Interesting to see I'm not the only one. Came back to Germany from a 3 month stay in China (Beijing & Xinjiang) and had a big reverse culture shock. I know Germany since earily childhood and it's no secret that Germany is not the most friendly, positive or hospitable country, despite being a rich country (for some wealthy folks at least). However it still shocked me because after staying for some longer time in China I just got used to the positive vibes, feeling of safety, amazing and cheap transportation, simplified and fast processes, and kindheartedness in China. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to see Germany again, but the positive vibe turned into a rather depressive one immediately at arrival in Germany: Everyone just stares aggressively and quietly at everyone, as if everyone is suspicious and their enemy. Paying customers are commanded to leave the cafe/restaurant, just because they finished their (overpriced and tasteless) sandwhich and coffee 5 or so minutes ago and just wanted to relax a couple minutes after eating/drinking (even though still plenty of empty tables/benches), homeless people and drug addicts everywhere, asking you for empty bottles or money, some of them aggressive and following you, police is very aggressive (I'd never get the idea to ask them for help as it usually brings you trouble. In China no problem), train staff shouting at customers for accidentally buying the wrong but equally expensive ticket (our ticket system is HELLA complicated with dozens of ticket-types for the same route). And of course problems with the trains again (even though we pay a fortune on train tickets for even very short distances) and good luck getting your money back hahahaha. Finally on arrival at my city's trainstation I get greeted by the sight of my bicycle missing parts (stolen seat) and having air-empty tires (some people cut them, I guess just for fun or because people love to ruin other people's days here?). Those things happened also before my China trip but I always kept quiet and sometimes I even thought that it's my fault and I deserve the cold treatment in Germany, because I did something wrong (Nope, I didn't do anything wrong). It's only after my China trip that I FULLY realize it's TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and we should never tolerate what's going on in the west. My experience in China gave me more confidence to speak up and defend myself.
I'm from Germany, too. But guess what, if you're friendly most will be friendly, too. Especially going shopping or in any other service industry. I don't think all are nice and positive in Chin I get curious but also hostile stares. But also have been refused to be served at the supermarket. So, it's so so... I get the safety part, but I wouldn't walk alone at night in China, either. I think big cities in Germany are a little like this, but never had any issues at night living in Leipzig. I, however, really love working here and not living paycheck to paycheck.
Another thing I noticed about Life in China VS "in the West": I felt RICH in China, but NOT because of my financial situation (I'm a normal working-class guy without much money). I felt rich simply because China spends SO DAMN MUCH on nice things for the public everywhere! Like really, really fancy nice things that one can experience either for free or for a reasonable "working-class-kid-friendly" prices. Even in the "poorer" neighbourhoods, because the government actually takes care of it's people. Every day I could see, experience, eat, buy, consume amazing things in China that wouldn't even be affordable for some upper-middleclass-ish people in the West. For example, I ate at the same restaurants where hyper-rich western government members went to eat, I rode amazing public transportation for almost no money at all, studied in book-stores and libraries for free, which looked like palaces and had guards in fancy traditional uniforms and red carpets infront of the door. My first instinct "oh this must be some inaffordable rich-people place!", but nah... it's free to spend your whole day inside, read, relax, sleep and study. And many more experiences that would cost me a fortune here (or are just not available here for us normal folks at all). Even the "poor" people China enjoy more peace, stability, freedom, cultural activities etc., than most well paid people do in the West. And I love the fact that in China you don't have to enjoy it in isolation or with just some snobbish, elitist rich-kids. The vibe is so much better when everyone is having a good time instead of a tiny minority of rich people. I love and miss that about China.
YESS! I was so broke when I went to China for my gap year but there was still so much to do! And not only entertainment wise, it was so motivating and enabling to see so many young people study and work hard in public spaces and libraries.
Hi Aleese! I was only in Beijing for three weeks this summer but still felt some degree of shock upon returning to the US. The high prices, the old infrastructure in desperate need of repairs, etc. As a woman, I actually felt safe walking the streets of Beijing at night while now that I'm back in the US, I always have an anxiety spike once it gets dark outside😭There have been so many incidents of people getting robbed on and around my school campus...
I refuse to go out at night in the US even to dump garbage in my condo complex or nor do I go to the grocery store if I find out that I am short of an ingredient when cooking.
