    I have never seen chameleons racing about. It is amazing how quickly they can move when they need to see off a rival male!

      Actually, they only move slowly to avoid being eaten. Among lizards, they are among the most delicate and vulnerable.

    I remember Labord's chameleon. It has the shortest lifespan of any known land vertebrate. It was featured on a 3-part BBC special on Madagascar & its wildlife, narrated by David Attenborough, of course.

    The size of prey, fly, is a nice yardstick to measure how dwarf he is!
    Independent eye movement is a well-known phenomenon, but mystery is if each eye is also working at the same time. How input data is processed is of some interest. Extraordinary dwarfism! How did they do that? (Frog, too)

      It's not all chameleons, each species have different life strategies and ecologies. Common species that people keep as pets can live 10-15 years 🥰

    Fierce competition in male for mate a hallmark of chameleon, which has no effect on downsized body. Quick movement, flattening the body to make look bigger and bites, all those are hardly imaginable from somehow comical rocking locomotion. Chameleon is, chameleon does!

    3cm...I had to look that up to see just a tiny those hatchlings were! The flies they catch are almost the same size! I should look up another documentary on this creature. I wasn't ready for this one to end...sigh!

      3cm flies would be pretty scary. Common flies are more like 1cm.

    I am always amazed that animals that grew up alone can recognize what their same species are like when mating. How do they know ? By smell ? How do they know by sight when they have never even seen themselves in like a mirror ?

    A short-lived creature. Given its size, its lifespan is no wonder. 4 months x 3 generations/ year! Could be disproportionately short. Overall morphology appears mostly isometrically miniaturized except slightly larger head. The length of the tongue looks proportional, maintaining it as superb weapon like much larger kin. Nature's trick!
