You were using the P teleport a lot, and everybody was holding back because you were testing their blocking with the pokes. When they step back, they get behind you on the P teleport. Gotta switch it up with the K teleport every once in a while. Also mix up Yoga Fires and Yoga Arches. EX Yoga Arch is a good control tool with its three ranges and the bouncing
I did his combo trial, labbed with him for hours, went to ranked, had no idea what to do when someone is actually fighting back and i can’t even get out of silver with him even though i have multiple characters in plat. I won’t give up though because he is very fun, but really hard to play.
Fellow Dhalsim main here, my best advice is to wait for jumps a lot. Most people get too impatient vs him and kill themselves getting hit by your back MP or HP
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been maining dhalsim and loving it but it’s been hard to find good guides or anything for him because nobody is playing him! I definitely need to make more use of teleport and levitate after watching this! SF6 is my first ever fighting game and he’s my first character so I’m losing like 9 games out of 10 but having fun doing it 😆
I was having a similar problem as far as guides and stuff. I found a really good channel called GenoMingo and he has some great dhalsim tech videos and just recently uploaded a really awesome guide!
Dhalsim definitely feels bad - he can react to jump and use an anti-air, then they can just hit his anti-air with an aerial and it doesn't even trade, dhalsim just loses. All his pokes are susceptible to this, and his priority is ass - if 2 moves collides dhalsim's won't connect and he'll just get countered. It forces sim to use fireballs for everything due to that risk, but those are very slow.
ngl, I'm struggling with him. Hard to adjust to the new mechanics as Sim. Just so many ways for an opponent to get in. 'Couple tweaks can really help him out with regard to his normals, though. That said, it's cool to see all the new moves they jammed into his kit from past games.
These videos have been awesome. Hope you do a similar one like this with the other characters. Cool that you came out Plat5 straight away! Shows your game knowledge is based, even if you aren’t 100% with the character. Super entertaining!
The reason you don't see Dhalsim much is because Dhalsim is mostly in the highest ranks. Noobs always pick safe and easy characters, but Dhalsim is one of the most powerful characters if you can play him.
The top key in all fighting games to win is patience, execution, and spacing. Dhalsim seems to do be the character that those fundamentals are far more strict than most of the other fighters.
In the last match the teleport was very risky option, the oponent didnt have to guees by jus walking backwards, Dalsim always appeared un front of Ryu, maybe that teleport could be a better option against charge charater that stays crouching more time
Sim is going to be top tier like he was in 5, top players just haven't labbed the sauce yet, or if they have then they are waiting to show it in tournament
watching some top level dhalsim, all I've seen is using his unique attacks into yoga fire into level 1 super. That's really about it. He pokes, floats, and does really basic combos. It really is just the fundamentals. This is probably just because it's so early on. His back heavy punch (the two fist low attack) is really popular for special canceling. I just did some combo trials and watched crimson.
The character is methodical and technical, yes, but I think a part of people not playing Sim is that he isn't aging well. No, I don't mean because of his white beard. Few new players want to dedicate their life to solo main weirdly-stereotyped stretchy Indian man. On a similar note, I think they should introduce a Bollywood-style action indian dude. A mustacheoed terror that can launch you across the room with his pinky.
If the second ryu is actually StackBradford he's a UGM? Warlord? Akuma/Ken from SFV, trusting the rankings in the first week or two is a terrible idea for assuming relative skill level. You can see it in some of the stuff he does. Ducks your SA1 and throw punishes it. Jab checks raw teleport. Walks under teleport -> j. hp to attempt to whiff punish your landing frames with st. lp.
I've been maining Sim since launch and he has so many little interactions to memorize on top of his teleport being a lot easier to deal with. That being said his air fireball and float are mean as ever and his damage is actually pretty nice.
Long post incoming, but Im super happy you made a video featuring Dhalsim! The thing that is really complicated about him is his moveset. He is almost like controlling two different characters. You have your ranged tool kit, and then your up close (back normals) tool kit. This includes his anti air normals (as they are all back normals as well). You have to juggle these while a match is going on, where one misinput could make you very minus in front of the opponent, or lead to a very big whiff - which is pretty much death in this game. In addiiton to that, your longer ranged pokes (5mp, 5mk, 5hp) are not special cancellable. Therefore, they are quite weak to Drive Impact without proper spacing / timing / fireball coverage. Then you also have to work on spacing for your slides and dive kicks - as they can be either incredibly unsafe, safe, or even potentially PLUS dependent on spacing. Know when and how to teleport and utilize your unique movement options from these types of attacks is key. This isn't even going into float (which is AMAZING when used properly). Im quite new to SF, but I tend to like complicated / unique characters in fighting games (I play venom, kum haehyun in +r / xrd and zato in strive) - so I've been a bit addicted to learning dhalsim - even if the ranked experience can be a bit frustrating when learning a character like this. There are a distinct lack of guides on how to play him - so maybe if i it higher diamond / master I'll try making one.
