gotta love the "aristocratic, master-minding bad guy" character; especially in bond films. This and 4your eyes only are my two favourite 007 movies. all the new J.B. films are a blur, yet I remember the plot to moonraker & have understood it since age 10,clarity of narrative is a good thing. I understood starwars in 1977 as a 7year old boy, yet could not follow "The Phantom Menace" as a 30-something yuppie who could work out a 15% tip in my head on any bill, use words like "Altruistic" in most conversations and correct people saying x-presso when they meant "Espresso".
I wonder if EON had been able to use Blofeld in 'TSWLM' and 'Moonraker', would the same actor have appeared in both, or would the pattern of changing the casting have continued as previously. Would Lonsdale have been cast in 'Moonraker' as Blofeld anyway, or would Jurgens have re-appeared? Does it make Blofeld's/Spectre's schemes seem more preposterous to have the same actor re-appear in the next film with another destroy the world just to re-build it super plan?
I think it's pretty obvious that both Spectre and Blofeld were dead in the Roger Moore Bond era. Although we never see Blofeld die in Diamonds Are Forever the oil rig explodes with him still trapped in his escape submersible. The idea of world domination which was Spectre's goal had been done to death and Bond therefore began dealing with villains with their own grandiose plans. By the time Stromberg and Drax were introduced they literally had no intention at all holding the world hostage or making themselves richer, they were literally genocidal megalomaniacs which wanted to destroy the world and create a perfect world from their own undersea/space stations. Blofeld and Spectre never had such plans. Extortion rackets were their business and play out the superpowers against each other so that they could take over control of the world. EON productions cleverly killed off "Blofeld" (never specifically named) in For Your Eyes Only by giving him the most hilarious death in the Bond franchise. It was a clear message from the producers saying:"Blofeld? We don't need him. This is the ending we'll give him."
@@McLarenMercedes You do realize that EON lost the rights to Blofeld for decades, correct ? Blofeld and SPECTRE were supposed to return in The Spy Who Loved Me.
@@andrewhillis9544 The Cold War was at its peak during the 1960s and the filmmakers wanted to avoid tension with the Soviet Union. So they used SPECTRE as Bond's arch-nemesis instead of SMERSH, and changed all SMERSH members to either SPECTRE members (Dr. No, Rosa Klebb, eventually Le Chiffre) or independent criminals (Goldfinger, Mr. Big). But we still see SMERSH to some extent in From Russia With Love, Casino Royale (1967), and The Living Daylights. Besides, the real SMERSH was already defunct when the Bond films were being made (and even while the novels were being written), so it would've made these movies both very dated and historically inaccurate.
@@Bauglir100 Thanks Jonathan that's answered that one and I have just realised that SMERSH is also an acronym for Smert Scpionam which in English means Death To Spies and we see this when Timothy Dalton's Bond opens a letter with that written on it in the Bond film The Living Daylights. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

RIP Michael Lonsdale.

Pretty epic speech.

Yeah fittingly Drax of the novel version was a nazi.
They need to make more bonds like this
I listened closely to this information
When the boss reveals the vision of the companies projected future post covid...
A motivational speech from Drax to his employees. Although I'm guessing after dinner speaking is something he'll probably be avoiding.
Whenever I hear this speech, I always imagine Graeme Garden following it with "And now... A Walk In The Black Forest!"
Id go with Mr. Goldfingers diabological plan.
Hitler in space basically
It didn’t take long for life on The Ark to go south.
