    All good points in the comment field but like everything else you typically get what you pay for. It’s not just how frequently the truck is in the shop but how efficient and well trained the technicians are. I would rather pay $250.00 dollars an hour for two hours than $150.00 for 4 hours. Most dealer groups have private label parts that can significantly reduce the cost of a bumper etc….

    Why not contrast the USA with Canadian dealers as we all know currently know that for every $ a Canadian spends in the USA it's like spending $1.37 so that dealer charging $250 US Funds in texas the Canadian trucker is going to be payin $342 an hour. Thanks for this I've decided not to buy a truck again after all. Travel safe everyone.

    On my Restoration 1971 SeaGrave Fire engine. The basic service is so easy to do yourself. The two fuel filter are under at truck frame, very easy access without a lift. The oil filter same thing under engine on frame. The only difference is the oil is a ( sock) filter type. The air filter are up top on passenger side, anyone can change them if they can spin a wing nut.
    The 8V-71 takes 7 gallons of oil to refill.
    Even with a newer series DD very easy to service yourself. I see now why the high end RV custom builds with a class #8 semi on front use a F. Liner truck chassis on front.

    Ronen, you didn’t factor in the most important part……which truck brand spends the most time in the shop. If Volvo has the lowest hourly rate but the highest amount of time in the shop and KW has the highest hourly rate but the lowest amount of time in the shop, the higher hourly rate from KW would then be acceptable. Personally I don’t care about any of the trucks you mentioned. They are all crappy fleet trucks and I would not own one. I drive a Freightliner Coronado SD122 (looks like the Classic) and hate Freighliner for killing them off. Accordingly, my next truck may have to be a Pete.

  • @KevinDR1987
    @KevinDR1987 5 місяців тому +2

    You need to call more than just 1 shop per state per brand and come up with an average. I have a KW and there are 4 KW dealers within an hour of where I live. I've only gotten work done at 2 of them and both charge different rates. Youngstown, OH charges $215 or $225/h (don't remember exactly) but they get the truck in to diagnose within an hour or 2. Canton, OH only charged $165/h but didn't diagnose until 24-48 hours after I dropped the truck off.
    I haven't dealt with the other 2 in the area yet because they both had longer wait times.
    Same with your parts prices. Different dealers charge different prices. I've had to replace my bumper and payed 2k for the KW factory 2 piece part. Or I can go get a 1 piece chrome bumper from a chrome shop for $500-$700

  • @ThaAlmightyWill
    @ThaAlmightyWill 5 місяців тому +1

    I would need to know the frequency of breakdown on average per truck before I could make that decision. Freightliner might be cheaper. But if it's always in the shop then it will turn out to be more expensive over time. Same for Volvo and most definitely for Kenworth.

    I work at a DAF dealership on the outskirts of paris (the european counterpart to Kenworth and Peterbilt), and our labour rate is 115€ an hour (128.46 usd), which I (and all my colleagues who are part of the workshop) already thought was alot, but clearly we aren`t doing too bad on prices compared to the US. In terms of parts prices, I unfortunately don`t really know any exact prices off the top of my head, but if I recall a full filter kit that includes every single filter costs in the 500-600€ range, depending on the exact engine, and whether it`s a regular or extended service interval truck (bigger filters); a headlight will be in the general ballpark of 1000€ (give or take maybe 200€, depending on model, model year and spec) and so will a full bumper (with the caveat that all body parts usually come unpainted and are often just white plastic, that tends to yellow with age of not painted, and require extra costs to get the parts painted to match the vehicle), a full 750l fuel tank for a new generation truck costs just over 2900€ (I know because I had to quote one yesterday), a NOx sensor runs about 600-700€ (depending on engine and model year), the fuel and DEF sending units each run in the 400-500€ range, an engine computer is just under 1600€, a full mirror assembly (including the arm, mirrors, motors, and cladding ) is also around 500€ (or maybe more on the new gen trucks, but we`ve really only sold or replaced a few over the last few years, so I don`t really know how much more they cost), a starter is also close to 1000€, a key (which, much like a normal car key, has integrated lock/unlock and light test buttons and the springloaded mechanism to fold and unfold the key, instead of being just a key with a seperate fob) is I think like 230€, but it comes pre cut to the ignition from the factory (unless the ignition has been replaced), and a set of pads ranges from about 130ish € (if memory serves, though I might be thinking of a discounted price, tbh) for a set of TRP pads, to over 300€ for the genuine DAF pads
    I don`t inow if I listed all the same componants as in the video for comparison, but I think I got a good amount.
    Also, a turbo for an MX13 costs around 7k (sometimes more like 6.5k, sometimes more) and a full DOC (the muffler box thing that has the DPF inside as well as all the catalytics) costs like 13k (though it does come with the after-treatment ECU and all the sensors and wiring harness for that price, making it plug and play). One thing to note about these parts prices, is that based on feedback we`ve gotten from customers who buy parts all around europe, apparantly parts in France are the most expensive out of all the european countries , or atleast compared to neighbouring countries lile Belgium, Italy or Spain, to where we`ve had clients who claimed it cheaper to drive to Belgium to buy a part, than to buy it in the area.
    Oh, and all the prices I`ve listed are also before a 20% VAT, whcih the client has does have to pay, bit their company can than gets back from the government, or something (some accounting/ tax stuff that I don`t understand)

    Trucking is shit show now. I own 3 trucks average close to $2.10 a mile driving 3500 miles a week. I of course manipulate the clock by couple of hours everyday, though I edit it and make it real. I average around $7k a week per truck out of it I pay driver $1900 to the driver and another $1600 for fuel. That’s 50% right there. With insurance, ELD, load board shit like that I average around $2000 a week per truck. I don’t have any lease to pay so I’m doing ok just about ok to stay in business. I had major breakdown issues and needed an engine replacement as well as a new d3f system. I paid a 10k towing fee to get my truck back to South Carolina to make sure I wasn't being scammed. Long story short, I replaced both. I own an old new 2016 international and wouldn't charge a thing. So the maintenance is basically covered with fuel savings. It has a bigger interior and much smoother ride compared to frieghtshakers. Of course, the hourly rate for the mechanic is actually a charge for pro rata use of multi-million $ facility, tools, equipment plus the mechanic and other staff. That said, the Texas Kenworth with a $500 minimum to "diagnose!" And the $5000+ front "bumper," actually, plastic bumper facing, which PACCAR very much seems to be intentionally making to break. Probably lots of choice words other than dishonest bastards come to mind.

      But Ronan, changing the subject only slightly (and yes, I have commented on this before), you comment often on truck payments being in the vicinity of US$ 3K/month, and such as this putting a real strain on the viability of the business. One wonders what you and your viewers would think of US$4311.16 / month (51,733.93/year) with zero equity accrual for carrier or for individual lease operator, rather with Peterbilt-PACCAR Lease owning the residual value after four years ($206,935.68 in lease payments)? How about tossing in the gloss that they expect to get a "like new" vehicle back at turn in?
      Sound like a good deal?
      Decent deal?
      Acceptable deal?
      The worst deal in trucking?
