I am an artist and Love hearing other artists talk about their work. It is hard for me to understand why it is boring to you. You are getting a new look at the painting from the artists perspective. I find that enriching.
As an Artist/Art Therapist, I enjoyed hearing his process. I can form my own ideas but I wish more artists would be a bit more willing (or able) to discuss their work. I get that the viewer takes what they will from a finished piece, but if you have a body of work and concepts you are exploring, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with discussing it if someone asks. It depends on your motivations. If you want to communicate and express through your art, certainly you can let it speak for itself, but I think the level of criticism on this thread has much more to do with frustration and perhaps resentment seeing another artist’s work being valued. And, you don’t have to like it, but no, it’s not “easy” to consistently create large scale works and if you think abstract work itself is easy, I suggest you try it. Many artists won’t have a clue what’s going on in their own work but self-reflection and exploring what you’ve created is not a bad practice.

I love Sacha Jafri’s work. It is intense and prolific. It depicts the beauty, horror snd chaos that we experience in our world. His philanthropy and how much money he’s raised for others who are suffering are what I envy -I wish I could give that much (how would the world improve?)The people who make hateful comments are keeping themselves at a low level snd are focusing on the wrong details.

Im an artist. I hateeeeee listening to artists come up with elaborate responses for their pieces. Paintings. Especially abstracts come from being in the moment and developing a painting by watching it evolve. This guy is just trying to sound intelligent. Hes sooooo deep. Give me a break.

If he didn’t say what he said on this video we wouldn’t know any of the history of the pieces. like I love the story of the African kids getting some joy from painting that, during such horrible times that’s a good thing. You should go do something dope like saving refugees lives, paint something than please tell people about it why not.
I absolutely agree with you! He’s basically telling you what to feel, which is absurd! Also, there’s too much going on in the rooms, too much distraction, too much displaying of wealth! His ego is indeed a huge turn off and ultimately a detriment to a potential artistic experience. The art doesn’t match the marketing, in the end.

I'm general very open to art, i love abstract, i love expessionistic, i love colors and forms and lines. I think his art looks superficially pleasing, however i think it's 100% kitch and his serious explanation just compounds that idea.
I love the idea of the painting as organic, alive and breathing and interacting - and I totally agree that to depict true life is to depict the soul of the Earth - its all like a bridge between abstract expressionism and magic realism

There are know more art movements to come or go, it's all already been done just like fashion, everything is being recycled, the old becomes the new and in vogue for a while and then becomes the old again. it's already been done.
art is such a vast creative expression done in many ways, I think observing art and seeing how it speaks to the individual observer is a better way to critic an artwork, personally I don't think art should be defined by words, just like reality can't be defined by words, I do dig he loose style and I applaud anyone that loves painting large pieces and getting lost in their art, but I would limit the words spoken and let people give it their own meaning

The explanation is meaningful to the artist - the work is exceptional. Love the color. composition, textures. The explanation lets you know that it's not decorative art- but fine art.
Re 'Let the work do the talking' I think it depends on which philosophy you take about enlarging on the painting or not. To me it's like saying .... don't paint that area green when it should be blue ... who's to say!! I would love to hear more of what Sacha Jafri's has to say mainly because I think his art work is talented, diverse and he talked about mystical beings which have been an experience with my art for the past twelve months.

I can get behind most abstract painter's process and paint an aweful lot too, but tbh his thought process is kinda weak: "I wanted to express A so I did B" without really ever getting to the point of how or why the two ideas converge. Then My last gripe with him. 12 works per 2 year is REALLY taking his time. I've been painting for a bit more than 8 years and I lost track of how many projects I did so that would be weird for a painter of this supposed caliber to only have produced 108 paintings in that time frame. I'm not hating on the guy though I'm happy for him. I'm just always a bit weirded out when I see the kind of artist that float on top while some way lesser known works are so much more thought provoking. IMO so are you saying no new art movements or style will be created? My criticism of his style was more a reply to the beginning of the video calling him “one of the worlds most important artists”

