*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. What I feel a lot of people are missing with this song is that the monotonous, hard-hitting verses are supposed to be relentless. It feels like its constantly building to something and when the chorus comes in all of that tension is finally released, crying "I'd love it if we made it".
Exactly. Like listening to Phil Collins. "In The Air Tonight" most of it is subdued until 3 minutes in and then it drops into a hard groove. And you as the listener, your patience pays off.. and the contrast of the monotone chords and lyrics feels greater and more refreshing and hard hitting because of it. These guys are musical/lyrical geniuses..

Safe to say their "style" is pretty difficult to pin down definitively.
They pretty much are like 18 genres in one 😭
one of my fave songs from them, definitely agree with the modern day "we didn't start the fire" comparison.
"Girls", "Somebody Else," "Its Not Living If Its Not With You," "She's American," are other good ones by the 1975

But one of the first songs I heard was "Chocolate", it's really catchy honestly haha

is funny how this song is a couple of years old and still very recent and probably will be for a while considering the things we are going through. And yes the song has a lot of references to Trump, police brutality, religion (matty has been very vocal about his atheism) racism, sexuality etc etc. The ideia is the he (matty) the vocalist (and adam, ross and george the guitarist, bassist and drummer) would actually love it if we made it, if society doesn’t destroy itself. The faces appearing in the bridge and the end are some fans they called to be part of some of their videos and the last person that appears is Matty himself.
The dance sequence is a homage to Michael Jackson’s video for the song “the way you make me feel”
I know sonically this isn’t the best, it’s mostly about Matty venting about everything but they are a really interesting band. I don’t think they fit in a genre (and they reinvent themselves in every album), so I’d suggest: Somebody Else (their most popular song), The Sound, If I Believe You, Robbers, It’s not living, Robbers, Girls, People, Sincerity Is Scary...
I would love to see more of The 1975, Jersh! One of my absolute favorite bands and the message in this song shows why I love them so much. I would definitely recommend checking out more of their songs!
I'd never heard of this band before but this was very cool. Modern yet retro, socially conscious yet hip... very cool.

I am SO HAPPY you are reacting to The 1975 i literally love them so much one of my favourite bands. You should listen also to: People, The sound, Robbers, Sincerity Is Scary, Is not living if is not with you. Also is important to know that every album they reinvent themselves and produce something different therefore they’re not a “rock” band or “pop” is a a mix of so many stuff.

"Somebody Else" is my favorite song of theirs and one of the few songs I can listen to daily for years and not get bored of it. I highly recommend that.
The fact you thought this was released in 2020 show just how relevant this song will be for a long time. It's definitely crazy.
Another great band. They've got a lot of different sounding songs in their catalog. It goes from completely pop to the harder styles of rock. This song is one of my faves.

I think the intention of the verses IS to be "monotone/monotonous" because we're fed this sensory overload of NEWS (LIGHTS in video) that "should" break our hearts but we move on to the next day, next news cycle, next celebrity gossip, etc and forget about what we just saw.

Please react to It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)!!! By the 1975 💘💘
You said the singing part is monotonous, please check out other songs by the1975 and you will actually be surprised by Matt Healy’s (lead singer) vocal range, some songs he sounds so serious and others almost child like. They are by default a Pop/Rock band, they are from the UK. This video is a powerful and thought provoking, as is the lyrics of the song that kinda shows that society is eating itself, and we as a human race are allowing ourselves to be sucked in by those in power.
I don't know if you take suggestions from people who aren't Patrons, but if you do, I feel like you would really enjoy Twenty One Pilots' music. They're very well known for completely switching up melodies of songs, sometimes to the point where you could think it's two songs mashed into one. Ode to Sleep and Heavydirtysoul are just two great examples of this. Since you seem to enjoy figuring out melodies and whatnot, I think you might have a good time with their music. Just a suggestion! :)

I don't know if this is what they were going for but what I get from the constant same monotone melody is a drone and how all the world's problems and problems we have created go on and on and we need to change. Please react to People by the 1975, it's bit more heavier, punk kind of, and is a very interesting and impactful song
that thought crossed my mind but i think that's a pretty charitable interpretation of the melody, i'm glad you like it! i'll definitely check out more from this band :)

Hey Jersh if you liked The 1975 I'd recommend you listen to the indie/rock band 'Paramore',
and some of their popular songs/music videos like: Hard Times, That's What you Get, Misery Business, Ain't It Fun, Ignorance, Brick by Boring Brick, Told You So :)
This would definitely fall under Indie music.. can possibly throw rock in front of it but it leans a little more pop. I heard this song a while back once but never caught who artist was. Overall I like this song. The minimalist music with actual instruments 😱 shocking these days. I love the music video and the MJ breakdown. Very 80s vibe. Very much relevant today. Good choice 👌 I approve

Mew! Now thats a band I absolutely adored and listened to daily but they kinda faded away overtime for me and I havent heard from them in a long while. Loved the albums A Triumph for Man, Frengers, And the Glass Handed Kites.

Lol fair enough. I can see it not appealing to a lot of rock fans. Im surprised I enjoyed it as much because I normally despise Indie rock/pop but for one reason or another I enjoyed it. Not familiar with their catalog so can't speak whether I'd like anything else.
