I love their banter. Notice how Prior got emotional the moment Belize begins to rub medicine in his back. It makes you realize how much AIDS patients were likely starved of affection and love.
Also, to everyone commenting on how stereotypical they're acting, there is the moment when Belize is like, "We're acting really politically incorrect right now," and Prior's like, "I'm sick, I get to be politically incorrect if it makes me feel better." The suggestion being that a certain amount of their current manner is to cheer each other up.
Jeffrey Wright was AMAZING as Belize and the besties just being there for each other, comforting one another in the best way possible melts my heart. Justin Kirk was awesome too.
People who are saying they are acting stereotypical have obviously not seen the whole thing. They are doing this to cheer each other up, the way two friends joke about when life is bleak and sad. They aren't generally like that the rest of the series.
It's also likely younger people who are not alive during the height of the AIDS crisis. It was a moment when the national conversation insisted that gay men had earned a torturous death because of their so-called sin. Reveling in your culture when you're in this kind of danger is one of the most life-affirming things that you can do. Kushner knew that, and it's why he won the Pulitzer for this.
They are supposed to be stereotypical as subtitle of the series suggests: " A Gay Fantasia." This is how many expressed and many still express their feminine side. It should be okay for anyone of any gender to act the way the want as long as it does not harm another. This series won more awards than "Roots" and holds the all-time record for awards and nominations. It obviously is good and means a lot to a lot of people. I love it and I am comfortable with either role a person wishes to enact or take on. It's their life and they were born into the bodies, chemicals, and feelings they have. Go "Angels in America!!"
The E.T. moment (3:49) was completely unexpected. That was one great movie moment, when ET and Elliott say farewell. These guys know all the pop culture references.
@@simgegrandson8673 You should watch the movie ET again. When ET is about to leave back to his planet on the returned spaceship, they are facing each other and then exchange that poignant moment. Touching and saying "Ouch."
It's interesting that not everybody sees The Wizard of Oz parallels in certain scenes and parts of the plot. The fever dreams and hallucinations. It's beautifully done. A beautiful play/miniseries.
And "Stella for star" is from a streetcar named desire. Kushner is a literary genius and a national treasure. Like Williams, his writing is like music.
Despite their prolific acting talents & body of work, these two straight men would likely not even get considered for these roles in our current overly PC & sensitive world. Obviously a white guy shouldn’t be playing a Native American in a show/movie like was done in the past, nor should other analogous scenarios happen: e.g. a black guy playing a Japanese guy or vice versa. Should actors be able to play soldiers? It’s a slippery slope & we’ve gone too far. As far as straight & gay men, I think a good actor regardless of his sexual preferences, can easily play a straight, gay or bi roles. In these roles too, an actor can only be as good as the writing. Tony Kushner is thr gay playwright who wrote this so his material is going to be quite authentic & if he gives these actors a stamp of approval for their depictions & work, then I think that is about an ultimate thumbs up as you can get. Again, Jeffrey Wright & Justin Kirk (I Believe thats the actors name IIRC) did a phenomenal job in their roles. It just goes to show that in today’s myopic & inflexible mode of thinking, these two straight actors might not have or rather probably wouldn’t have been cast as Prior or Belize being that these are gay roles. Maybe I’m wrong. It’s controversial. Besides the authenticity aspect of these roles, it also gets into murky areas like these roles being made more open & accessible to not only those who represent it well but also could be among the margibalized groups who deserve greater access & representation after being slowed or blocked by various barriers in the past. Ah, whatever. Any way you cut it, it’s going to be difficult & offensive or unfair to someone. When you open the door for one person or one group often times, you closing it for another. We just have to try our best to be kind & stop trying to be so PC & righteous that we actually become sanctimonious & intolerant which is sadly happening far too often these fdays.🤷♂️🤷
@gissellest333y'all love making shit up and getting mad at it lol. The two most popular male/male shows right now have straight actors in the lead roles...
Lol so Christopher Walken, Nick Offerman, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Hiddleston are all gay now? Because they played queer men in the 2020s with tons of love shown for their projects. Jake Gyllenhaal was just cast as Bechdel's gay dad in the upcoming Fun Home film adaptation. Sounds like you're just looking for something to be outraged about 😂
I love their banter. Notice how Prior got emotional the moment Belize begins to rub medicine in his back. It makes you realize how much AIDS patients were likely starved of affection and love.
Jeffrey Wright is one of my favorite actors. Completely deserved his Emmy for this. What an entrance. ❤️
Ugh ik it was gorgeous :D
"My jaw aches at the memory" is the funniest line from AIA!
Ayoooo
"And would you deny me this little solace? Betray my concupiscence to Florence Nightengale's storm troopers?" What a wonderful line.
Justin Kirk and Jeffrey Wright nailed this performance. Their chemistry is phenomenal and their delivery of the performance is unbeatable!

