compressor breaker. it's tripped several times and I was told I need a new breaker so now I'm stumped and will likely have to get a professional. I did notice that by accident, (I realize thats bad) I touched the wire to what I think is a red switch in the lower right control panel box and the compressor runs only when wire is touching that. I am so disappointed that I didn't get everything back up and running. :(
I haven't disassembled yet. With the power on, my unit tries to come on and hums (slight buzz) a few seconds and then stops. Then tries to come on again. Stops. Do you think it's the compressor or motor?
Well the other videos don’t show what really happens with the seals and gaskets on the unit and all that really goes on when they have to be rebuilt. We said to ourselves it is kinda misleading because nothing on the unit comes off that easy on one that really needs a rebuild on it. So we did a real rebuild.
I’ve never worked on these as we never had a septic system. Mine stopped working. I tried to rotate the fan blades. Won’t budge. Any helpful trouble shooting info on a procedure would very much help to get it up and running. Thanks. PS. I just purchased a FUJI from your company a couple days ago to replace mine, but repairing the old to have a back up would be great.
Rafael Barrientos Hi, this is a great video. the vanes broke on my pump, so I took it apart and cleaned everything inside. Went and purchased the repair kit, installed everything like i watched on the video. The motor turns, but there is no air blowing from the pump. What did I do wrong?
No air and the motor is turning is different. If you call the office we can give you the house phone to send a video and see what is going on it’s kinda hard to guess. Even with the vanes in wrong you will get some air.
Hey there, I know this is an old video but hopefully y'all still get notified about questions. My old Gast Aerator has a motor start cap on top, which I replaced about 4 years ago when it wouldn't run, and it's been going ever since. however, it has basically stopped producing air so Its probably time to just replace it (it's 18 years old). I notice the newer pumps don't appear to have a capacitor on them, and I was wondering if you could tell me why ?
They needed a start cap on the old RVTrader models because they where 1/6 hp to compete with the linear pumps on power consumption. Issue was the the caps going out. That unit is one of the ones that lasted like intended. Most of them did not so the switch was made to use the same motor as the 0523 that has no issues. Now they are all 1/4 hp motors.
Just watched your video, thanks for sharing! When I took mine (Gast AT05) apart I didn’t see the orange gasket. Do some ship without or is it possible they missed it from the factory?
I changed the vanes and filter of the pump GAST 0523-101Q-G588NDX, the motor is rotating( at least giving loud sound) but it is not pumping. What could be the reason?
I have a gast 0323 that is dated back from 2011 and seems to be a bit different then the newer 0323 models. Mine doesn't have any filters any where that I can see, it just has a hole marked "inlet" where a hose from the septic lid was connected to, and it also has some kind of clear cup like container screwed into a fitting on an elbow attached to the pump across from the hole marked "inlet". It also doesn't have any gaskets of any kind when I took it apart. The felt gasket that comes with your kit also doesn't look like it would fit anywhere on my pump even if mine had a gasket. Will the regular 0323 rebuild kit that you guys sell work with mine? I've already bought the kit and installed the vanes and orange gasket that come with the kit, but wanted to check just in case it does any long term damage. Pump seems to run fine and sounds just as yours did, was just confused about why mine didn't need any of the extra parts?
Some come with filters and some come with glass jars on them vacuum applications. The rebuild is the same the vanes have no difference. You might have got a vacuum style even though the specs are the same it wouldn’t come with the top inlet filter the pressure models have.
The motor probably cycled to many times with the vane stuck in the counter face and burned up. Very rare they go past 20 years. I have seen them run but they don’t build and create enough pressure at that age and i have seen a lot of them thousands of them in the field.
@@wholesalesepticsupply9801 thanks for the response. Yes the pump ran from 1997 until this year, 24/7, except when I rebuilt the vanes about 12 years ago. Oh also it outlasted the shelter it was in so it was stopped for a few hours while I built the new enclosure:)))
I got the rebuild kit and put in the vanes just as video demonstrated and the pump now works! however, it runs quite hot, too hot to touch in fat, but it is still pumping, what could I have done wrong?
Awesome :) thank you for the quick response. You are the savior :) I am going to order it right away from your website. What should I use as the cleaning agent. the Gast recommended solvent seems to be very expensive. I'll need the external filter, 24hr/15 minutes timer as well. I don't see it in your website.
Saravana Bharathi we don't use anything just make sure any chunks of carbon are not in the housing. The vanes lay a film down so they wear against the same material so cleaning the counter face is really not needed. Just blow it out really good. We rebuild hundred a year literally.
GE model 5KH36FNA859X Motor froze up & didn't blow breaker, did those shims jam motor ? & will kit take care of my problem, & how long do I have to fix this motor before back up issues thanks Rick
Depends you have to get out the. Get the rotor freed up if jammed. Once that is done you can turn the unit on if it spins it works in 90 percent of the cases to be 100 percent sure hold your palm against the rotor apply a little pressure with your palm if the rotor doesn’t slow you are good to go.
Thank you for your quick response. When I opened my system I found out that the orange gasket is missing or completely ruined. I don't see the orange gasket in the kit. Is it possible to order the orange gasket separately? or is it that some units / older models didn't have the orange gasket. Another question: The date code on the model shows 0101 - does it mean it was manufactured in Jan 2001? does it mean it might have been used for about 15 years? is it worth rebuilding or should I go and buy a new motor. Once again thank you for answering my questions and yours is the best video I found on rebuilding gast rotary vane pumps :) keep it up.

