- Jon Anderson has burst back on the scene with a new album that everyone is talking about. “True” is a true collaboration between Anderson and The Band Geeks, who Anderson discovered on a UA-cam video playing “Heart of the Sunrise”. Comprised on a pro team of musicians led by Richie Castellano, The Geeks have helped Anderson explore the expansive rock band approach of Yes more fully than anything else in his solo discography.
In this brand new interview, conducted on the eve of the release of “True”, Sonic Perspectives’ Scott Medina explores how the songwriting came together on the new album, who contributed what, and some stories of what it’s like creating with Anderson. Castellano was also joined in the interview by keyboard wizard Christopher Clark, who was part of the core team writing and arranging the material on “True”.

Hats off to The Band Geeks. It's a wonderful album!
I’m a huge Yes fan from the 70s and have all their early albums which I listened to hundreds of times, so I know their music backwards. The first time I heard The Band Geeks play some of these songs I was totally flabbergasted, their precision was outstanding. The new album is amazing and the comment I have been submitting on various posts is that this new album is more Yes than Yes right now. Simply beautiful! Today I heard Richie mention Syracuse which triggered so many memories: I grew up in Cortland NY … so it touched me that these great musicians play just 20 miles away from where I lived. Looking forward to hearing their next album … 💯
Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks have delivered the best “Yes Album” since Magnification! I will always love Steve Howe and his band is really great but Jon Anderson has shown us what a “True” Yes record is! Checkmate!
Love The Band Geeks. Just listened to True and it's amazing... So happy we have a band that can pull this off so well. Hoping they will play the UK really soon 😎
The energy is what stands out most. You’ve taken the embers and reignited the flame. Keep it going please. It’s the music of my youth reborn and it’ll have impact on everyone that discovers it anew. Not only is the legacy honored, it is expanded. Bravo!
Very well explained!!😊
I saw Jon and the Band Geeks in july and they were Fantastic, the best Yes sound I have heard since the Union Tour.
Thank you Richie! You guys seem to have no ego. You are wonderful musicians and arrangers and thank you for helping Jon live happy and productive. The new album is off the charts, that is because it is not a copy of yes but an extension of Jon. The music is awesome, and you guys nailed it. Thank you for all the TIME you put in, I can hear it. You made me an old man at 68 very happy, Please make more albums. I bought the blue vinyl.
Great interview I’m really hoping this creative collaboration between band geeks and Jon continues in to the future they are made for each other YES
I am so happy that Jon found Richie and the rest of the Geeks when he did. I can't help but think either Jon was born to early or The Geeks were born to late. But better late than never. What a great album and it's really refreshing to hear how great tracks are created by great musicians, despite the obvious age differences. True is truly inspired music which doesn't happen too much these days.
I so appreciate the energy and love you bring to the Yes music. Last year I felt transported to the concerts of the 70s, and I was one of those giving standing ovations at the shows! It was a thrill to hear Gates live again! And I appreciate that the new album is a true collaboration between you and Jon. It shows! I really love the album and the songs are getting stuck in my head! I hope the work between you all continues for a long time. Shine On! 😊❤️
This is one of the most interesting interviews I have seen in a long time.
"There's no faking that voice."
Ritchie, you're a great storyteller as well as a World Class musician! Love & continued great success to you all❣
The album is awesome. Jon is still sounding great. Richie is fast becoming one of my favorite musicians.
This was a great interview. Thanks for all the behind the scenes stories. Very interesting and exciting. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Richie for always telling the story from the heart and in a VERY entertaining way! And Chris for the laughs and being the color commentator! Great album guys!
WOW WOW WOW! What a fantastic walkthrough!! So wonderful to listen to how TRUE this constellation has come to be. All those small things that made it happen. It all feels like it is meant to be. No hesitation.
Just forward. Make it happen. Stick to it and no stop.
What a God’s grace collaboration!
Now I have to listen to True again to “endorse”all the stuff you mentioned ❤️🤩❤️
Rock on 🤘
IMHO and I have been a fan and seen YES around 70 times. Jon is YES and now You with Jon are YES. Please stay together or come to Fort Wayne Ind. I saw Jon's last band there. I want to see you guys. You sound so much like the YES I remember. Thank You
This is an amazing interview! I loved the Band Geeks from the first moment seeing them with Jon last year but I love them even more after hearing this. You guys have a lifelong fan in me. All of you made magic on stage and also on this incredible album! THANK YOU!!!
What a great peek behind the curtain. Fascinating!
Fascinating insight into the process of how this stunningly brilliant album came into being. Jon is astonishing at 79 and Richie and the Geeks awesome. It's the best Yes music I've heard in 20 plus years. Great video. It is Yes no matter what the diehards would say. Thanks to you, Richie and Chris - and Jon of course for the inspiration.
