Another solution was to build the vertical stabilizer slightly crooked from the centerline. Italy has some extreme examples, but even planes like the P-51 have it if you look closely. Have fun unseeing that.
Fantastic. The WW2 content makes a nice change, as much as I love jet combat. Thanks! Whenever I hear about the Yakovlev fighters I always remember the Yak-3 that resulted in the Luftwaffe directive "avoid combat below five thousand metres with Yakovlev fighters lacking an oil cooler intake beneath the nose". The 3 is a beautiful aircraft, very clean looking, one of my favourite WW2 aircraft. The 3P(?) with 3 x 20mm was a favourite when I played War Thunder regularly a few years back.
Maybe the only Soviet VVS fighter what I REALLY like (I hate the others, Lavochkins and so on, all kind of a shitbag). The Yak-3 was really a great looking aircraft. The P variant not played role during WWII, but it had a great firepower with the three "new" lighweight cannons. The Berezin B-20 was only 25kgs (caliber was step up from 12,7mm to 20mm but anyway it was a Berezin UB machine gun on steroids). That gun was so cheap, that they not even serviced, fixed that. If it broke, they changed it as a whole. But every parameters were equal to the ShVAK's parameters: rate of fire, external ballistics, etc.
mc-202 had wing bigger than the other A unique method of counteracting the torque and P-factor (propeller factor) generated by the engine. These aerodynamic phenomena often cause airplanes to swing on take off, sometimes uncontrollably. Castoldi made the left wing 21 cm (8 3/8 in) longer than the right wing. The larger wing created more lift which tended to roll the fighter right, opposing and thereby counteracting the torque and P-factor.
If you like the Yak-1, you'll love the Yak-7 in IL2 BoS. Yes, one wing was bigger than the other on the MC202 to offset the torque of the engine. the Romanian kites are IAR 80s.
The Yak 7 was just the converted trainer version of the yak 1 and was worse than the 1 in some ways. I believe you are talking about the upgraded Yak7B, imo the yak1b is better but the yak7b was no slouch either.
Interesting to see you greying/blacking out a couple times in this video. For some reason, I never thought these old piston fighters would be capable of pulling that many G’s. Really cool to learn a bit about military history while watching you dominate the skies. Good stuff! 💯
ALRIGHT! The Yak, my fav Soviet fighter. Like you say, pretty good low to medium altitude. But, I just like the look of it - kinda like the P-51A. Merry Christmas, G.S.
@@Liberty_or_Ded USSR was the last one to sign non-agression treaties with Hitler, former Antanta were first ones. Also they pretty much installed and helped Hitler by giving him Czechoslovakia which was huge industrial center by that time to help him build his armies. Also same was done with Poland before that, bringing and funding Hitler's best friend Pilsudski to power to attack USSR and other neighbours.
The shvak 20mm has a physically smaller shell casing and a lighter weight, lower velocity projectile compared to most of its contemporaries, but had a higher rate of fire.
I always laugh when reminded Stalin renamed a city "Stalingrad" *while* he was leader of the Soviet Union. And everyone was not just cool with it, but thought it was a point of pride. Crazy Russians.
I wouldn't say most were happy with it. Stalin was a Georgian communist revolutionary who managed to get control of the regime that took over Russia and once he did so it was difficult to oppose his actions. When communism was removed, Leningrad and Stalingrad were returned to their original names by the Russians.
If your formation was a Sturmovik escort attachment you could get rockets to support ground attack, or if lucky the ShVAK was swapped out for a 23mm VYa cannon which has twice the explosive filler of the 20mm. That would be the shredder you're looking for. Of course in Kursk era you'd want a Yak-9T with a 37mm Nudelman engine gun. It's anti-tank but apparently the pilots loved going off mission and shooting at enemy aircraft instead of ground targets at ranges of around 1km and watching them explode.
If i remember, the italian G-50 haved the left wing bigger than the other one for balancing problems but the MC-202/205 were the best dog fighers of italian air force on that time
Cool vid! I just have a question regarding these IL2 vids. Are the encounters in these videos just parts of the carrer gamemode or do you play custom missions?
So I thought of an interesting scenario. Not sure how difficult it would be to set up, but the general idea is that you are a defector pilot. You would have to slip past your former side’s air defenses and fighters hunting you and land at an air field controlled by the other side. Sort of inspired by a story I heard of a North Korean pilot that defected and landed his Mig (think it was a 21) at a US air field. All without US intelligence knowing he would defect.
The IAR 80 was considered about equal to early versions of the Hawker Hurricane. And don't you hate that one day after the engine warrant expires, it conks out?
Yes, it’s actually illegal to show in some countries so the devs remove it to be safe. Russia and Germany are examples of countries that have passed laws against showing and drawing swastikas
Yeah. There are some pretty childish laws against swastika in some countries....but not against sickle, hammer nor red star even if all of those four symbols very strongly represent and remind of tyranny, mass murder and brutal concentration camps.
British pilot James Ira jones an RAF ace said he shot every parachuting German he saw that would have landed back in German hands I tend to agree with this ideology
I always like your ww2 content. But that you weren't really attacked by any fighter at all turned it into a goose chase. Would've like to see more pressure on the yak.
Hey GS, just started playing il-2 after doing a lot of Dcs. Have a good computer but I can’t get it to play in high resolution without dropping frames like crazy. Any tips you have because your il-2 vids look just as high quality as Dcs.