@@AleeseLightyear Yes I do have pepper spray. When I have to go out for an event at night and come home through the garage, I clutch tightly the pepper spray before I get out of my car.
Thank you for sharing. I just got back to USA from China. I totally in love with China. It is modern, new, and people are nice. Most important is the safety in China is unbelievable safe.
I think my biggest shock after coming back to Korea is the unhappy faces I saw and the immediate change I saw once I got to Atlanta was stark. Everyone looked mad at the world in the US and after seeing those prices I understood why.
I totally empathise with everything you mentioned here!! My wife and I have just moved back to the UK from Hong Kong as we’re expecting our first baby and wanted to be with family, but we’ve been absolutely shocked at the state of the country! It’s not at all what I remember, with extortionate living costs and high crime rates. We’re already looking at when we can return to HK. I never thought I’d say this, but I genuinely believe our child will have a much better (and safer) upbringing there and a much better education through the international schools! Anyway, keep the great content coming Aleese! :)
@@proTRUMPproREALMADRID I love Mainland China! My wife is from Beijing so we spend a lot of time there. Maybe one day we will move there to settle, but for now HK is where many of our friends and connections are. Both HK and the Mainland are great places to live! :)
The amount of homeless, the smell of urine and the tents on the sidewalks were a huge reverse culture shock for me after returning to San Francisco…..and of course everything else you observed as well.
hhahahaha the smell of urine is also everywhere in China! And now that I don't live in Beijing, I'm actually seeing more unhoused people in the streets of Chengdu, of course it's a much smaller number than in the US
@@AleeseLightyear I just returned from Chengdu and have seen the “Smart” public bathrooms in the street corners and I didn’t noticed any smell. In fact there are street cleaners wiping down trash cans and cleaning sidewalks. Just my observations.
@@Banmuyuan from my observation, they were moved toward northwest direction. Tents are now set up along the Van Ness Ave. (101) and west towards the Richmond district. Open drug use in front of primary schools. A foreign news crew covering the APEC was robbed of all their equipments. That’s the state of San Francisco.
True, lots of public restrooms in China have bathroom attendants who clean it regularly, but the smell due to the sewage system cannot disappear @@billinsf88
Oh you're lucky being elsewhere the last 4 years Aleese. Since the pandemic started, it's been crazy in America since early 2020. Don't know how high groceries gone up around the country but here in Southern California, it's between 100%-300% across the board.
all those different brand are actually owned by a few companies so there isnt a lot of competition which is the true reason everything is so expensive in the usa. in china the companies that are that big are state owned so theyre forced to keep prices down by the gov. its awesome
The government in China has also started regulating prices at the dentist too lol So dental work has gotten EVEN cheaper in China! It's wonderful! I hope more ppl will actually go to the dentist now lol
I was visiting New York last year and noticed pretty much all the things you have mentioned. Living in the UK I feel we're not too far behind the States. Late stage capitalism is killing us!! If I didn't have a family here I would be off to China. I know China is not fully socialist but they're getting something right.
Also, in the UK the bloody expensive to buy the basic things. China is not a perfect place but the level of financial security and happiness in China is unmatched compared to the WEST. Glad I finally moved to the mainland and 3 months in. I am in love with China due to the warm hospitality and bloody delicious food everywhere lol...I hope we get to link up soon!!!
I think it's easy to say that people don't want to work but not consider that companies are laying people off and cutting hours to cut costs. So many places near me replaced cashiers with self check out because it's cheaper to not pay humans. Self check out doesn't need health insurance, break time, or days off. In some cases, it costs more to go to work than to keep applying for jobs because the gas price to get to work is too expensive and day care is also unaffordable. Unemployment is only available for 6 months so IDK how anyone is surviving but I have a lot of compassion for those who are trying to do better.
You're VERY right. All of this is so easy for me to say because I haven't actually lived it nor has it effected me. I had no idea unemployment was only available for 6 months?!? When I lived in NYC I was on and off unemployment for like 4 years, I know if I lived in the USA full time right now, I'd be hurting just like everyone else.
