      AJ Pickett how about Baknarakna(albino goblin tribe native to the lost level, for those not familiar)?
      XD
      I've spoken about Hammarilion, he was considered as a God by the Baknarakna in the lost levels of undermountain, in a greater campaign that included the area in a place called Maderdra(a GM special version of waterdeep that wasn't quite waterdeep...).
      I used the tribe and their witch doctor leader to find my way out of a large part of that mess, to say nothing of the beholder kin leading the intro to that module(forget the lawful good party that I led to slaughter to save my party from that intro, easily. ;P).
      They took on the Tlincallis for me when I was trapped in that section of undermountain. Needless to say, after they saved me the trouble of being picked to my bones by that army, I jumped down into the ravine after their victory to be swallowed by a froghemoth. XD
      That's where I lost the Fourth and key blade to the vorple blade puzzle I had sought. XD
      This was after losing another to the god Just, when I three the blade at the god, striking a 20 crit and like a moron, found out the god of blood was invulnerable. XD
      Should have use the black blade of disaster(unfortunately that one was lost on a 1 and I was exceedingly cautious with it.).
      Anyway, you gonna run for me? I think I we could do great thanks things in VR.
      :P
      Ofc all second Ed. ;)

      I am assuming you are not asking me to run a second edition game, also, I have a similar experience last time I one shotted a big bad boss monster with a vorpal sword.. the boss got rezzed immediately, but my moment of shocking victory shall forever stand.

      Reminds me of the time a past DM told me those words when one of my characters was turned into a kobold. The roleplay was fun at least. Especially when they were thrown into windows to unlock the doors.

    Consider any six foot step to have 1d12-7 tripwires, unless already passed through.
    Also consider including self-resetting tripwires.
    Also consider floor tiles that trigger traps when pressed, or different traps when removed.
    Also consider magic crystals attuned to trigger traps upon the thoughts: "How could this get any worse?" "Seriously, AGAIN?" "At least that's over with." and "This place has too many traps."

    • @nvfury13
      @nvfury13 6 років тому

      Kenik Kress Your magic crystal idea reminds me of one of my creations, Spell Engines. A Spell Engine is created with one to three spells in it, and they trigger given a certain condition, such as: the words “Well, now we are safe.” are spoken; a being of a race other than a certain race (or of a certain race) enters its range; a being without a certain item enters its range; a wounded being enters its range.
      Years later I laughed as I ran into something similar in Skyrim.

    I have never used Kurtulmak in my games in any major way, but I like kobold semi-pantheon nontheless - mostly because it mostly consists of demigods, so it is not that hard to involve them in lower-level endevaours. Once I had my players brave the realm of Gaknulak, kobold demigod of traps and protection, to snatch a powerful draconic artifact that BBEG blue wyrm put there to confuse those who would seek it in his lair (weird I know). Gaknulak's realm of Aknuthrak, in Gehenna, was never officially detailed to my knowledge, so I made it a large warren-city of kobolds carved in rock of Khalas and partially hanging from underneath the volcano-layer, composed entirely of traps, full of secret vaults maintained by kobold petitioners. It mostly lacked in combat, of course, but the journey there was as dangerous as the destiation itself.
    And, thank you for making videos on more obscure parts of D&D lore!

    In a Forgotten Realms trilogy [The Rage, The Rite, and The Ruin] the backstory of "Dragon's Rage" was revealed as a ritual created by the elves in secret. Even gold dragons were benevolent tyrants who ruled for thousands of years, and their word was law. The ritual turned all dragons into beasts for a time, and once stripped of their high intellect, dragons killed indiscriminately, thus ending the Dragon Kingdoms.

    Got to play as Kurtulmak Hahaha. In a divine game where the sessions were split between deity actions and their high priests. Alot of management but. Got revenge on the god of the urds and absorbed the urds in my flock. Best part was getting epic level characters to willingly choose to go after demons rather than my ascendant kobolds. Hahaha. Death mountain was my high priest's base XD

    Kobolds have a soft spot with me. I thought Urds were mostly random mutations of Kobolds, that most disliked out of a sense of jealousy, and Urds act worse due to wings, conflicting with others.
    Wondering if there is any updates I should do with what I wrote with them recently. Since info on their gods were so limited for wealth and economics, I was assuming they might just partake in dragons wanting treasure for gaining treasures, or maybe an occasional worship of dragon gods like the one of hoards, for their own hoards.

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  6 років тому

      Kobolds consider themselves to be part of the dragon species, clearly a lesser part, so yes, they worship dragon gods.

