Popper Hopper

The Hopper on its own is a lethal pattern but sometimes the fish like a little bit of movement. The popper hopper is designed to cause a disturbance in the surface film that will alert any hungry Trout in the area. I often fish this in a team with this fly on the top dropper and normal Hoppers in behind. A quick strip can result in huge bow waves and more often than not the fish will take the trailing flies.

Absolutely love this fly Lindsay, I particularly like the idea of putting the legs on the bottom, it looks very natural. Can't wait to try it out.

Hi Lindsay, I trust you are well. Personally I love all types of surface film poppers and hoppers plus foam backed beetles and bugs …. somehow I have accumulated rather a lot of them but they do catch fish … atb Jim

I like the look of this. If I could make those legs work on a #14 wide gape, I would use it as a midge pattern, but either way it should be effective! Thanks so much Lindsay!

Nice pattern, I must ask. I dont have this round foam. Could i somehow try to make a post of the square part, maybe double it over?