I'm co-signing your comment. People are also being fired for bogus reasons so companies don't have to do severance pay. They are taking the chance that the fired employee don't want to spend money and time on hiring a lawyer because of wrongful termination. Then these companies will gaslight everyone by saying "no one wants to work anymore." I was terminated last year. Had to sign an NDA in order to get my 2 months severance (because they liked me). And it's been really hard to find work. I'm lucky that my family and friends are very understanding and supportive. Also, I hardly leave the house.
Absolutely! I think things really changed while you were away and so it's been really bad here. I live in CA and we only get 6 months of unemployment and it can't be because we quit, it would have to be due to layoff. In some cases, companies like to cut hours and abuse the people they decide to keep by making them work multiple roles. It must have been so hard being in lockdown in China, too, and I hope you had way more support than us @@AleeseLightyear
@@grog1138 It's pretty crazy how they started the whole "no on wants to work anymore!" and then cut hours to avoid paying benefits that are meant for full time workers, won't hire anyone new to prevent burn out, and then expect people to be more productive. Yep! You're right about firing people and then making them sign NDAs or they'll hold your severance hostage. I'm sorry that things have been so rough. I also lost my job during the pandemic and it took so long to land something new. Wishing you the best on your job search.
@@grog1138 This. Tons and tons of fake job ads are being posted, people perfectly qualified and ready to work are ignored even if they find a real job posting AND make it past the AI bots to get human eyes on the resume. It is so hard for people to actually get a job and yet all these places keep acting like they're begging for help. Not to mention, really, it's not that people don't want to work, they don't want to spend all day exhausting themselves at a job that isn't even paying enough for them to get the basic necessities.
Hi Aleese! It's so glad to see you're still making video because i haven't seeing Laureen China Life doing it anymore, you're guys are like window of inspiration for us!
America wouldn’t change, I’m moving back to china next year. Was living there for three years too January 20, 2020 until this year April back to LA cost when up and no one can do anything about it so F it I’m moving to china
I work in retail and my store is dealing with the same thing. There’s not enough people. Every dept is understaffed and I’ve been wondering for the longest time how people are getting by and/or what jobs people are acquiring. The applications we DO receive are people who are opting for availability that isn’t conducive with peak store hours so they don’t get a callback.
We have always lived in a dystopian novel, but now we’re in the movie adaptation stage 😀. We can only go up from here. It’s so sad seeing how this is effecting families as well. I also think more now than ever, people are feeling discouraged to work because it’s not sustaining their needs.
100% Understand that may be a reason people aren't working. I feel like I would be in a similar situation if I was looking for work in the USA, it's just very hard to wrap my brain around
Reverse culture shock is sooo real. The thing about America though is I don't understand how not EVERYONE is fed up with this mess... I've been tired since the very beginning 😭 Aside from that, the group trip sounds amazing!! I'll be clearing out my calendar in excitement!
This contrast shows that China is a very well governed country with the government having majority of the people's interests in mind. This is why the Chinese people have the highest trust in its government according to multiple Western surveys (and the Western media won't publish). Law and order is the freedom that the US doesn't have. While the Chinese people cannot speak ill of the ruling party and have a good (and continually improving) life at the same time, the people in the US also make the Faustian bargain of having the freedom of speech but falling into the lowest common denominator of incompetency and severe division of the people. What's the use of freedom of speech when you cannot make ends meet and don't have a sense of safety? I am not saying that China has a better system, but it's not US's place to denigrate China on ideological ground given its own dismal reality, and to suppress China and to wish it to fail is outright immoral.
Very well said! I also can't say that China's systems are better, they are just what I've grown accustomed to after 4 years of a decently happy life here.
You really think so? ua-cam.com/video/0fvKzW_uiPk/v-deo.htmlsi=wYktTSHkM0l7ojJk In China the media cannot report anything without the CCP giving you the green light. China really isn't that much better than the US right now. They are in a mess. Right now millions of Chinese are moving out of China. It is so bad that the government has to do capital control. If everything is as picture perfect as you said, why are there so many people moving out? I hate it when people start comparing countries with each other. America itself isn't a bad country. People just love to exaggerate and make it seem like it's armageddon when it's not even close.
@@mystictraveler8642 It depends. There are bad people everywhere. Long long long time ago, I've got my handbag cut open with a razer blade in a Guangzhou bus. I think the Surveillance cameras nowadays helped a great deal. In that sense, yes, it's also about the people. The Chinese people are more practical - they are willing to trade their privacy to some degree for safety. Instead of stealing, fraud is a significant issue in China!