Awesome album- thank you all 🤘😎❤️
Excellent insightful interview with Richie and Chris. Learned so much about the recording process. Fascinating to hear about the drive of Jon to produce something special. It really is!
Richie, I hope you always stay this content and kind no matter how much higher your profile as a musicians rises. Cause you guys are definitely on the rise. I truly hope all your dreams are coming true and the doors keep opening for you.
Fantastic album. Please make more.😎🤘🏻
I love you guys! The album is excellent, a real grower. Better with each listen. Thank you for your explanation of how things were mede. And as I was watching this I got a little hint. It was like watching Waynes world grown up. Chris reminds me of older Garth❤😂
Saw the show in Denver. I LOVED it!! I have been around music my entire life and was truly impressed with the performance! Jon and the Band Geeks were in excellent form (and nuance)!! I Will plan to see them again if given the opportunity!! I am considering this show a bucket list event. Full Stop.
Great interview. The album is truly impressive. One thing I'll point out is not only does it have the obvious strong Yes vibes, but it also in places resembles some of the best moments of Jon's solo work.
Great Album guys 👏
As a former 40 year Memphian I love the modern Sun Studio shirt. Oh and yeah. The Geeks + JA is awesome.
So happy for Richie and the band. Surreal experience for sure. Great album.
Incredible Interview. Really unique and so inspiring. Congratulation to the Band Geeks and Jon. An exemple of how criativity should happen.
Band geeks are such a blast to listen to. Such enthusiasm and detail in their approach to the new material as well as the old.
Great interview I been a YES Fan since the beginning, I have one tattoo & it’s the YES insignia from The Tales Album, I saw you guys in Peach Tree City, Ga. last month & I’ve seen YES, ARW, Jon & Rick solo many times & I can tell you that you guys are thrilling to listen too for all YES FANS!!! Thank-you for giving YES fans an album we’ve always dreamed of but didn’t think would ever happen especially after the way Steve treated Jon, Trevor & Rick at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, thank-you Band Geeks from the bottom of YES Fan’s Hearts. Thank-you Scott for an awesome interview.
GOD BLESS YOU!!!
All of the Geeks are superb musos and really humble. I love that. Big fan.
Its wonderful, much better than YES!! Thank you guys!!
Whatever comes next....we are there with you all!
YES!!!
Absolutely Love what you guys are doing! Chris, you are such an inspiration!! TYTY!
I hear the Keith Emerson influence!
Great interview, and the Band Geeks are so generous, they deserve all that love
Great job guys! From what I heard so far the new album sounds great! Perhaps you want to convince Jon to reissue the album with a better cover with some cool artwork.
Great interview. Thanks. If the album does well (which it seems to be), hopefully that will pave the way for more work from these guys.
True is just fantastic. Can't say enough just how good this album is
You guys are amazing something’s are so meant to be and this is a sign of programed evolution thank you so much for making my dream come TRUE ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Anderson is YES
A great effort guys! Thanks!
A great group of guys personally and musically.
Is Yes energy! Wou
I ordered the newest CD from Jon Anderson-“True”& Merchbar. Will I regret it ?
Brilliant!
Just ordered the new lp..thx
It really is the most incredible album.
Great insights. Great new album
FANTASTIC album
I was hoping the interviewer would ask about the strange album cover of TRUE.
It didn't seem respectful to go there. We already know that it was a photo shoot with Jon and his daughter, and it's Jon's prerogative to do what he wants to do for the album cover. I didn't imagine the Geeks would be able to say anything more about it, and it'd only put them in an awkward position.
The cover sucks, but the music rules.
May the Angels guide my Gold vinyl, and shade the USPS truck from the Florida sun.
@41:15 slight amendment to this statement. No gospel singers on any Yes tracks. HOWEVER, there was a gospel choir on the “Three Ships” album.
Richie and Co: you are (how many times is this guy going to say this?) living my dream! Rock guys!
Good catch! Love 3 Ships!
@@ScottAMedina actually, I was listening to one of the songs (I was driving so I couldn’t pay attention to the name of the track) and there was a little musical ‘quotation’ from the song “Animation” which I thought was really really cool.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏
👏👏👏👏👏
❤ HAHA "I GOT A SURPRISE CALL from Jon too in early 2008 so Ive been blessed also to know how it feels 😂. By chance he saw my computer animation montage of Roger Dean's album art that I sent to him through MySpace and asked me to create 2D EFX for Stage Projections for possible Live solo shows of songs he'd written. During a wonderfully surreal brunch together in LA I was tongue tied with awe😮. 😢 Sadly he took ill not long after and the band fired him before their reunion so all the preliminary work was never finalized. But its a strange head spinner having Jon contact.you out of the blue😮😅😊 Dean animations > ua-cam.com/video/mJLfoMNl_I4/v-deo.htmlsi=NzWgagnxZ7j1ZjQn