P39 eastern front or p400 Guadalcanal
L39 vs aermacchi common buddy it's been a year I have been asking for this ultimate fight of two trainers
I had to check on that one wing bigger than the other thing. Yes, the left wing was longer to increase lift and counteract the engine's torque.
Its a beautiful plane. I saw one at a museum near Rome.
A brilliantly simplictly fix.
Nice I guess you know a thing or two about any aircraft’s left turning tendency

@@thefunnyguyfromtheburgerki3334 any clue what the 109 has for a fix?
18:53 The Russian pilot yelling "Suka blyat!" when his engine dies. Probably historically accurate. 😂
AHAHAHAHA i didn't notice it LMAO 🤣
@itsyayogamer3149 Me neither. Had to keep my volume too low for that because I do not live alone.
I lost it when I heard that 🤣🤣🤣
I laughed way to loud at that and my wife who is trying to sleep yelled at me lol.
I will go and check comments if anyone is also here. This is "Suka blyat!" :)))

The “suka blaet” when the engine goes off is hilarious 😂😂😂

As award for being glorious ace for Soviet Union, you were assigned a post-war job in glorious sardine tin factory near Leningrad. Cheers, comrade!

RP as a russian pilot over the eastern front, nothing to worry about comrade.

Merry Christmas brother
So glad we’re getting all this ww2 content all of a sudden!
I really appreciate that you have been doing WW2 stuff lately even though it isn't as popular as your modern stuff.
Two GS videos on the same day! My Christmas is complete!
Indeed
18:51 not even sure if the cursing is an edit or ingame. Amazing! 🤣
Man, you're on a roll today!
Always look forward to WW2 content.
The only weird part to me is that most of the aircraft sound like lawnmowers with machineguns. Very different to the jets.
@jjpeloquin That's part of the charm. Though I like the mental image of a lawnmower with machine guns lol 😆
@@ChrisLawson-np6km Today's average push lawnmowers probably have more horsepower than the typical WW-1 plane engine!

Gaijin should take note and make it so the soviet 20mm rounds don’t one tap everything while American and British 20mm just ricochet.
Yeah, there's a reason for that...
When he said "I'll flare at the end here," I was waiting for him to pop some flares...
Keep blessing my feed with the ww2 content! Love it!
Love the videos man. Its almost therapeutic
I love your videos man, Merry Christmas!
Okay, we’ve established you can kill enemies while in parachute. However, can you shred their parachute and cause them to fall?
Great video! Loving these!
Speaking of wood-built aircraft I would love to see a Mosquito video
It was the “Suka Blyat” that got me
I love how you always just casually drop some of the dopest facts ever heard like it's nothing mid fight. Had no clue the 202 had asymmetrical wings.
I would argue that the LaGG-3 was probably more akin to a Soviet analogue of the Hurricane. (Although significantly inferior in performance)
great video once again cant ever have too much ww2 content!
Love the content of this channel!

Bro if you're playing IL2, show me your best pacific carrier landing. Bonus points for silly.
If we're continuing this theme, any chance of taking the P-39 Airacobra for a spin?
I second the nomination. Wanna see how that monstrous cannon performs.

Lidija Litvjak, the 'White Rose of Stalingrad' flew the Yak-1 during that battle. The Soviets had all of the few female aces of WW2 as far as I know.
Do you play with "full fidelty"? As in are you managing cowl flaps, mixture, and prop RPM? Just curious how intense you keep the IL2 settings
Have you tried the La -5 yet?

does DCS or IL-2 have the YAK-9K with the 57mm cannon?
IL2 has several variants of the Yak, ending with the Yak9T, with the 37mm.