If Angels in America would have been a featured film, these two would have won the academy award for this scene. No doubt.
Every actor in this film who **doesn't** have multiple Oscars, **should** have.
Nailed it!

He makes me cry poor Pryor. Everytime. I've watched this so many times.
Jeffrey Wright’s delivery is perfection!
Sometimes I just wake up thinking about this scene. It's so well done, the wit stretched thin over the fear.
I absolutely love Jeffrey Wright, he completely owned this role and was more than deserving of the Emmy.
Jeffrey was legendary in this role!! 💘
The Part when he tripin' Al Pacino about heaven and hell in hospital, that Is brutal.....

Great comment. Hello from the future.
The E.T. moment (3:49) was completely unexpected. That was one great movie moment, when ET and Elliott say farewell. These guys know all the pop culture references.
what reference are you talking about??
@@simgegrandson8673 You should watch the movie ET again. When ET is about to leave back to his planet on the returned spaceship, they are facing each other and then exchange that poignant moment. Touching and saying "Ouch."

Jeffrey Wright won both the Tony and Emmy awards playing Belize. Well deserved.
I think this is my favorite scene in the whole movie. Second being Louis reciting the Kaddish.
Belize is the real angel in this story.
It's interesting that not everybody sees The Wizard of Oz parallels in certain scenes and parts of the plot. The fever dreams and hallucinations. It's beautifully done. A beautiful play/miniseries.
But….. the point is…… they aren’t necessarily hallucinations!!!!
Only two films got pulled from my film course because of complaints: American History x and Angels in America. Too raw for most.
Wow that is sad. Two awesome films that speak to the human condition
I love love love this series!!!
"You're just a Christian martyr" Tennessee Williams, Glass Menagerie LOL
And "Stella for star" is from a streetcar named desire. Kushner is a literary genius and a national treasure. Like Williams, his writing is like music.
The art of acting and the script. Perfection.
But this is true sisterhood.
So over homophobes with their hate!
The most amusing part about homophobes is that some turn out to be gay themselves lol
For anyone saying they’re stereotypical, it’s worth noting that Tony Kushner who wrote Angels in America is gay
And it was set 40 years ago - what is stereotypical behavior for a community today wasn't necessarily the same for previous generations.
JEFFREY WRIGHT WOW!!!
BELIZE SIIIISSS!
Be with your partner; thick and thin.
To do otherwise spells disaster and heart break.
"I'm sick, I get to be politically incorrect, it makes me feel better" :D
What was he watching on the tv?
bernard! oh you! haha
What movie is he watching?
The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952) Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner .
Im gona say from hetro mindset their bros and that threre was even a no homo in there..just a person who cared about another.
"My jaw aches at the memory" isn't exactly a no homo
What? Andy gay? No!
Ghaaay

Can these gays get any more stereotypical !
Can you fuck off?
:)
Yes they are so very stereotypical... and we love them...
Speak for yourself! I like masculine, normal dudes
karmalevel He's saying "love them" as people... you idiot. Not in a sexual way.
Just feels fake
