Girllll , I needed this,I'm literally finishing off a TEFL certification plus my university degree and I want to first start teaching online then MAYBE IN PERSON ,Travel abroad, thanks a Bunch Aleese... I'm doing BA in English and Environmental Science❤❤ I'm in South Africa lol
Excellent video. I'm from NYC, and have been teaching ESL here for almost four years. I am actually considering making a major move to China. Thank you for dropping these golden gems of information. Very detailed, and straight to the point. 🌹
I am a Science teacher in the UK and I've always to experience working in another country. I don't think I'd be a good English teacher but I have seen in the past for Science teachers in Chinese schools (this is on a British teaching website) and it always peaked my interest, so I found this video quite interesting!
I’ve never taught before but this video definitely got my interest and the thinking of the possibilities of teaching/travelling. Great video Aleese!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm a nonnative English speaker, but I have a US passport. That's all it takes! I know a few nonnative English speakers who teach. But, they also have a Master's in English, tho. Not all of them....
Good information- just something VERY important to mention. If you're looking for a teaching job, NEVER EVER and I mean that NEVER sign a contract through an agent! They will steal your money, do unlawful deductions and never pay you on time. Always sign the contract with the school or university directly. I speak from personal experience: my first teaching job was through an agent. The school paid him 14K but he paid me 10K (I only found out when I was leaving the school). I also always had a struggle to get my salary and more than once I had to threaten and report him to the school. So PLEASE BEWARE of agents and sign the contract with the school, kindergarten or university directly!
Hi! Thanks for the informative video. I’m coming to China next month from the UK on a university study exchange. What types of apps and banking systems should I install before coming to make the transition smoother? Thank you xx
Congrats on your big move! I suggest wise.com. Easy online bank service to transfer money anywhere. You will need to open a chinese bank account when you arrive and then let the bank staff help you ti downlaod and navigate the app for that. Other than that, just alipay and wechat for money.
@@AleeseLightyear can I use foreign bank cards with Ali pay and wechat and what vpns work in china. Also any recommendations for translation apps? thank you!
What things are there to do socially? Most of what I see online is people talking about restaurants or bars but I wouldn’t want to do either as my main social activity. Do you or other expats do other activities? What are some popular things people do socially?
Actually, you need pass a examination to get a teacher certificate before teaching if you are a Chinese. It seems more easy for the English native speakers to get the job.😊
Another creator recently posted a similar video, and said that although you do not explicitly need a teaching license to work in China, you now can only work in Kindergartens without the license. He said you can come to China, start in a kindergarten, work on the license from China, and then move up the ranks after you complete it. Thoughts?
I've taught in China before and am now looking for a new contract. I talked to a recruiter last night and they asked for a "finders fee" of 150 dollars. Red flag! I know full well that recruiters get a percentage from the school where the teacher is placed. What are your thoughts?
Not necessary but it's perfered. I suggest doing some volunteer work, student teaching or get an online teaching job to give you a leg up on other people applying for teaching jobs.
Hey sister my name is Nelson from South Africa. I do have a Bachelor degree however the actual certificate is with my University hence I have some outstanding fees to pay. Will that be a problem ?
Hi Aleese I am learning Mandarin Chinese and i am from Belgium in Europe but i studied in America and i received my High school Diploma in Dallas Texas would that be ok to become an English teacher in China ?
What's the pay like or difference between getting a teaching license vs the TEFL certification? I heard that that license will get you higher paying teaching jobs.
I'm from Ireland. I'm a bit discouraged after watching this since I always saw Ireland being one of the countries named in adverts. Is it still possible for me to get a job?
Hi Aleese!:) With regards to educational requirements do you just need a certified proof of your degree or both diploma and grades? I have a graduate degree and looking more to teach at the college/university level, maybe primary school level. Thank you
Hi dear Aleese ,you are doing great! Its Sumaira from Pakistan. I'm good at English but not that fluent.I'm being teaching since last 20 years. Can I apply for teaching job ?plz must reply.
In China they prefer non-ethnic asian native English speakers. that's why if you're black or white (no offensive) who from english speaking countries congrats .
It's going to be much harder due to a lot of bias and backward thinking as schools unfortunately prefer non-Asian teachers, but it is possible. Just need to be a bit more diligent with the job search and more open to school type and location.
They can, I mentioned that I don't know much about how to get a teaching job as a non-native because I'm not totally sure how easy or difficult the process is.
I don't think it's accurate that you must be under 55 initially as I have been offered work myself - legally - and I know people who have gone there older that that.

yea probably not. if you're asian looking then they might turn you down for not "looking the part". kinda of ridiculous I know
