We have entered an age where it's made obvious "rules for thee, and rules for me" .. and it's becoming normalized.
Which rules have been broken

In 5 years time there will be far more important issues which decide if labour win or lose than who bought his suits in 2024.

Perhaps if Starmer was to "actually" break any rules. Or actually do anything that was provably wrong and not listen to the media generated garbage that you live your life by.

Both my wife and I are disabled, my wife much more severely than I. She has carers who visit her daily, giving me a break since I'm on call to look after her seven nghts a week, 365 nights a year. My point is that if I were to offer these wonderful carers a gift, their professional code of ethics would require them to refuse it.
This is simply to avoid even the merest hint of a possibility of carers manipulating vulnerable people or taking advantage of their extreme dependency. In other words it avoids even the suspicion.
It should be absolutely no different for politicians of whatever stripe - indeed the entire Whip system was created in order to stop individual members getting backhanders to vote one way or the other, the practice being endemic at the time. It is this principled stance that I personally expect a Labour government to take - and I will be disappointed if they don't going forward.
My son-in-law is a care worker for vulnerable adults, and you're absolutely correct about the rules/regulations he has to abide by. He was recently disciplined for accepting a family bag of Maltesers from his client. The gift was given in appreciation for my son-in-law going above and beyond his contracted (without pay) hours. He ended up with a warning after his client told another care worker about the gift, and why the gift had been given. He was proud that *his* care worker had gone beyond his duty and wanted to show his appreciation.

I'm starting to believe that James thinks Keir is the modern messiah - and even with rose tinted glasses on, it's unfathomable to him that Starmer can do any wrong. It is quite remarkable the lengths James will go to, to defend him - even when it is total hypocrisy.
I think he knows he isn’t infallible, but like the rest of us we have to have hope and if he f’s us over we will all be livid for not believing our instincts

Keir said he should shake up politics then his wife took a donation to buy clothes. James said maybe she only had " 4 dresses". I'm sure Keir can buy his wife a few outfits when he's a multi millionaire. James would have shamed a tory leader for doing the same. Total hypocrisy

My issue is that if I take any gifts above £30 I'd get in trouble at work. Bribery is Bribery... for me I completely am holding them to a higher standard, there have been years of abuse, and really I wanted the corruption to stop and thought they would stop it. That said its far far better than it was.

It's better than it was but if you don't have the checks and balances and don't put the fire out early the politicians will keep on testing the boundaries because they're looking around at others and seeing it's ok, so then doing it themselves, and it will just keep gradually getting worse.
I am listening to this.. unfortunately, it's not out of entertainment. The negative diatribe is bitter and biased, its not balanced journalism. It's past bordering on anything more than an agenda, I listen if only for the simple fact that e is quite simply becoming exceptionally divisive on views that are no longer relevant.
Regurgitating conservatives past indiscretions whilst applauding recent labour highlights.

Worked in the NHS for 15 years, we could not accept gifts other than chocolates or other edible things that were for the whole wars team and we.could not have second jobs, we'd have been too tired to do them.anyway.
Compare and contrast with Farridge.
Listened to about 7 minutes today and that was all that I could muster. Absolutely insufferable drivel from O’Brien, well done !

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "neither".
The media are making a spectacle of themselves. A Starmer in a teacup.
When my son was 4 or 5 years old we just got home from shopping and he revealed to me a lolipop that he had pinched from the newsagents.
I did not nake a huge fuss about it but i did talk very seriously (like a pre-school carer admonishes appropriately for that age) that he had done something very wrong. Also, i told him that i was shocked and dissapointed... but i thanked him for telling me the truth and i insisted that we make everything better right away by returning to the shop to apologise.
He looked teary but relieved when i told him we can right his wrong. We walked to the shop, i asked him to approach the lady at the till and by his side, i helped him to apologise for stealing and the lady was VERY kind, thanked him for being honest and said that she wasn't angry.
When we got home i gave him a hug and he was totally fine. Went off to play.
I told his dad (who we didn't live with) and he was aghast. He accused me of publicly shaming him and likely damaging his self-esteem for something trivial. He said he wouldnt have bothered and just let him have the lolipop.
I was disgusted by his attitude, as a 5 year old who is allowed to be a petty thief - rewarded even - will only think they can do it again and as they get older they could steal more expensive items that would actually get them into huge trouble.
Thank you James for reminding me of this moment from 8 years ago and giving me validation that i made the right decision that day.
No wonder you no longer live with the Dad.

Do we know if the parents of the boy that got away from getting bonked, did something else too? My parents would have made me clean up streets or a park without a judge doing a thing and to be true, they have made me stock shelf’s for a local small store as a 7year old for taking a pack of gums. Another thing, it’s an important message to parents, to deal with their kids in an orderly manner.
A solution would be to have a social worker take over for the worse parent and do their job before a child or even teen goes to the justice system. So first offenders and second ones get that social worker for a week and only after that full force of the justice system.
The highlight of James's day is getting his Daily Mail, usually with the print still wet.
Exposing himself as the prat that he always was, at least he generates a laugh.

My lifelong labour voting/campaigning best friend recently told me his favourite programme is GBNews and I was horrified. I do love your programme, but I rarely get anything else on social media than left leaning stuff….My friend rightly said, he wanted to see whether the views expressed on right wing tv were as ridiculous as we think. His answer? „It’s a Sitcom“…

I wish JOB would give people a chance to talk. I really wanted to listen to the last individual in the 1st phone-in. Anyway, the 2nd topic....the decision made with regards to the 14 year old was wrong. Surely, something isn't quite right with him if he had gone to the scene of a riot. What always make me smile, especially about salaries, and the kerfuffle regarding the Prime Ministers salary along with his aides salary has so many with their proverbial knickers in a twist. These salary levels are ANNUAL. Those with the proverbial are probably quite happy paying to see someone who has NO EFFECT on their lives by kicking/heading a bag of wind players on £500,000 plus per WEEK.
Getting cross about the clothes means you are being ignorant and if it wasn't the clothes any other slight imperfection you would find unacceptable. Rules based system should be simple, if isn't in the rules, then there is nothing wrong, just push to add more rules.
You don't get angry at an employee if they followed an archaic procedure in your company and caused an issue unless you are an unreasonable person.