@@pandabearoceanpark I'm sure. But it's nothing compared to the United States. China is a huge country with many many cultures in that continent. It's like 4 United States in one continent. But so many people have been lifted out of poverty and in Asia it's considered to be embarrassing if people steal. People are looked down upon and it's shameful. In America there is no shame. So for a country with a billion people you will find majority of people returning wallets that they found and many many places where you can leave your computer or wallet on the table while you step out. Context matters. When you have a few incidents and paint the whole country a certain way it's not really accurate compared to the actual experience. It's not just the cameras it's the culture. And many people have been lifted out of poverty there. Even in South Korea they did an experiment many years ago where they had a hidden camera to see what people do with bags or purses left in the train. Almost everybody returned it to the train stations lost and found. With a few people returning it to the actual owner. That is what Asia is really like. That's why it's no surprise where you have so many stores where they don't even have a cashier. It's all automated and people just go and pay honorably.
About the stealing, you are so right. I was watching a vlog of someone who visited South Korea and they literally left all their personal belongings outside while they went to the restroom. Not one person touched it. Meanwhile in America, you never know..
Finally seeing you again on UA-cam Aleese is such a relief! Worried you weren’t gonna come back to us 😅😅 reverse culture shock is not at all surprising tbh but your reaction to everything is hilarious 🤣🤣 glad to see you glowing and happy. Also very excited for you to be doing this travel thing. Wish I could go along with you but commitments at home make it hard 😔 hope you vlog everything though
I don’t think she would feel the same about diversity in the US if they didn’t have “her people”. China has plenty of diversity, just not brown or black people. It’s quite ignorant to call China “homogenous” when they have Russian looking people to the Northeast, Middle Eastern-looking people to the west, dark-skinned Tibetan people to the south-west and dark-skinned Southeast Asian-looking people to the southeast, not to mention all of their diverse cultures and languages. In contrast, the American culture is quite similar from state to state.
I don't think it's fair to say "people don't wanna work", for what I've seen if you work at a restaurant for ex, you depend on tips to make enough money to afford a living, people who work on Target, they work extreme hours and can't afford rent, food and clothes...it's like giving all your energy and free time to work and not even get payed enough to be able to pay rent, it's complicated. People stealing stores every day, walking around with guns and putting the workers at risk of something bad happening for less than minimum wage doesn't seem fair to me
My favorite person . Hope to meet you one day . I am right away going to fill in the survey.. yes I love this video too . I recently traveled back to Namibia. And the culture shocks was real .. it’s crazy . I am happy to see your radiate energy ❤❤
Ohhhh girl! After ALL the time we have been gone, it's like our homes are barely recognizable! Happy to hear that you made it home- hope it was wonderful!! Reverse culture shock is so wild!
It is so sad to see my home country, the US, the country that I lauded, and was happy and proud to be a part of for so long, go so downhill so fast. We have certainly lost our way politically, socially, and certainly morally. I lived for two years in China and it was absolutely wonderful. I certainly hope I can convince my husband to go back there with me and experience it for himself. Great people, excellent food, great prices, and just a general sense of community simply by taking in the sites and being among the people, even if you don’t actually personally know them.
Such an interesting video! Very important to have this first person outlook, not from an outsider pov! Shocking though.. hope everything finds its balance..!
Inflation where I live here in the US is crazy. I went to 7/11 yesterday to get a snickers, and it jumped 30 cents in just one day. The other day it was $3, now it's $3.30. I think I'm going to stop buying stuff like this for awhile. 5 years ago it was $2. I get reverse culture shock here in the US just by driving a few miles in either direction where I live. 😂. I feel like I'm in a completely different country sometimes.
I think people are working for themselves. Nobody wants to work in fast food and supermarkets. Being laid off and sent home during covid gave many people the confidence to start their own businesses.