John I’m so glad to see you get the enjoyment you were anticipating out of sf6, it’s great for us viewers too! But something that’s always perplexed me about you is how you always manage to either pick a Zoner or a Grappler in any game you play (sometimes both😉) and yettttttt, you managed to play dbfz as long as you did 😂❤
Definitely keep playing him. I have seen players getting a lot of value out of the up fireball, throwing it out regularly like Sf5 Feng. It seems to break up the opponent’s game plan of trying to get in all the time.
Lily, Dhalsim and Blanka are all characters I've had trouble finding online. I have fought them all before, but they are few and far between for me when roaming the battle hub. Maybe ranked will be different! Edit: I would LOVE to see you play Dhalsim more!!! You're the only one playing him after all lmao
I noticed a lot of people were able to just back up to defeat the behind teleport... they'd take a few steps and you're teleport put you right in front of them, facing the wrong way. His TP might be a lot weaker than initially thought, or only useful as an escape now.
he's just harder JP imo, plus Drive Impact and Drive Rush make getting in on zoners easier than ever. Look at 1:24 how you throw out crouching HP when she's too far away and minus from the fireball for anything to connect from her end as a punish, but because she got to press L1, Dhalsim's keep-away fails and would've led to losing the round if Marisa remembered how to convert into a super combo there
I went against a Dhalsim in my losers bracket in our regional this past weekend. I was super annoyed! There was no way I could have gotten the matchup experience, so it felt like my run was stolen. I guess the answer is to put the hours into learning to play him myself.
I’m a Sim main, and you did great. You can anti-air with b+hp, drive rush into b+mp, xx OD yoga flame, xx into level 1 mp super. That will condition them not to jump.
Dhalsim is a strong character in each and very Street Fighter iteration . It is just that he needs a huge amount of skill and excellent understanding of the game and matchups. He is also a high learning curve character which is why most people do not want to invest their time putting up with. The dedication and commitment to being at least decently good in this character is a lot of hard work and grind. His movement mobility is also slow and hard to control which players also need to adapt. Which is why he is the most difficult character to use in every Street Fighter game
Jim come over to the Sim army we'd love to have you! Two pieces of tech for aspiring yoga masters: 1. When Jim is getting Yoga flame as an ender, you can OD that move knocking them into the air and hitting them with level 1 Yoga Inferno with Heavy Punch. Does about 33% all together 2. I have been cleaning up from instant teleporting behind and mashing light punch. If you get it real close to the ground you can get air light punch, standing light punch, crouching light punch, into OD fireball. That all combos without counter hit.
to add on to #2, they show in the combo trials that air heavy kick after a teleport can usually keep them in hitstun until you land and link into another move. It's pretty sick
I sense a distinct lack of EX lobbed yoga fire here. That move is bananas... EX fireball priority means that it kills any non-super projectile it touches, it stays around for days and tracks the opponent if they switch sides on it. It's like you put it out in the world and it wins neutral for you... Ok, maybe I'm overselling it, but it's really really good.
I'm all for some more Dhalsim. He's a character I'd like to pick up at some point, but I'm not sure I'll be ready to commit enough to actually git gud.
I would be interested but I thinkthe rushdown tactics in this game are strong and lots of people play that strategy... this makes it tough going for a Dhalsim main.. unless you are really strong with him. I think no-one wants to get bodied continuously by ken, Luke or Ryu.
His D.lp in air cancels into stance, fireball, and teleport. hit around chest and above you teleport always at the perfect height to land a hp to be plus enough to connect hk or hp.
this was the most fun sf6 vid to watch so far. love the game, best fighting game in ages. good to see some dhalsim. and who doesnt wanna root for a cool chill guy like jmcrofts.
I’m so bad at fighting games I no longer buy them, but I enjoy your content. What I’ve gathered from watching other players play Dhalsim on UA-cam, using teleport to back away from the opponent is key.
his point blank defense is really bad but his drive reversal feels really strong not because it's better than anyone else's but when you knock them full screen with frame advantage it's such a great situation for him. probably the same for JP. plus it's easy to build back your meter from that position with limbs, and Dhalsim gets overcapped on meter pretty easily in neutral so you're always looking for ways to spend it
I know, that making a special DI for Daslim would be impractical or unfair However, if his DI used his stretchy limbs and was a back dash that left a limb/hit box in place.

Dhalsim cant be fireball trapped so just be patient vs shoto. you got to save that good anti air. and never underestimate mummy or drill spear feet at point blank if they are on your nuts. dont go so high up minihop to drill almost instant. mini hop , dive. or throw yoga fire and then hop dive. very hard to deal with.
I'd love to see you play more Dhalsim
“I can’t let you get close” Sim is Chael Sonnens kinda guy 🤗
I noticed a lot of people were able to just back up to defeat the behind teleport... they'd take a few steps and you're teleport put you right in front of them, facing the wrong way. His TP might be a lot weaker than initially thought, or only useful as an escape now.
Yes! You make Dhalsim look fun to play. A lot of the characters are fun to play fortunately!