He has a lot of important and well known people collecting his art, you know, real art connoisseur, people in the know, not people like you who get your art from Target. There are know more art movements to come or go, it's all already been done just like fashion, everything is being recycled, the old becomes the new and in vogue for a while and then becomes the old again. it's already been done.
art is such a vast creative expression done in many ways, I think observing art and seeing how it speaks to the individual observer is a better way to critic an artwork, personally I don't think art should be defined by words, just like reality can't be defined by words, I do dig he loose style and I applaud anyone that loves painting large pieces and getting lost in their art, but I would limit the words spoken and let people give it their own meaning

To the makers of this video, you did yourselves a disservice by in detail showing this guy, who has zero problems dissecting his art away, more than the actual paintings. The bad side of the art world is people convincing rich people that something is meaningful; let the art and ideas speak for themselves more. They were all pretty good abstract art, stop with the nonsense already. When they do a special interview of your work then you can criticize someone else's work. It's not easy coming up with those paintings.
IMO I can appreciate abstract art ,but the majority of it is pretty awful because people think you can do anything ,there are good reasons why a painting works or doesn’t ,all the flowery words in the world can’t change a confused mess .

Sacha Jafri abstract art is no more and no less than what is consider good to great abstract art, it all depends on who the art industry wants to promote as the next big thing, and his being a non Caucasian could also play a big reason why you don't view his work as worthy of praise as those who are collecting his work view it.
The explanation is meaningful to the artist - the work is exceptional. Love the color. composition, textures. The explanation lets you know that it's not decorative art- but fine art.

Re 'Let the work do the talking' I think it depends on which philosophy you take about enlarging on the painting or not. To me it's like saying .... don't paint that area green when it should be blue ... who's to say!! I would love to hear more of what Sacha Jafri's has to say mainly because I think his art work is talented, diverse and he talked about mystical beings which have been an experience with my art for the past twelve months.

Sometimes these abstract painters come up with really interesting designs and compositions with a lot of rhythm and flow. I don't really care if they mean something.

As an art student I find that he’s definitely not the worst of the most important living artists. I also am a massive art nerd and artist myself.
I can get behind most abstract painter's process and paint an aweful lot too, but tbh his thought process is kinda weak:
"I wanted to express A so I did B" without really ever getting to the point of how or why the two ideas converge.
Then My last gripe with him. 12 works per 2 year is REALLY taking his time.
I've been painting for a bit more than 8 years and I lost track of how many projects I did so that would be weird for a painter of this supposed caliber to only have produced 108 paintings in that time frame.
I'm not hating on the guy though I'm happy for him. I'm just always a bit weirded out when I see the kind of artist that float on top while some way lesser known works are so much more thought provoking. I hate the comparison but the money aspect forces me to

I like the way he displays color, but it's a bit pedantic to give such high meanings to paintings that don't stand for them.
Self absorbed. I always find painters/artists that have to talk about their work as interesting as an hour long lecture on gluing a PVC pipe. He certainly does make sure he looks the part of an artist. Calculated. For those of us who have no choice but to wear torn jeans it's an insult. As for his painting -- ehhh (very nasal sound to that ehhh.) Anyway, I hope he enjoys his caviar and oysters.

Like I always say if a painting, or piece of art doesn't speak for itself you can't explain it with words. Also, this guy insults his audience by telling them what they see. At any rate I think he believes the sycophants who tell him he's a genius, or something. He robs art of what it is -- an expression of the artist who doesn't have to apologize for it, explain it, or give a sh&t what the audience thinks.

You know it's bad artwork when the artist has to create stories for each piece... this guy is just a bullshit artist in the end. As an artist myself if people can't enjoy the work on its own terms then I failed with that piece, I don't need some elaborate short story to try and prop it up.