    I generally take the outcome of Asgorath's duel with Erek Hus as a defeat rather than a death.
    I roll with the idea that Zehir (Set, interestingly enough) wanted to swipe the portfolio of dragonkind after the death of its current holder, and poisoned Asgorath before the battle in an attempt to expedite the process.
    Seeing that he was outmatched and sensing the treacherous cause, Asgorath formed two portions of his power into new deities which were unaffected by Zehir's poison and thus able to bring down the King of Terror. Meanwhile, Asgorath, battered and (to at least some degree) diminished, withdrew to recover.
    This seems to settle any temporal inconsistencies, and only deviates slightly from the more traditional interpretation of the myth. Given Asgorath's rather aloof attitude, it wouldn't be too surprising if he didn't actually bother telling anyone- mortal or deity- that he had survived. This could lead to the misconception (perhaps even among some gods) that the battle had been the death of him.
    Given his nature as an elemental, it is fully possible that he could survive that amount of time without any mortal worshippers. That being the case, it could be that his interaction with Kurtulmak was his first since the Dawn War.
    Not a lorebite/perspective everyone will be interested in, but one I enjoy nonetheless.

    • @AJPickett

      Don't forget that Bahamut is one of the small group of Platinum dragons, plus he and Tiamat had other siblings.

    • @drakeford4860
      @drakeford4860 6 років тому

      AJ Pickett
      Absolutely true.
      I don't mention them here mainly because I've drawn this largely out of the folklore of Abeir's dragonborn, which specifically notes this as the birth of Bahamut and Tiamat, and credits them as being the ones to defeat Erek Hus- and seems to be the most reliable and consistent account currently available to us.
      My thought then, is that the other deities were created either sometime before or after the Dawn War. Thanks to my research into the lore of the Gold Dragons, I tend to suspect that Bahamut and Tiamat are among the younger Draconic deities- mostly due to the fact that Gold Dragons view Bahamut as the offspring of Lendys and Tamara. While I'm fairly certain this is a misconception borne from portfolio overlap, it does indicate to me that the latter pair predates the former, as otherwise they would likely be considered as either aspects of Bahamut or as his children instead.
      This would, however, make their lack of presence in text regarding the Dawn War rather odd, as one would expect them to be at least as active as Asgorath himself. That said, this is a far reach into history even for the Dragons, so it's more than a little difficult to gather definitive information on the topic.

    Nice work. I feel like every line in the script is a plot hook or a start of an awesome campaign idea.
    By the way, do you have any knowledge about the Pathfinder RPG? If so, have you ever considered doing one of their creatures in a sort of mini-series? Many of them are based on D&D monsters, but they do have some great lesser known mythological creatures as well as plenty of weird and wonderful original ideas.
    I wish you well in all of your endeavors, AJ! Keep on being awesome!

    At some point I think I'd like to make a paranoid kobold PC (because everyone bigger is out to get him and the gnomes are behind everything bad in the world) whose idea of security is to trap everything. Gunslinger: because boom.
    I want minefields, floors rigged to collapse on intruders, bombs that explode if you open doors the wrong way, oils spilling on everyone and then glorious fire to cleanse the intruders and so on. Then you go pick fights, retreat to your secured location, and snicker as the baddies suffer the most lethal episode of D&D "home alone edition" I can conceive of.
    It'd be good DM training for making the most challenging and evil traps ever. Like you disarm the decently well-hidden trap on the fortified locked front door. Then you open it only to ponder, for your last two seconds of life, “who the hell puts so many bombs above a fortified and trapped the door!?” as you trigger the second trap by opening the door that was never meant to be opened. Because that's how you trap people. You make them think they've outsmarted you and spring the real trap on them!
    I’d work those alchemy and tinkering tools hard…

    In my campaigns, Kobolds were originally doglike goblinoids. They gained "dragon blood" through ancient dragon worship and rituals, which changed them only cosmetically and spawned the Urds. Some tribes still have fur. They are the ultimate b-list enemies. Magical weapons that are especially effective against dragons, reptiles, and-or goblinoids are all bolstered against Kobolds. Unlike reptiles, they are warm-blooded. Also, most dragons are offended when anyone remotely acknowledges they are dragon-kin. In a meeting place of the outer planes, when gods are forced to sit down and talk, most of the other gods insult the Kobold gods as being mere myths made real by delusional mortals ascending to the divine through mortal belief and believing their own lies. Yeah, I have clashing narratives of reality with the gods... I was inspired by mythology when I was a teen and first got into AD&D. "Which story is real?" I played with them though, the players will never really know unless they become the top gods of many pantheons... never, in short. So, to them, the answer is "What does your character believe? That one is true." I love spicing my fantasy games with reality confusion, keeps it interesting and lets me (as a DM) have a bit more freedom to make interesting stories for my players to play in.

