Wow! Thank you so much for all of the explanations of Vocaloid music! Also, thank you for being kind in your comments. This is brand new territory for me so thank you for your patience. I’ve taken down all of the recommendations and will get to as many as I can! Thanks again everyone!
Sheena Ringo is often considered one of the best Japanese female vocalist around the turn of the century and Ado as named her as one of her influences when creating her singing style. After this cover was posted Sheena was asked what she thought of Ado and her cover. She replied to the affect of if Ado was active during her time as a vocalist she would have quit to write music for her. A few month later she wrote Missing for Ado to sing. Kinda poetic.
This song is not vocaloid, it is a song from the late 90's, written and performed by Japanese rock legend Shiina Ringo (Singer, composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist). Ado is a fan of hers, and made this cover of it, in fact, it is Ado's raw voice. They know each other, Shiina Ringo is the author of some of Ado's songs.
Vocaloid by definition is a singing voice synthesizer software product (Hatsune Miku e.g.). So essentially a digital non-human voice in a way. Ado started as what they call an "utaite" (an internet cover singer) but is very much a singer (real voice) not vocaloid. :)
People is giving you a confusing description calling Ado a "vocaloid singer". Vocaloid is a computer program for synthesizing human singing voices. When you hear it you definitely can differentiate it from a real human voice. If you interested, most famous vocaloid is Hatsune Miku. "She" even have an avatar that represents program persona. I think people call Ado a "vocaloid singer" because she covering a lot of vocaloid songs very well. And vocaloid songs is very hard for human to sing because of insane pitch jumps that computer program is allowing to synthesize. So Ado is like a human-vocaloid.
The main advantage of vocaloid is that music composers can quickly bang out a track and put some synthetic vocals on it, then other people who like the song can sing a 'cover', ie put their voice on it. Ado started out by singing covers of vocaloid songs.
I think this is largely because many people are saying that vocaloid is a music genre. And whenever there is a cover of a song with vocaloid vocals, some people still refer to the cover as a vocaloid song, which associates Ado with vocaloid for anyone who reads it. And whenever a producer who often writes vocaloid songs writes a song with real vocals, there are people who claim it is still a "vocaloid song" regardless of not having any vocaloid vocals, because it was written by a "vocaloid producer". So there are people who basically claim almost all of her songs are "vocaloid songs" because they are either covers of songs with vocaloid vocals, or written by producers who often use vocaloid vocals in their songs. This obviously leads people to the misunderstanding that "if all her songs are vocaloid songs, she is a vocaloid". In a similar way, it is very confusing when people define Ado as an utaite - a cover artist. Sure, she started out by only doing covers, but is now far more known for her original songs. People who love utaites are trying to bring that niche to spotlight by defining her as such rather than an artist in general. In my opinion, they are actually disrespecting her by making it look like that is all she is, when in reality she does so much more.
It is a cover on Sheena Ringo`s song - another japanese singer. Ado was inspired by her presentation style If you want know more about vocaloids you must to read about Hatsune Miku - first vocaloid. If briefly, it is software that can generate vocal, in the firsts (from 2002y) it was deterministic way to generate, in last version bacame to use AI in this process. Advantage of that generated voice - it can change many octaves at one time, but in most cases it less emotional. People who use vocaloid in their music named "Vocaloid producer" (like SatapanP or Kikuo). You already listen Ado cover on Kikuo`s "Aishite", maybe time to listen the original? SatapanP has another approach to music, you must to listen his "Yababaina". It may seem at first as full random song, but it have structure, I like it but not from first trial Ado has joint song with Hatsune Miku, it released in october and it looks pretty cool in live. It was he dream since she start as Utaite. She was crying in live
what vocaloid is basically, ill use Hatsune miku as an example. They use a real persons voice (Saki Fujita for Miku) and create voice banks using it. Artists can then use those voicebanks and tweak them in their own way and make it their own. That's a basic explanation
Vocaloid is basically a synthesizer program used to produce vocals. A real person banks their voice into it and then it is usually sold or marketed as a character which was popularized massively by names you may have heard of like Hatsune Miku. Every aspect of the pitch and words to now even added breaths are selected by the producer. It allows musical creation without dependence on finding a singer also in some cases songs that couldn't normally be sung by a human vocalist to be created. Covering these kinds of songs are what has led to the technical flexibility that Ado possess.
All the instrumentalists are credited in the description. This is not a vocaloid cover, it's a Shiina Ringo cover, but vocaloid producers also do tend to be instrumentalists... Just solo musicians who might not be able to do *all* the instruments. Don't think I've ever heard synth guitar in vocaloid. If you want an intro to vocaloid check out Ado's new song "Sakura Biyori and Time Machine", especially the live version at the Olympic Stadium. It's a duet with her idol, the vocaloid Hatsune Miku lol
in terms of vocaloid its machine generated voices (not AI), that's not what ado is but if you listen to her recent song sakura biyori and time machine, that song features a duet with hatsune miku and hatsune miku is a vocaloid. the software itself essentially has piano keys on the y axis and the x axis is time so you type the lyirc on the line/key you want and you can set the duration/ how long to hold the note by expanding the bar on the x axis, it's a bit hard to explain but the software is relatively simple. the voice bank you use also determines "who" is singing and the most popular voice banks often get character designs attributed to them of what that singer might look like, which is where hatsune miku and other vocaloids come from. also to address something else you mentioned a few times, vocaloid is just the singer some producers will create the music digitally but alot is also performed live, especially for vocaloid concerts the music is always a live band even if the singing is not.