Stacey Pittman thanks that’s why i made it the other videos are quick but not the reality of what needs to be done. Thanks for letting us know.

Just rebuilt my Clearwater Pump. The orange gasket was not there but it in now. It works great. Bought the kit from Wholesale Septic supply.
If it’s not on there no need to add it. We never put it back on if it come out there is no lose in pressure and it does affect anything.
Thanks again for you excellent help. The pump is working great now, and I saved a lot of money using your rebuilt kit.
BAA thanks if you have anymore questions let us know we are here to help.

nx99 your welcome.

Awesome real-world video! Actually on a used pump. LOL! I am also in South Texas. Shroeder area.
Well the other videos don’t show what really happens with the seals and gaskets on the unit and all that really goes on when they have to be rebuilt. Have you opened the pump end not the motor end and checked if a broken vane is Jammed between the rotor and the counter face.

Will rebuilding the pump like this help with how loud my motor is running?
Hey there, I know this is an old video but hopefully y'all still get notified about questions. Are the vanes put in the correct way and is the unit tight enough.
My Gast 1023 has a broken air fan between the motor and the pump. Is that repairable by taking the pump offf?
No it is not.
I have a gast 0323 that is dated back from 2011 and seems to be a bit different then the newer 0323 models. I have an old Belt driven one that I plan to use with a small gas engine
Mine went 25 years. Now the shaft is froze up. I did replace the vanes once. Why would it be froze up?
Also I’ve looked at the vanes and although worn, they don’t look like any have broken.
The motor probably cycled to many times with the vane stuck in the counter face and burned up. Very rare they go past 20 years. I have seen them run but they don’t build and create enough pressure at that age and i have seen a lot of them thousands of them in the field.

Elliott Metcalfe the run at 140 degrees normally.

Same model here. Motor froze and does not spin freely. What did you end up doing to fix it?
Can i grease the rotor bcz its making noise too much
My motor froze after taking out all the bronken vane. Does that mean it cant be rebuilt?
Depends you have to get out the. Get the rotor freed up if jammed. Once that is done you can turn the unit on if it spins it works in 90 percent of the cases to be 100 percent sure hold your palm against the rotor apply a little pressure with your palm if the rotor doesn’t slow you are good to go.
My gast unit is not rotating and motor housing is hot to the touch.. is it repairable with kit?
Cecil fishing tips yes it is more than likely the vanes have broken and are bound in between the rotor and the counter face locking up the motor.
What is the kit model number for Gast 1023 ? Could you please post the link or kit number here? Very useful video though. Thank you for posting.
Saravana Bharathi the kit for the 1023 is the k479. Here is the link. www.wholesalesepticsupply.com/products/gast-0823-1023-rebuild-kit-k479

Saravana Bharathi there is no orange spacer on the 0823/1023 unit only on the at05 unit.
If pump is humming can it be rebuilt?
No generally the motor is no good.
Good helpful information!
