Could you contact me,I need some help about medical retirement that should've received but never given the opportunity. I had some serious illness while serving in the Army (82nd AIRBORNE DIVISION)
Civdiv, I paused the video when you asked the question about sucking it up and doing the 20 they don’t give you a chance I was medical retired 17 years. I asked the same question I begged them in tears and they told me no you’re done. Unpause the video and see what he says. I’m 100% PNT too, but I’m unable to work. But I was able to get 100% Social Security disability. That is hard to get. But I called my congressman and my senators about the Richard star act and it needs to be passed because it’s not fair. Glory to GOD!
Thanks for the opportunity to tell some of my story Clay, and thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do for the veteran community! God bless you and your family brother.
Not sure if you mentioned this (after writing this comment) but since you injured your back completing a jump, you should look into CRSC if you haven’t already. You may be eligible for extra compensation that will get you some of that extra “crdp”-like money. I believe it would be classified as a simulation of war.
I’m in the same boat. Medical Retiree disabled veteran of 16 yrs 2 months. Even if the Maj Richard Star Act makes it into law, I still would not meet requirements to qualify for DOD retirement pay. Although my disabilities are service connected, they are not combat related in nature with a path of higher burden of proof vs combat related proof. The physical, emotional, mental, identity, and spiritual has been dealt irreparable permanent damage. I must battle every single day just to function at a basic level and fight for my own life.
Dude, thank you for coming to the show and sharing. If the Major Richard Star Act is passed, this would be huge news for you and your family, and 1000s of others. - Clay
Jeez, it's amazing how many Vets were seriously injured and endeared insanely demanding and stressful situations the average person could never understand.
That's why they call it the "Green Machine". It will chew you up and spit you out. Was exposed to months of depleted uranium, VX gas in Iraq, broke my back in Alaska, no one told me, was given "ranger candy" motrin 800, sent back to duty, undeployable, felt abandonded. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Super proud to have serve the USA. Thank you for serving and sacrificing. I am currently 90% service related, partly thanks for these videos!
Yep I feel u. 18yrs and medical retired. Forced out the door. Had to fight for proper Army rating. They tried 20% on army side and 100% on VA. A lot of Soldiers don’t even fight and get shot out the door ripped off and unaware.
Thank you for covering this. I’ve been following the Star Act since it was first introduced. It would be a game changer for my family if it ever passes.
Tomorrow morning at 10am I have another showcasing what the VFW has to say to Congress - stay tuned. Members have early access to scheduled posts. - Clay
Great Chat.... Also had 14 years with orders to italy but the year was 1993 and a E/6 had to have surgery 3 weeks after discharge got 10% in 2012 help without the internet help never showed up.Being on welfare just 3 years after discharge was a hard pill to swallow.
Your story makes me physically ill. Please don't give up. We should write and call someone about your story. Let us know how you are. God bless you and your fight.
Transitioning is always a rough ride but for those who were many years deep, are injured and medically retired…completely get shafted. The Major Richard Star Act would change that. - Clay
I was fortunate. They medically retired me, and I was able to win my final appeal and was put back on via Limited Assignment Status. I retire next year. It’s still a struggle though.
I I was boarded out in 1986 after 9 Years. I Had a DOD rating of 30% and received a medical severance leu of retirement. Waited until 2022 to submit a claim to the VA. I was granted 70% from the VA and am now paying back the severance I received before I can receive the VA disability money. If the Major Richard Start act is approved, will it include not having to pay back medical severance when medically retired?
If your percentage is 30% or higher for the DoD- you should be medically retired, not medically separated (unless something changed from 1986 to when I medically retired in 2010). MRSA only impacts medically retired veterans who sustained their injuries while in combat. It's bogus that we can't have both our DoD retirement/severance and VA disability. But if I were you- I would seriously look into if you're entitled to medical retirement.