As a Canadian, it's all gone nuts here too! Inflation (corporate greed) has gone NUTS and they refuse to pay more, which is logical because they can't make record profits every single year without charging more for services and then paying employees properly. Aleese you're gonna become a communist if you pay attention to that too much!! (Which I fully support girl 🥰) The horrible gaps between working class and the rich are more prevailed and with increasing poverty comes increase in crimes. Love your input on everything in this video ❤ if I could afford a trip I would join you in your 2024 adventure! I will say though the lie that no one wants to work anymore is popular, but really people are sick of working for poverty wages. Exactly like you said stagnant wages and shitty employers has made people tired of putting up with it all, if you're gonna be poor working at target then just go on benefits and I don't blame them aha
Many stores do not hire people for full time jobs - it is only 37hr- just short of qualifying for health insurance. On the up side, Walmart does provide you with applications for Medicaid since the wages they paid are so low.👍
Hey Ms. A. You are so right. We were both home at same time and I left supermarket in NYC and literally had 7-10 things in my bag and it was like $100. Don't even get me started about the theft! Insane, Stay overseas as long as you can and make make make that moola ... and NOOO you didn't say titties out ....lollllll🧡
I think the staff shortages are not just a result of Covid. Our labor force participation rates are not bad and our unemployment is extremely low. Our actual population is smaller now than it was before the pandemic (not just because people died, but because we had been actively restricting immigration for years before the pandemic) and the jobs we offer people are all part time. If we hired people full time instead of part time, it would reduce the shortages. But since we make health care part of a job benefits package and we expect employers to pay over time, they are not incentivized to hire people full time. They are incentivized to hire people for part time and then have them work 37 hours a week without sick time or health care. The stats at the beginning when talking about how much it costs to live and how much American’s make is a little misleading. It was said that American’s make average $75k, but they don’t. That’s the median household income and most households include multiple earners which means the numbers are even worse than your opening sequence would suggest. It takes two incomes to not make enough money to live in America.
Funny thing about gas price. Theres a song from a group called Out of Eden amd the song is called Day Like Today. A lyric goes "Get gas and I pay a dollar ninety-three (what?!)".... that line always strikes me as one of those lyrics that didnt age well. Like destiny child's bugaboo "tell mci to cut the phone poles" ...mci doesn't exist anymore and gas has not been under $2 for....nearly 2 decades now
In order to appreciate more about USA or to be a better person, all Americans youth need to travel outside of USA for at lease 1 to 2 years in their lifetime.
@AleeseLightyear "Will" will pay for it. All my boys did it. They all came back with a more positive outlook towards life: a vision. Best investment ever. They started with short trips at junior high. Preferably the 3rd world.
i didnt get a stimulus check or anything ( bc im a student who depends on my parents lol ) but just from looking at the news n seeing the way prices of everything have shot up since the beginning of covid i doubt that itty bit of money actually did anything ☠️ esp after student loan repayments were restarted
covid was just convenient excuse or cover for the corporate oligarchs ruling elites to jack up prices of everything. . The ukR war was another chance for them to inflate prices again. Always capitalising on situations to push prices to new high The inflationary cycle after another cycle is all planned . All bcos of free market capitalism with no govt regulatory oversight . The political leaders are in bed with their corporate sponsors. Different in China No price gorging by pte companies or monopolies and the govt regulates them m keep prices of essential goods n services low.
Aleese, you should have bought your carry-on suitcase in Beijing, lol! I was recently in BJ and I bought a LARGE suitcase for 150 kuai or about $21 !! While I love the US, I don't think I will go back and live there because it is too expensive, divisive and unsafe atm.

Same in the UK where I lived regarding clothings on women that are almost non existent. Myself I don’t know how to react, it’s quite shocking to me most of the time, you cannot not stare unfortunately
My Walmart has almost all self check outs. It don’t have a nail salon anymore, do have a bank, Subway and Auntie Anne’s. I get overwhelmed in stores myself. I was in a small town for a little bit visiting family and there were no stoplights and no fast food places or Walmart. They have to travel an hour for those places. They have a small grocery store. I would love to move abroad for a while maybe after I get my tech degree.
