  • In this video I have a look at a customers 2017 GMC Canyon with the big 3.6. It had a customer complaint of ABS light on. I looked at it for them and determined the magnet on the bearing was M.I.A. and I also suggested replacing the front hose due to rust.

      It's about reduced interfacial tension.
      WD-40 is likely using a non-ionic surfactant similar to what is used in shampoo to emulsify water and allow the flow of the WD-40 spray to displace the emulsified water.
      If you're interested go read the lab reports from when it was invented, it's long, but explains everything.

      @kevinsmyth364 Рік тому

      It does displace water, however immersing an object coated with wd40 in water will eventually remove the wd40 as it is only adsorbed onto to the surface, not chemically bonded or absorbed.

    Watching this, Eric, reminds me of the days I ran a part time garage (after hours, man alone) with no formal training. Your work ethic is so much like mine was then. My motto was to make it easy for the next guy to undo something that may be rust welded in place. A fair amount of rust here in Cape Town. Also, do the right thing right the first time. 20 years of that and not one comeback...

    Just had a flashback of when I worked at a Chrysler dealership in the 1980s. I worked parts for the shop and a seasoned mechanic asked me to help bleed the brakes on a New Yorker. Customer had shop privilege and was watching like a hawk. Mechanic told him to move back so he wouldn't get sprayed by the fluid but he insisted on staying put. The mechanic just shook his head and told me pump on the pedal "hard". Customer got the ultimate Dot 3 brake fluid golden shower. Thanks for the memory trigger Eric.

    I spent 35 years as an ASE Certified Master Technician with a CA Smog License , (being a mechanic is how I made my living all those years). I worked for 15 years at an independent shop specializing in Mazda's Honda's & Toyotas (1976 to 1990). I spent the next 20 years working for a city in the Bay Area of California. There, we serviced and repaired everything the city owned, turf equipment, fire trucks, police vehicles, 5 and 10 yard dump trucks, tanker trucks, light and medium duty trucks, street sweepers, the bookmobile, electric vehicles and cars. I honestly do not know if I would have chosen that trade if we had the rust and corrosion issues I see in your videos. That kind of work poses enough challenge but when you add rust and corrosion to that degree you have so much more to deal with.
    These trucks i see on your channel that are 10 years old and the body and frames are rusted through we never ever see any of that. In the 80's I had a 1950 Ford F1 that lived its entire life in CA and there was no rust on it al all. We just don't have that issue with our vehicles. Even now in retirement and living in the Sierra Mountains where is snows we do not see that. I am blown away by the rust in your part of the country.
    All the best to you, hang in there retirement comes sooner than you think, stay safe!

    Back in the day when WD-40 was a NASA product and not yet been bought out by several companies since… That's why now I call it "watered down 40". Because it is a silicone based product it is a lubricant, not a penetrant such as PB blaster or Kroil oil which are the two of the best penetrates. If you have time to let something soak then Seafoams "Creep" is also a very good penetrant.

    😅I’m learning everything you know. Plus the old ear plug trick it’s a good one. Wish I could figure how to keep dirt out of my eyes 👀

    I use WD for everything. Sometimes I even use it as the manufacturer intended.

    Also super impressed about the one man torquing of the axle nut I always put the caliper and such back on and use a screw driver in one of the rotor vents to hold it in place!

    Thanks for the clarification regarding the fact you don't get ongoing WD sponsorship. I have a natural mistrust of corporate interference, it's what completely destroyed automotive channels on TV. If an author doesn't mention it, I assume they are on the take. Then they go into the Scotty Kilmer column of shills.

    You can clean the earplug with WD-40 to re-use it 👍