Ken
he's just harder JP imo, plus Drive Impact and Drive Rush make getting in on zoners easier than ever.
4:22 the way he was shocked that his opponent perfect blocked that I mean it makes sense
“In the background. Making the feet clap” juri mains sweating nervously rn 💀
I need Q/G. Need me a big command grab combo world buff man. So far have platinum Big lady, Ken and Dee Jay. This game is so accessible and fun.
"Anyone can beat a diamond 1"
Me who tries to get in gold :'(
holy shit Dhalsim is in sf6!
Two pieces of tech for aspiring yoga masters:
1. When Jim is getting Yoga flame as an ender, you can OD that move knocking them into the air and hitting them with level 1 Yoga Inferno with Heavy Punch. Does about 33% all together
More Dhalsim!
Dhalsim is 200% not being played which is the justification for a ton of people's tier lists lol
“The neutral jump and now I’m cooked!”
Your commentary is hilarious 🤣
I'm all for some more Dhalsim. He's a character I'd like to pick up at some point, but I'm not sure I'll be ready to commit enough to actually git gud.
Damn, back in the day when we were stacking quarters on the arcade at the neighborhood food mart, everybody was playing Dhalsim
Thank you for the Sim love, I find it very funny that you're better than me at sim despite me maining him lmfao
I just want Vega back
Ew, why? Leave Shadaloo in 5
@@beau1654 I like his mask
@@beau1654 i dont really care about the lore, vega is sick
All 10 Vega fans are crying rn
@@thespookyest I can dig that lol
This was really fun to watch, I'd love to see more Sim content
Dhalsim: Without enlightenment, you are lost in darkness.
I would be interested but I thinkthe rushdown tactics in this game are strong and lots of people play that strategy... this makes it tough going for a Dhalsim main.. unless you are really strong with him. I think no-one wants to get bodied continuously by ken, Luke or Ryu.
I think the toughest thing when I play him is how certain single moves just hand an opening to your opponent and his slow fall.
'Look like a leprechaun to me', you said that right as I was thinking it lol
That mudamudamuda super is siiiick
His D.lp in air cancels into stance, fireball, and teleport. hit around chest and above you teleport always at the perfect height to land a hp to be plus enough to connect hk or hp.
this was the most fun sf6 vid to watch so far. love the game, best fighting game in ages. good to see some dhalsim. and who doesnt wanna root for a cool chill guy like jmcrofts.
Your day one Sim is nice!🤘🏽 we need more Sim from you JM!🤙🏽
Gotta use that Drive, Crofts.
I recently got destroyed by one. You can't imagine the pop off when I finally got a round
Big up to Mister Crimson.
I’m so bad at fighting games I no longer buy them, but I enjoy your content. What I’ve gathered from watching other players play Dhalsim on UA-cam, using teleport to back away from the opponent is key.
his point blank defense is really bad but his drive reversal feels really strong not because it's better than anyone else's but when you knock them full screen with frame advantage it's such a great situation for him. probably the same for JP. plus it's easy to build back your meter from that position with limbs, and Dhalsim gets overcapped on meter pretty easily in neutral so you're always looking for ways to spend it
I have never ever played dhalsim in n literally any other street fighter ever and out of nowhere he is my main
I know, that making a special DI for Daslim would be impractical or unfair
However, if his DI used his stretchy limbs and was a back dash that left a limb/hit box in place.
9:47 "any scrub can beat a diamond one Ryu."
> doesn't realize It's stackbradford
15:24 that’s why I never go for dp into super, I’m not good enough to land it most of the time lol I just go for donkey kick instead
Glad to see you seen the fun in Sim crofts
thanks to you I decided to get sf6 and start trying to learn sf for real this time, been having a good time, thanks to ken getting the light tatsu shoryu combo akuma has I’ve been relying on it since its all I’m consistent at thanks to how long I practiced akuma combos without actually playing people
Akuma should have been on the roster
@@LeonJohnson-yi3hg he will be, they probably didnt have the time to fill the roster off the bat
@@littlemisseevee2309 they should’ve. This is 2023
@@LeonJohnson-yi3hg this is 2023, but thanks to deadlines and gamers its hard for a lot of companies to just delay a game if its not a totally complete package, especially if there is access to things like updates and dlc
@@littlemisseevee2309 no I don’t blame the gamers. I blame the fgc slobbering over everything and letting companies shaft the consumers over and over again.
Your last opponent was a fellow UA-camr. Nice video and plz do more dhalsim :)
I'd love for you to give a good 'everyman' view of playing Dhalsim to get a better idea of how good he is/how much is just people failing knowledge checks. I still think Dhalsim is undertuned but I might just be a casual scrub.
The system mechanics are out to get him. Add on slow action out of his teleports and he is noticeably weaker than sf5.
I don't have SF6 but he's all still very much the same stuff. Unless you start being (can get) air parried .... like you can just chill. like you siad be patient.
14:20 that was somitaniously brutal and ugly and beautiful. gnarly gritty ass ryu combo.