It is sorry to say, but Americans, including even the lower working class, are still the beneficiaries of the international division of labor, that means, theoretically on average, each person receives more benefits from society as compared to the world's average level of payment. The problem lies in the dysfunctional mechanism caused by the monopoly of power and capital, which has destroyed the positive feedback mechanism of payoffs and rewards, as well as social moral
oh yes , add 1 more key point: agree, i loooove the diversity! here in oz, so many diverse ppl and you just get inspired by just watching some of them, oh and cultural food! China doesnt have this diversity thing as in not a large diverse population of assorted racial or ethnic backgrounds. I enjoy the diversity here, as it makes life fun and interesting! ❤

As for people “not wanting to work”: the harsh reality is the wages are stagnant; profit is up but so is theft/shrink; everywhere is understaffed working with a skeleton crew which directly contributes to overworking/burning out the employees WHO DO SHOW UP until they end up sick and tired from stress. Someone is always hiring and everyone’s raise is the next job. It’s a vicious cycle. The economy should’ve collapsed during the start of the pandemic and it didn’t. Instead, corporations and business for the most part amassed so much profit. Nothing changed after toxic workplaces were exposed and now those same places strong arm their old habits. People “aren’t working” they’re moving on to the next job continuously. It doesn’t benefit anyone to stay in one place when wages are stagnant.
🤮🤮🤮🤮 I KNOW! On Tik Tok, there was a nasty ass no underwear/see thru/transparent challenge that soooo many young women were participating in. Just NASTY
13:58 Unless you were a single parent with multiple kids, you’d get up to $4,000 in one stimmy. If you’re the average single person, you got up to $1200 over the span of 12 months. You saw the cost of goods here and likely the cost of living. That money doesn’t get you very far. That doesn’t even cover a month’s rent!
This sad rhetoric of people “having more money” came from fear of losing everything. That’s one piece of the sad American puzzle that doesn’t account for all of the other (financial) problems people were/are facing. The economy should’ve collapsed and corporations should’ve crumbled but they thrived and amassed record breaking profits. I don’t know what kind of people got stimmys to live on AND SAVE but it sure wasn’t a lot of people. Numbers may not lie but they can be manipulated.
I feel like on the laundry list of issues the US is facing, reparations is definitely near the bottom. I think most people would be happier with cheaper health care or student loan forgiveness?!
I am Asian American from CA and I remember when I visited Japan for 1 year I had culture shock. They probably can't really tell since I may look similar to them and only learned that I'm not one of the local when I speak English. Every country has pros and cons. I remember how when I came back to the U.S., I didn't like how the streets were dirty and crimes being high. I'm always driving in the U.S. while train systems are so convenient in Japan. I felt relatively safe in Japan and notice that people don't worry about others stealing their shoes and umbrellas when placed outside of their doorways in Japan. Most Japanese were quite efficient with things as they're always on a time crunch. I had reverse shock when I came back to the U.S. when the teller at the bank was super friendly and chatty with me while helping me, which is one of the things I realized I miss because people in Japan do not want to do small talks or engage beyond what they need to do for you while they are working. I also love the diversity in the U.S.
LoL! On the bright side, God loves poor people, and inflation makes more people poor. We've gone naked cause we can't afford clothes. If I stare, I get canceled.

So did you find any mass murdering and concentration camps according to the West?? 😂😂😂 now you finally realize it's you who was brainwashed.
Proud for achievements in China, and sad for the state in EU.
Sadly, proud and racist people in the West think they know best, and it is the Asians who are brainwashed. 🤣😂
Now you understand who is truly a third-world country in appearance and mindset. 😒
A very good new point on the comparison of the two countries!
Very well explained!
YESS! I was so broke when I went to China for my gap year but there was still so much to do! And not only entertainment wise, it was so motivating and enabling to see so many young people study and work hard in public spaces and libraries.
@@mochichichi2458 absolutely. The environment made it so joyful and motivating to study. I wish we had this where I'm from.
Damn! You got pepper spray?
When it comes to safety, it truly feels like the US should be doing soooo much more to protect everyday citizens, but they ain't

I totally agree!! It's a very stark difference between the 2 countries!
I think my biggest shock after coming back to Korea is the unhappy faces I saw and the immediate change I saw once I got to Atlanta was stark. Everyone looked mad at the world in the US and after seeing those prices I understood why.
hahahah unhappy faces was really your biggest shock? wow....seems so small in the grande scheme of things
Im teaching my daughter a foreign language so she can atgend international schools as well.
