It amazed me how well those base civics are VERY similar to some cars I driven which are more "Modren" like a 2013 Mazda2. Nearly identical specs that is the same way being a lightweight, ecobeater that is slow but give it a few mods and some open twisty roads and you will find that it's very fun to drive and bang the gears around getting the most out of it! These cars make me appreciate older vehicles on the road that can last for decades over brand new flashy Truck/SUV's on the road with too many electronics and will never go off-roading in it's life forever stuck as a shitty soccer-family mobile that can't drive worth a fuck.
These older Hondas are so fun to drive even though they are slow stock they are like little street legal go karts, one of the most favorite cars ive ever owned was a 1994 Accord Ex even though it was a beater
I had this one as well as my CRX. You talk about heavy steering, but far from it if you ever drove pre 76 American vehicles. I learned to drive in a 74 Chevy Van 10, with no power steering, and 3 on the tree.
Steering is heavy? I drove a depowered steering on 1990 acura integra for 21 years. Thats light weight baby. I also have a 1991 crx si and the first thing i notice was how light the steering was. 😂
@enriquealvarez4702 ☠️. I was waiting for this comment, lol. It wasn't undrivably heavy, but you can tell it has no power steering. Props to you for dallying a 90s Integra for 20 years!
i feel like you did a really poor job driving the car saying it was hard to drive and it was "sensitive and needs a good driver" and expected way to much from it as well as the clutch being low (where it should be lol) i think your trying to drive it like a brand new car its not a new car it does not do everything for you the car does not drive itself. also complaining about torque at 3.5k rpm its a 1.6L what did you expect? any 1.6 new or old would expect a downshift at that RPM for some actual real acceleration in the gear you were in. also the steering rack complaints don't make any sense lol never heard someone complain about a 1988-1991 manual steering rack in my life lol. also i don't mean to come off rude but your manual driving skills could use some work your shifting was very clunky and hesitant when you were trying to accelerate hard and even some slower driving i saw the same skill issues. also at the end you compare it to a Miata saying the Miata was purposes built and the Si was just something people drove but that couldn't be further from the truth the Si is a completely different car compared to a 88-91 DX or Base model with completely different gear ratios bigger brakes and an added rear sway bar and minor suspension improvements in every part. if you drove a DX/Base with the 90/70hp engines and terrible suspension you would understand what im trying to say
@beauyo4722 I appreciate the feedback! To give some insight into your concerns: I wouldn't call them complaints rather than observations. The car has heavier steering, and the car doesn't have a lot of torque. I actually enjoyed the steering feedback. I'm just taking the car in as it is. Maybe this is a purpose built car, but it feels more refined than a Miata. It's generally more insulated and more usable as a car to do tasks in. As far as my manual driving goes, I shifted it slower to be more precise and nicer to the car. I wasn't very comfortable driving it any quicker with the amount of seat time I had in the car.
@03focussvt943 Fair. It was my first time driving an old Honda in a while. I did much better with the CRX we drove after it. Something about the rev drop and the gear spacing threw me off on this car. Slow shifting I usually do because it isn't my own car. I don't like to bang around other people's transmissions.
88-91 Civics over Everything.
