Terrific video! Man, Tommjy Warrington had to be the best bassist around, to be able to keep Buddy satisfied with tempos, etc. He stays with Buddy and sounds great! I've been listening to Buddy gor over 63 years. I met and talked with him several times at gigs he played around Southern California. He was always congenial, eager to sign his autograph, and to answer questions.

Buddy has the same killer (force) look on his face that he had at Northsea Holland July ‘78. This brings me back to when I saw them live so many times. I can’t believe Buddy is gone now almost 4 decades.
Great find, only seen Willowcrest & Mellow tone before from that concert, great to see new content even with the sound problems buddy still gives amazing performance. What a band that was his Killer force and Machine Wow! Thanks for the upload❤
Incredible footage. Buddy is a treasure! That band is quite amazing too…the afros, tee shirts and love handles 😅 add a special 70’s je ne saids quoi!😅😅
he had chops like that-gets off the BR band, puts the horn in the case and goes and gets a career in computer tech...WTH??? He hasn't touched the horn since '79
@@chasefreak I played bunch of shows with Chuck in Dallas up through '84 when I moved to LA. He did put the horn down at some point, though, and go into computers.
evidently, there was a problem with the sound set up which was why buddy's reaction to it was the way it was. a great find, though.do you have any more footage of this concert?where was this?
Tx for mentioning mark jj he was at niu when I was a student there as well very nice guy though now known as an engineer doing work for mc donalds awhile back the last time I ran into mark he was in a backup band for former buckinghams singer dennis tufano up here. still a very nice guy this was prior to my chase date up here in 2011 I said wow you should speak with dj about doing my date he said his chops were not even close at that point I have a few buddy things with marky in the band when I see him in b's trumpet section my heart warms

I was thinking 79 to early 80 this would have been one of buddys bands when I saw br for the first time. I don't think it's 1980 now bc if it were ernie vantrease would been on piano swim closer to78 79
To have feedback issues like that with a big band... They must have had it blisteringly loud out front. Hope they got what they deserved from Buddy. You look at live videos from London or Copenhagen and they're always well mixed and totally together sounding as far back as the '50s and '60s. Interesting, huh? At the beginning of the second chart, willowcrest, Buddy is definitely in pissed mode. By the end of the chart, the band seems to have cheered him up a bit. They're playing their butts off.
The way Buddy Rich drove the band on "Machine" is just so powerful! His drumming made the music so exciting to listen to and brought up the level of the music to a new high. This is a very tight Big Band with amazing soloist who because of Buddy, had to give 100% to the music. Buddy was always about the music first! This is what I learned the most from Buddy with my Big Band is to hire the best musicians and give 100% to the music all the time. I`m one of the very few drummers who has a Big Band to play this type of music for the people today. Here is a link you can check out of my Ken Loomer Big Band trying to keep this music alive and having musicians who love playing exciting swinging arrangements ua-cam.com/video/MM-OXmNhzO0/v-deo.html Thanks so much for posting this video of the great Buddy Rich Big Band and his amazing musicians.
This, Band most be high on oats and proteins.. Playing this tight. Actually I heard they had to eat Matzos and The Eucharist before the show..Then got Blessed and Amens..

Saw the Buddy Rich Big Band in 1977, 1978 and 1986. All great concerts :D
Awesome! I've only seen a couple of tunes from this set, so it's great to hear and see the whole thing. Nice!

Good Lord! The end of “Machine” the last track is immense! Fire!

Great post, many thanks to you for sharing!
Tighter then a crabs ass !!! 🤣 The more that time passes , the more I apprieciate this incredible band !!!
Looks like BR at Montreux Jazz Festival 1978 or ‘79
I didn’t know there was a full video for this one!!! Sounds raw and I love it!! Thank you very much for sharing this!!
Absolute solid gold treasure here. With all its production issues, really choice playing going on.
What JJ said...Chuck Schmidt killin' it!

Christmas came early!
And who was that 2nd Tenor player? Killer sound, burning time feel, great solo!
Buddy always had smokin’ bands whether he realized it or not!
Gary Pribek
Thanks much. Great player!
Steve Marcus killing it, as always !
Damn, this band is fire.
THE BUS TAPES!
Look in buddy’s face during willow crest says” I know I’m the best “
Any funk fans in here ? Steve Arrington from Slave was the drummer in an Ohio lounge act called “The Murphys “ w Tom Warrington on keyboards .
Along with Buddy, Chuck Schmidt and Steve Marcus anyone know who else is in this band?
Mark Ohlsen asst. lead trumpet

I’m guessing late 70s as Buddy is playing Ludwig Drums and we have a young Steve Marcus
1978, the year I joined the band.

Sax abuse! That section had some chops!
The onevand only Tom Warrington on bass. You now lives in new zealand.
One of the best ever !
My guess - 15 July 1978 Montreux Jazz Festival.
Definitely July 1978 Montreux, the 15th could be the date... I'd have to look for an old program to confirm.
Mike McGovern

Was that Tom Harrell?
John Marshall
John Marshall
I thought Barry kiener had joined the band at this point?
I would say he just left
@@karalujo Kiener died and left the band on 25. Mai 1986
I’m sure the sound was fine in the house except for the occasional feedback this seems just like a typical bad soundboard recording.

Buddy does not look happy.
Not his tempo
Typical scowling at the band.