Why not check out Mainland China? It's the same as Hong Kong but significantly cheaper and authentic
correction-- it IS NOT the same as Hong Kong....let's be real! May be the same country but 2 different systems@@proTRUMPproREALMADRID
@@proTRUMPproREALMADRID I love Mainland China! My wife is from Beijing so we spend a lot of time there. Maybe one day we will move there to settle, but for now HK is where many of our friends and connections are. Both HK and the Mainland are great places to live! :)
China feels more authenic and safe, but HK is more international. Maybe you can compare it to Shanghai and Beijing
Is San Francisco cleaned up all the streets of homeless people or just the ones near Moscone Convention Center?
@@Banmuyuan from my observation, they were moved toward northwest direction. Tents are now set up along the Van Ness Ave. (101) and west towards the Richmond district. Open drug use in front of primary schools.

Don't know how high groceries gone up around the country but here in Southern California, it's between 100%-300% across the board.
all those different brand are actually owned by a few companies so there isnt a lot of competition which is the true reason everything is so expensive in the usa. in china the companies that are that big are state owned so theyre forced to keep prices down by the gov. its awesome
The government in China has also started regulating prices at the dentist too lol
So dental work has gotten EVEN cheaper in China!
Sheku, I have been watching your videos and recommending your channel. Love your videos.
hahahah I think you're still in the honeymoon phase
Then these companies will gaslight everyone by saying "no one wants to work anymore."
I was terminated last year.
I love watching your videos! You keep giving me reasons to keep trying to convince my husband (who’s Chinese btw) to move to China. 😂
Hi Aleese! It's so glad to see you're still making video because i haven't seeing Laureen China Life doing it anymore, you're guys are like window of inspiration for us!

I just got back from a month long trip in China and everything in the US seems so much more expensive and lower quality
I felt that leaving the house and suddenly spending $100.00 part.😂
Kudos, Aleese for such a great video that's spoken with observation, heart and truth.💜
Thanks so much! You totally get where I'm coming from!
The American economy is ridiculous! And this why I am keeping my options open when it comes to exploring other countires and cultures. 😅 Tfs
I've been tired since the very beginning 😭
Aside from that, the group trip sounds amazing!! I'll be clearing out my calendar in excitement!
Can't wait to hang with you on the trip!!
Aleese is full of energy
You really think so?
ua-cam.com/video/0fvKzW_uiPk/v-deo.htmlsi=wYktTSHkM0l7ojJk
In China the media cannot report anything without the CCP giving you the green light.
It's not just the government. It's the people. Majority of Asian countries you can leave your stuff on the table and nobody steals.
It's crazy!!
Finally seeing you again on UA-cam Aleese is such a relief! Worried you weren’t gonna come back to us 😅😅 reverse culture shock is not at all surprising tbh but your reaction to everything is hilarious 🤣🤣 glad to see you glowing and happy. Not coming back??!?!? Hahahahah I couldn't live with myself if I just u and quit youtube and didn't make a video about WHY!
I love hearing your joy about U.S. diversity. ❤

The horrible gaps between working class and the rich are more prevailed and with increasing poverty comes increase in crimes.

I will say though the lie that no one wants to work anymore is popular, but really people are sick of working for poverty wages. Exactly like you said stagnant wages and shitty employers has made people tired of putting up with it all, if you're gonna be poor working at target then just go on benefits and I don't blame them aha
I was talking to a friend, just this week, about the reverse cultural shock. I feel you! 😅
Right?!
Many stores do not hire people for full time jobs - it is only 37hr- just short of qualifying for health insurance. On the up side, Walmart does provide you with applications for Medicaid since the wages they paid are so low.👍
wow----37 hours a week----what a scam! These companies are awful!
Is that your new apartment?! I’ve been dying to see it! ❤
I have to go to like three or four places to get a variety of stuffs….Trader Joe’s, Safeway, local Chinese supermarket, Costco.
I remember a police station and a sheriff station inside of a Walmart in Kansas City on 87th and Hillcrest.
Those cheap $3 taobao sunglasses would cost 3 or 4 times more if sold in the US.
Maybe double the price, they really were not that nice. Could have been sold at the dollar store in the US🤣🤣🤣
Biggest reverse cuture shock for me is the food and the price for dinner.
I want to join a group trip. I am in Memphis, Tn I will check out the survey
Hey Ms.
