    no latency? I would love to know how much latency you experience, when you loop 1 bar of closed hh, and listen to the recorded loop and the origiional Hh source. It will be amazing if there is no or almost no latency (like with the octatrack). This is what I do with my groove box and my looper, it is similar to what you do: ua-cam.com/video/B__qOq55R_E/v-deo.html

    Ok, now I'm pretty sure I need an additional tool for my mc-101. I been thinking already about Blackbox. 101 is great, has great sounds and features and it's very portable but 4 tracks, 60s sample limitation and weird Rolands design and decision (after 2 months I still don't know for who it was designed for...seriously). Obviously they were inspired by Ableton session view workflow but switching between clips, scenes, fx, etc on 101 while live performance is just misunderstanding...idk maybe I need more time. However for me standalone 101 is best tool for sketch ideas on the couch away from PC. It's just best tool from that. Like I said I been thinking about Blackbox but 101+Blackbox cost about brand new MC-707 so idk now

      Totally agree on your description and view of the 101 haha, There is so much it could for somebody who takes the time and really feels the ins and outs of the box, and could produce some really complex and deep performances I'm sure! Sadly, I'm not one of those people haha, which for me, is why the having the blackbox in this way, really compliments all the sound capabilities the 101 has to offer for me, without needing to 'fiddle about' its somewhat daunting landscape with sub menus and knobs twists.
      As for the cost comparison to the 707, my personal choice would still be the 101 + Blackbox combo, not only is it the SUPER portable power couple, but you also get the benifit of working with two different systems that can compliment each other, Its like being an artist with two different sized brushes, rather than one specific sized expensive brush (if that makes sense?)
      All in all, I love picking up each piece individually for their own unique approaches to music making, but I can say transparently, the 101 will 9/10 be used in tandem with the blackbox at some point in my jam or sound exploration

      @@THATSTREAL I've watched couple of your videos and noticed SP-404. Does it have the same FXs like 101 ? My goal is to be as much dawless as possible and use those tool more like instrument and not programing music. On the other hand I wont be playing live performing etc. I 'd like to have song mode feature. If I get Blackbox could I sequence into it from 101 ? It has 16 tracks correct ? Could I easy use Blackbox as 16 tracks recorder ? Like record 8 bar clip from track 1 (with already applied FXs) to pad/track 1 on Blackbox and so on and then arrange song on Blackbox Or maybe I could use MIDI and sampling track to track ? I just started to learn about dawless music etc. Also my music is more synth based than sample (i mean like sampling vinyls and make MPC-ish beats). I also thinking about Digitakt because of sample ADSR and trig conditions but blackbox small size and portability is another big yay..........I think I started to have GAS symptoms.... do you know what GAS is ?? Gear Acquisition Syndrome ?? :)

      @@dewille-pl Regarding the SP404 question, I believe the MC-101 Has MOST if not ALL the fx that the SP has, and in my experience, the FX that I know they share, sound excellent if not better because of the new cpu power. As for your workflow question regarding the blackbox, you hit the nail on the head! Thats how I've merged my MC101 and blackbox together, using the blackbox as a sequence recorder/looper for the sounds I produce from the 101. I find it to be performative as well as a fast workflow.
      As for the GAS.. I think that effects most if not ALL who dive into the hardware space, there are so many tools that could potentially bring you to the furthest space of sound that you're looking to explore, and in fast time... My philosophy has recently mirrored the feelings one might have towards a classic car they own, It may not be the newest of most fuel efficient, but I want to know my gear in and out, I want to take the journey together and be one with my tools, even if they don't perform or offer the same experience or speedy performance as other tools.. We will get to our destination in time and together in harmony!

      @@THATSTREAL Entire week I've been thinking and browsing net about Blackbox and other sampler solution and I decided for.....an iPad+Koala Sampler. Yes, I know, it's not purest dawless thing but well.... most post I found about Blackbox were negative and many complained about audio cracking bc overloaded CPU. Couple Reddit users returned their units because of problems. Maybe those issues had been already resolved in current firmware or will be but Blacbox is quite expensive and even more expensive in my country bc of tax and custom duty. I realized I can achieve my dawless goal with an iPad and Koala Sampler for fraction of BB price and have a tool for other cool audio apps. I already wanted to get an iOS device bc its far superior for music production than my Android. I'm wondering if MC-101 can sample directly into iPad (via iPad Camera Connection Kit) or audio interface is needed. I know there is an iOS/Apple driver for Roland MC-101 and SD Card could be detected in iOS when connected but I'm not sure if audio could be send via USB to iOS as well. It can be into PC (its recognized as audio interface)

      So far I use my 101 with my verselab to add 4 extra tracks on the mixdown. The 101 is also an awesome tool to have for a sound module if you use an mpc. I just got the blackbox so trying to figure the connectivity first.

    I had the exact same solution for recording midi into the BBox. Record the desired sequence into my Launchpad, then if I liked it, record it into the BBox. Well done. #1010music #Dawless

      Oh man! that sounds really nice! I know the capabilities and implementations of having midi sequence in the blackbox, but i haven't tapped into that space just yet! do you use it mainly for melodies or percussive as well?

    • @AppAxis
      @AppAxis 3 роки тому +1

      @@THATSTREAL yeah, pretty much everything. Mostly the multisample funcionality a building a sound library that I can make a song with by itself later on. I even import Midi Drum and Chord Progression Sequences to chop up later. But I recently had to sell mine, now I took all the work and files from my Bbox and imported into my MC101. Which is my new all in one go to.

    What are you using to connect the audio from the 101 to the blackbox. The only thing turning me off from the blackbox is the connectivity. Are you using some 1/4” to 3.5mm adapter?

    • @3rdRoundM3rcy
      @3rdRoundM3rcy Рік тому

      Black box is the beez neez once u sorta get used to it’s movement style and connectivity is sufficient u just use trs 3.5 for all connections except it does have usb bus power plus u can power or host another unit from a second usb port and it does receive MIDI over usb

    Jam was really, really nice. I'm getting back into electronic music after taking a 15yr break and was looking for some ways to tackle loop x-fading, found this. Not sure if your style is hip hop or if its industrial, but it's *really good* either way. Could listen to this one all day.