@@Riverchicky I think the rules have changed. I was given a choice or Retired Pay at 30% or the severance. Back then the cash seemed like a better choice. I made the mistake not understanding how much I would have received every month. I thought it would have been 30% of my base pay. Not I understand there was a formula. :(
I received about 18K, If I chose the pension I would have been collecting a total of more than200 K over the last 38 years. My dumb ass didn't know better and of course the Navy was no help in the decision making. Plus, other benefits that I sacrificed. Live and Learn
People struggle to contextualize the impact of injuries that aren’t visible to the naked eye. And it’s terrible because even docs get the “you look fine to me” attitude.
Bro please do a video about veterans who were forced to accept SILT, CHAPTER 10, OR CHAPTER 4 and given OTH discharges after coming back from combat deployments and diagnosed with PTSD or MST only to have their discharges upgraded as a result of the HAGEL AND KURTA MEMOS and still have the VA SAY THEIR SERVICE WAS NOT HONORABLE FOR VA PURPOSES. THIS ISSUE NEEDS ATTENTION. MANY VETERANS HAVE WAITED YEARS TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE BENEFITS AND ARE STILL BEING DENIED!! There are THOUSANDS of veterans dealing with this issue! How many would still potentially be here if they were able to just have their service recognized and not walk around with a scarlet letter on their service.
Just how much can a BCNR change? I understand character of discharge, missing ribbons and medals, and most people talk about minor changes. But what about major changes? Just how much can a person get changed?
How aware are Veterans who ETS before 2018 that they were left behind with the 2018 BRS legislation. All civilian government employees 5 years of work receive guaranteed monetary benefit at age 62. Veterans who served before 2018, less than 20 years receive nothing.
Most likely a numbers game. Gov employee retires at 62 and gets paid for what? 10-15 years? Military can retire as early as 37 (enter at 17yo and do 20 years) and then they get paid for 30-35 years. NOT saying this is right of them to do. Just saying it is probably a financial decision.
@@GovmntLacky actually a recruitment incentive. Those serving after 2018 will get a minimum guaranteed monetary benefit at age 60 for 2 years or more service. The more years, and rank at ETS dictates the amount.
written by a think tank, not policy, not OPM for any alphabet agency, just an opinion piece, what is going great for veterans now in Project 24? or Project 23?
@@rodwinters6926 A myopic viewpoint. From Heritage's own website: "Most recently, the Trump administration relied heavily on Heritage’s “Mandate” for policy guidance, embracing nearly two-thirds of Heritage’s proposals within just one year in office."
Please go look up TERA. It is a 15 year early retirement IF you are going to be medically retired so you can be considered retired at 15 (not medically) and still get VA disability.
I am very well informed on 15+ however, that does not account for those below 15. Medically retired and medically discharged are 2 different things. Those who are medically retired should absolutely rate both. - Clay
TERA doesn’t apply to all members with 15+ years of service. It’s a force shaping mechanism and not every branch utilizes it. I was medically retired at 17yrs and did not qualify for TERA.
@@TheCivDiv As you mentioned @4:54 you said "Did you ever think to suck it up for 6 more years?" In reality, he would have only needed to slow roll the medical process less than a year to get to 15 years and would be getting both DOD retirement pay and VA disability pay under TERA. The proof is right there you did not know what TERA was. When you put stuff out, you should know 100% what you are talking about and not propagate rumors like the Lcpl underground. You did not defend your answer above when you said it's 15+ years when the video clearly shows the lack of knowledge in your question. You and VAinfotap and here "it's 20 years or nothing" when that is a lie due to ignorance on the subject coming from SME's. I have posted many videos from you and shared them with others because I thought you were credible, however, this one particular matter that I have very familiar with as I am going through the process is showing me that you do not know as much as you are leading on to know and pretending as you do. I made a comment on your hip video that was also partially incorrect and again put out bad gouge. You of all people should know if you don't know the answer to something, you don't speak outside of your lane, don't fire for effect if you "think" you heard the right grid devil. I have to say, I am a bit disappointed.