I remember when we talked about everyone being naked! hahaha! I'm still like oh wow with the trend of nipples on display. 😂
you saw Kim K's new Skims with built in hard nipples?!

Funny thing about gas price. Theres a song from a group called Out of Eden amd the song is called Day Like Today.

@@AleeseLightyear still cheap tho! :)
Aleese, how do you like 2023 Detroit DRIVING? LOLOLOL😱
not being rude.. there are staff shortage here in the UK too.. nobody wants to work.. because they can go out and steal.. the teenager would go train surfing.. another word.. travel without paying.. to travel on a dirty slow train cost several time the cost of a highspeed train in China.. the food quality is getting worst and worst.. the packaging looks fantastic.. but the content never match the pictures.. I've been in a US supermarket.. you get the impression as if you have a so much choice.. but in reality its the same thing with different colour dye added with different flavour.. that's not a choice it a scam..
All true
Hit the nail on the head ! Your had me laughing at the look on your face when you see "everything hanging out" at the stores! We all have the same look ! And don't stare to long because then your excuse of being creepy!
It was so jarring!!! I don't understand why everyone needs to be overly sexy alllll the damn time!
@@AleeseLightyear, my Mom would often say . Obviouly she didnt look in the mirror today! LOL. My little ditty is. Just because it comes in your size doesnt mean you should wear it!
LOL
Girl, PREACH!!! 🙌🏽 All of it. Just agreed! I’m gonna fill out the survey just to help out, but as much as I’d LOVE to go on the trip, I can’t due to the aforementioned inflation and low wages😅…and the whole single mom thing 🤷🏽♀️ lol but I hope you guys have a great time! 🎉
ALEESE!! I am screaming! HER WHOLE LXBIA IS OUT, LIKE, WHAT!? 😭 😭 💀 8:15
WELCOME HOME! 🎉 🤭 This is America: land of the brave and home of the hang free! 🤣
说实话我在海外活得也很中国,而且街上遇到的人也都长得差不多,老家的还亲切些,好像真的没有reverse culture shock😂可能因为我是新疆人+澳洲黑人不多吧
The biggest problem I see in this country is our REPARATION money!! REPARATION will solve alllllll crimes!! Settle down and do your math!!
fat chance. Unless they get kickbacks like they do with wars, you're not going to get your reparations.
I feel like on the laundry list of issues the US is facing, reparations is definitely near the bottom. I think most people would be happier with cheaper health care or student loan forgiveness?!
Hey..a long time
But I'm back now!!!!
I would like to travel with you in America.😂
Take the survey! An American trip can happen!!
Take the survey! An American trip can happen!!
I strongly recommend people who have a drug problem to move out of the USA before it's too late.
Damn..... you can't even be a successful drug addict in the US

This was not no land of the free when it was written in the 1700's.
LoL! On the bright side, God loves poor people, and inflation makes more people poor. We've gone naked cause we can't afford clothes. If I stare, I get canceled.
hahahh the crazy thing is that crop tops and booty shorts are the same price as a long sleeve shirt and jeans!
There is nothing wrong with the USA. Just the certain people that inhabit it.
hhaahaha....that's one way to look at it.
someone speaking from his ivory tower. There's alot wrong with the USA, lack of affordable healthcare, income disparity, police brutality, warmongering, crumbling infrastructure, etc.., if by "certain people", you meant the uniparty government, then you are correct tho.

How was the sewage oil food in china ? 😮
Just as delicious as all the cancer causing food in America
@@AleeseLightyear sewage oil is toxic and does 10x the harm American food does . The Chinese news does health reports on it , the Chinese government is trying to stop it . The say 90% of restaurants buy sewage oil because it’s cheaper. Look it up countless news clips on it you say it’s delicious but the Chinese government say it’s toxic and every time they shut down a sewer oil processing plant another pop up . China also has 43 years worth of radioactive water they need to dump and they slowly been dumping it in their ocean which is why other countries don’t want to buy fish from china .
KFC and McDonalds gave me loose and watery stools.
@@KonShiungWong I haven’t eaten Mc Donald’s since I was 7 and I can’t remember ever eating kfc lol
Yummy! Can't get enough of it, mmmmm . Delicious 😋