    haha, A temple or dungeon dedicated to the God of Traps reminds me of that (underrated) movie series Final Destination. In that series of movies death is basically pissed about some people not dying when they were supposed to, so the whole movie he's trying to "balance the scales" but the pesky people like living too much. Through horrible (and sometimes hilarious) series of events he picks off the survivors one by one until only some (leaving it open for sequels) are left alive at the end.
    In the movies the survivors are beaten, poked and prodded into paranoia over every little sound and motion since anything (literally anything) could be the death of them. One person walks outside of an office building (maybe a hospital... It's been awhile) with another of the characters. They talk over some sort of plan to survive and contact the other people who are marked for death. One person walks a bit away from the other (never split the party) to make a phone call. While the other waits, a child also outside the hospital-office playfully scares a flock of pigeons. They take wing into the sky but not before running into and releasing the lever on nearby construction equipment. It seems the "hospoffice" was replacing a window on the (double or triple digit) floor. The lever the birds flew past released the raising mechanism completely and a giant 10x10 pain of glass falls on one of the movie characters...
    It doesn't cut the person in two, like reality would have it. No, it doesn't even break! It does however fall directly on top of the person, ACME anvil style, turning the person into what looks like a human coffee table... Such great movies

      How many final destination movies were there in the end? Did they ever stop making them?

      haha, I don't know. I think they (sadly) stopped at 5. Those movies are so great for movie nights at home with a girlfriend x'D "Really?" will be uttered several times a movie. I love the possibility that Death enjoys the board game Mouse Trap

      The Standing Stone is a large, imposing stone obelisk that serves as a symbol of unity between the elves of Cormanthyr and the humans of the Dalelands. More specifically, the monument celebrates the alliance that grew out of the agreement known as the Dales Compact. It also marks the beginning of the use of Dale reckoning (DR) calendar, which has gained widespread use throughout Faerûn. The Standing Stone is located just south of Myth Drannor within the forest of Cormanthor, at the junction between Rauthauvyr's Road and the Moonsea Ride, about halfway between Blackfeather Bridge and Hillsfar (you can buy replicas of it throughout the region as a sovenier)

      @Ian Robertson You're overestimating the vast majority of the gods. What you described was some sort of ancient greater diety. Numerous gods have been killed by numerous beings, including mortals.
      Empyreans are literal demigods, and Tiamat's Avatar is a CR 30. There are canonical mortals more powerful than that.

    Got anything on the Visage?
    I faced one in the second edition module that included the first arch lich... Damnit, can't remember the name it's an expansion on a dead first edition city... Bah, it has a 2 part name. XD
    Myth dranor!
    Thank you brain! Lol.
    Yeah, there is a Visage there that made me derail that whole module at about lvl 12.
    XD
    Yeah, I ended up planar after that moment, thanks to an antimagic lake it lived on, and my confidence in a ring of water walking.
    Let's just say, I lost millions and committed suicide (unsuccessfully) by jumping into a Vortex Stone I found in the temple of the gods of Lahnkmar, a tornado that lead to the elemental plane of air, and a situation that depriver my Urban ranger friend 2 wishes(after her he turned me into a developmentally challenged little girl) and a strained relationship between he and his djinn friend after an amount of time where I set sail in a ship made of cheese and bread mortar, and the findings therein upon the elemental plain of air(Ruins of an armory, IE: ruined shields, broken walls/etc). LOL
    Let's just say I never failed to make a lore role again after that. It's probably why I ever did t lose everything when I put on that neo-umberhulk helmet I mentioned in the other videos comment section.
    Live and learn, y'all.
    Hehehe!

    • @briancorvello3620
      @briancorvello3620 6 років тому +2

      The closest thing they have to a god is Laogzed, a giant abomination from the Abyss that most other gods regard as little but a divine garbage disposal. It's lair is on the Rotting Plain (181st Layer of the Abyss) . It cares very little about its worshippers, and will very likely die of neglect and lack of worship in relatively short time.

    • @linguisticallyoversight8685
      @linguisticallyoversight8685 6 років тому

      But look at the troglodyte in first edition 2nd edition 3rd Edition and compare that to what we got in 4th and 5th edition..... it's not even the same creature

    I played a game with some people and they had Colbolds that were hyena men.
    That's a cool idea and all but why not just give them a different name rather than replacing an established race?
    Also they should be in a biome that makes sense, grasslands or Savanna rather than temperate mountains.
    Or you could have them there as an invasive species.
    The irony is that I've written some fantasy Africa inspired stuff for Warhammer, fleashing out the Southlands that Games Workshop has sadly neglected in my opinion.