While Ado herself isn't vocaloid she just started out doing alot of covers of vocaloid music, it would be interesting to see you react to some vocaloid music and get your take on the synthetic singers. There's alot of very talented producers I have alot of recs there but something like Dune - Hachi (which is Kenshi Yonezu's alter ego), Gomenne Gomenne - Kikuo , Lagtrain - Inabakumori or World is Mine - Supercell would be good options to dip your toes in.
Vocaloid is yes- artifical computer singing- you type in the lyrics and it sings them- there are lots of default voices - each represented by a cartoon character - and you can tweak them to the n'th degree to make them sound different, more or less realistic etc- down to controling the pitch and intonation of every sylable- tho not many users go that far. Its for people who write music at home who cant sing can still have singing in their songs- its hugely popular in Japan and has given rise to many huge talents, for which it was a gateway into producing and writing non vocaloid music. Ado is NOT a vocaloid singer- she is a vocaloid FAN - who started out and still does, covers of vocaloid songs. But with her real voice obviously. She dosnt use the software at all - as is 100% obvious if you go listen to any of it lol- its not that realistic - but many love its sound.
Vocaloid from what I understand is vocal synthesizer used to make non human voices. Where Ado comes into this is she first started out covering Vocaloid songs on the internet. She still does a mix of covers and her own stuff to this day
This is not a vocaloid song but also Vocaloid songs can also include real instruments like guitars, bass, real drums,...etc. The only thing that makes a song a "Vocaloid song" is the singing
If you want to listen to some of Ado's VOCALOID songs, I would recommend the following 【Ado】恋は戦争 歌いました (Love is War) ua-cam.com/video/1OI4Bp8fGYw/v-deo.html (Very classic VOCALOID song) 【Adoと初音ミク】カルチャ 歌いました (culture) ua-cam.com/video/13ZBjvLH9NE/v-deo.html (Ado and VOCALOID's official social media promotion Can hear Ado and VOCALOID's most famous character "Hatsune Miku" singing together at the same time) 【Ado】 桜日和とタイムマシン with 初音ミク (Sakura Biyori and Time Machine with Hatsune Miku) ua-cam.com/video/nIWZfhpnq6M/v-deo.html 【LIVE映像】桜日和とタイムマシン with 初音ミク 国立競技場 2024.4.28【Ado】 (LIVE ver.) ua-cam.com/video/Vrr2gFTYMGQ/v-deo.html (Ado and her childhood idol "Hatsune Miku" performed a memorable original song together on stage for the first time, and the lyrics also showed Ado's love for VOCALOID)
@@Ghorda9 I think other comments have explained it very clearly, so I am not going to repeat it here. I am going to provide examples to help people understand the actual difference between real people and VOCALOID. As for the first song, it is just my personal recommendation.😂
there seems to be some confusion. Ado is not a vocaloid singer, she just covers some vocaloid songs and even did a song "with" Hatsune Miku, the most popular example of a Vocaloid. Ado is a real person who sings her own music but has done a lot of covers as well, and this song is also a cover, but the original singer of this song was a real person too, Sheena Ringo. Godish, one of the songs you reacted to, was a song originally produced by someone using Hatsune Miku as the vocals for the song.
It's interesting that ado covered the vocaloid song that was said to be sung by humans at the beginning, and before I knew it, I began to misunderstand the song of ado singing in that crazy, inhuman voice.
Sheena Ringo‘s original version is way better than this one. This song is about the craziness of a girl who suffers to live in a urbant city. Ado did good job but her craziness is like teen-ager girl chasing you with a nailed bat in her hands. Sheena Ringo`s original one is like matured woman throwing perfume bottle at you. same song but huge difference. I want to hear what makes such difference from expert 's perspective 😊
you're the second person I've watched this week who thinks Ado is a vocaloid and it pisses me off. Like where do you get your info from? Such a disservice to her fantastic voice... SMH
have you heard the part where i said "i don't know what vocaloid is, please, help me understand"?.... i bet you were too busy getting your panties in a knot. how about you grow the fuck up and learn how to talk to people, instead of trying to be a keyboard warrior douche canoe?
Just wanted to give a helpful correction of the language you are using. Why is the drummer a he and the guitarist a he? I'm not sure myself but you could just say guitarist and drummer. Other then that, great review. See all other comments related to Ado but, in short, Ado is not a vocaloid but perhaps inspired somewhat by vocaloids and does a lot of covers of vocaloid songs which this is not.
They're both male. Katsushiro Sato and Rock Sakurai. And neither of them are native English speakers, if they even speak any at all, thus the concept of English non-standard pronouns would be literally foreign to them. This is a helpful correction to not apply "English defaultism" to cultures where English is not a relevant nor prominent language. As an ESL speaker this gets rather annoying to see sometimes.
I hear you. I do my best to be as inclusive as possible in the way i speak, however i am human and i'm still making some mistakes, for that i apologize. I knew the band mates were "he" just by reading the description, however that doesn't mean they use those pronouns. I'll continue to work on it and I thank you for keeping me honest and holding me to the necessary standard.
@@DavidBraileyLive I guess I was also maybe jumping to conclusions. It seems that Ado is new to you so I was assuming you would not know her band mates or who was in this song. But, if you knew then I think it is perfectly fine to use pronouns.
