The paint color on this rolling art is too perfect. And the owner's respect for the original owner and his family is impressive. This is a winner!

The Canadian version of the 59 Plymouth Fury is the 59 Plodge Viscount (I called it a Plodge since it has a 59 Dodge Cornet front end on a 59 Plymouth Fury body).

Gorgeous machine. I remember back in the '70's and '80's when the only Fury's that received attention were the '56-'58 models. Now you look at the later one's and see them as works of art. On a personal note, I cannot look at '59 Plymouth and not think of the classic movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"! Does anyone else recall the great chase scene with the cabs? My favorite movie of all time.

Back during my hippy days, I tooled around in a 1959 Savoy--the bargain basement model, with a flat-six (so smooth!), and three on the tree. It was beautiful, thanks to someone before me, painting it a "Seafoam Green"--that looked blue to me!...I installed a powerful--for the time (mid-70s) 100 watt stereo with Jensen Speakers. I would pull up at a light, and just blare out my favorite Hendrix tunes!..Lots of disturbed stares from those "straight" folks in their newer cars!...that large car had no frills--no power brakes, no power steering, etc. I was a stronger man, back in those days!..lol

Cool Plymouth. One thing I have noticed over many years is that the Chrysler Corperation seemed to have some of the wildest interiors back in those days. :) It would be considered gawdy today, but I think it gos so well with the fins and all the chrome and stainless trim and accents that were just plastered all over the cars of those days. I've always been a Chevy guy, but the Chrysler/Mopars have drawn me in for as long as I can remember because they were just different. Thank you again for sharing Lou. Take care. Edit: That plaque from the previous owner's Son is just icing on the cake for this one. Very cool to have it back with the car where it belongs.

Awesome Mopar! That's a classic! This 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury looks like something your buddy Randy Guyer would own to have in his massive collection. That 318 engine sounds healthy, and the interior looks great, with the exception to the head liner. As with any Mopar in that era, it has the dashboard mounted rear view mirror. The Bronze exterior paint job looks great as well. Those old Mopars are so cool! Another classic gem Lou! 👍👍

¡Excelente video Lou, y saludos!

One of my "cool" cousins had an all-black '59 Sport Fury with a 361 4-bbl V8 "Golden Commando"(you gotta love the names they used for car lines, trim, engines & transmissions back then) & swivel front bucket seats. She married an Air Force jet pilot in '62 and drove the Fury from Detroit to Edwards AFB in California & back a few times. The first girl I knew that had a need for speed. Great times.

Beautiful car. My dad wrenched on and drove his friend's '59 Sport Fury a number of times at Lions Drag Strip in the mid sixties. It had a 1964 426 Max Wedge in it to run in B/MP (NHRA) and C/HR F.1 (AHRA). My dad drove it to four wins in six times out in the heads up money bracket (and several class wins) at Lions Drag Strip in the summer of 1965. The car originally came with a 361. In 1966 the car owner dropped in a 480" Hemi with a clutchflite transmission to run in A/MP (NHRA).

Stunning example of a rare '59, even more rarely seen in this beautiful Bronze Metallic. Plymouth's unusual fabric offering on these '59-only Sport Furies is a standout, with its nubby fabric color-keyed to their exterior paint colors. Dan's freshly installed interior looks wonderful.
And I think the swivel seats were standard on only two of Chrysler's offerings for '59 - the Sport Fury featured here and the Chrysler 300-E - and optional on all Chrysler's other offerings including the Imperial. Looking closely at the swivel seat seen here, you'll see the bench-seat seat frame that passes under the fixed center section. Chrysler built so few bucket seat interiors that it didn't offer individual left-side/right-side seat tracks on any of its '59-'61 swivel seat cars.
    Thanks for the video!

When I was a kid in the early 1960's, my grandpa had a four-door '59 Plymouth Belvedere in a colour similar to the Fury shown here. My parents used it as their wedding car in 1960 (I wasn't around yet but I've seen the photos) and we took it on our first family trip over the border (or "across the line" as my mom used to say) to the USA back in about '65 maybe. At that time, my parents owned a British car and I thought the Plymouth was a spaceship compared to that dowdy little Morris Oxford that sat in our driveway.

    funny 318 story,,,
I used to stop by a local Wheels And Deals years ago (gone now).
Sometimes something cool like the '66 7 litre Galaxie (a fave) or a black '73 or so Challenger with a 318.
I dig it and some guy asks for the keys. Fires it up and red lines it, looking for a miss. Nope.
    He buys it.
About a month later, i'm at a local Winston shop (gone too) with my '72 Chev Step Side (yes, gone ;(
and here comes the dude with the Challenger, screaming !
    no, the 318 ain't just a grocery getter !

Seems like 1959 was a special year for Plymouth and many other makes. The 60 fury was the addition of tinsel and a more sculped front quarter panne. By 62 on the other hand the fins were gone and the whole thing was getting that rocket ship look.😊

It's awesome to see a Story where the owner has had the car for a long time and has lavished love and attention on it. I would have liked to have heard more about his web site and maybe one or two people, of interest, that contacted him. I don't have one of these cars but if I did I would have wanted to get his web site information.
The video work was excellent on this Story.

That’s a sweet ride. My uncle had one he bought new. I don’t think it was sport model I remember it having the trunk lid like this one it was a beige or tan color and the grill up front was gold in color. I don’t remember much more about it that was too long ago. But thank you so much for sharing these jewels with us.

For a 'low price leader', PLYMOUTH made some epic cars.
Gramma traded her 1954 New Yorker Newport for a 1958 Fury..
    I've always admired the 1959.

Yeah Lou, I love how people actually LOVED and TOOK CARE of their cars back in the good days. Unlike today where we basically just 'put up' with a vehicle because they're really isn't much to look at anyway but just to use it for transportation and that's all. So sad. So let's keep our thoughts on the good days of yesteryear!

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  Рік тому

Yeah lonnyjaw, You're right. Buying a car was a big deal and you valued the car you purchased. Most vehicles today are transportation only. Good news! You're subscribed to the right UA-cam Channel to take a look back at the cars you enjoy :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou

These swoopy, rare Mopars of that era are so rare, because in most parts of the country, Chrysler products in particular would rust rather quickly...more so than the other big car companies during that time frame. so sad, because Chrysler really was so innovative in style terms, from the later 50s and into the early 70s. And their larger engine offerings were just so ahead of the others, for a few years....413, 383, 426, 340, etc. What a line-up!
