Reversing the Door Swing on your GE Dryer

WARNING: Before starting any repair, always make sure that the appliance is completely disconnected from the power source by unplugging it.
Tools Needed:
Flat Head Screwdriver
Phillips Head Screwdriver
Step-by-step how-to instructions for reversing the Door Swing on a GE Dryer (model number GTDP180ED0WW)
1. Unplug the dryer and open door
2. Unscrew and remove bottom screw in each hinge
3. Hold dryer door and loosen top screws partially, do not remove
4. Carefully lift door up and slide off
5. Remove the top screws
6. Remove screws securing spacer and door latch, pop up with flat head screw driver to remove
7. Place door latch and spacer on opposite side of door, secure with screws
8. Pop out white placeholder on new hinge side and remove
9. Screw in top screws for hinges halfway
10. Slide door hinges onto the screws
11. Tighten screws and replace lower screws
12. Close the door
13. Plug in the dryer and test it out!

You did not show how to switch the strike plate in the door. That is the only reason I watched this video

My heart dryer doesn’t have the plastic caps. It appears to have metal pins on door edge opposite of the hinges.
How do i remove the strike plate and move it , as required.

I cannot budge those screws holding the door on. They are power drilled in and I am afraid to use my power drill as I might strip. This is totally unnecessary ...
Help - I got the door off but none of the screws will go in on the other side. I can screw them in just a little bit and then they won't go in any farther.
Hi Sue. Use a drill when screwing in the screws in the other side.
The openings on the other side haven’t had screws in them yet, so you may need more power to break in the screw to the opening.

This was so easy after watching the video. The owners manual has lots and lots and lots of words. But Earius made it very simple to follow. He also gave a great tip to NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS COMPLETELY. Just loosen the top screws of the hing then lift the door from the hinges. Otherwise the door will fall on your toe!
Great video! The only thing I have to add is that the white plastic place holder heads tend to snap off pretty easily on the model I reversed the door on, so anyone looking to do the same on their dryer should take it slow when removing them.

Fairly simple, yes. But I had to use a drill bit to make the new screws holes bigger. The screws initially wouldn't go into the new holes and stripping the screw heads would have been disastrous. Total job took me 20 minutes.
Idk why I was worried I was gonna mess that up or it would be complicated. I watched it video an had no problem getting it done. Thank for the video.

Thank you so much for this! I just did it, and it worked like a charm. My final screw took some work, but it finally went in without the use of a drill, and I'm drying a load of laundry now. It'll be so much easier to deal with facing the correct way for my setup. I hope this gentleman is doing well--he truly made my life easier. 💜
Hi your video was so helpful! Like someone else mentioned it ass difficult to get the screws in but I finally got it. The door closes any the switch latches but now it won't start. I don't think it's the electric source bc the light turns on..any suggestions??

Sears home service reversed my doors now the dryer won't start. Something is wrong with the latch.

I switched door exactly as you did but when I shut it...it does not come on. If I hold the button that also controls light and on button...it comes on. Any ideas?
I see the problem after reversing the door. When I shut the door the button will not push in far enough for it to come on. If I put something in front of button and shut door...then it comes on. What did I do wrong or is there a solution? JUDY
