Due to the audio signals are a low amplitude ones, the rectifier diodes in the inputs may be 1N4148 ones; to turn this bargraph VU most sensitive, it´s possible reduce the voltage reference (wich is connected to the pin 3 of the I.C.) by using a "pull up" (to the "+B") 1 kohm resistor and another 1N4148 (or 4002, 4007, etc.) diode, whose catode is connected to the ground: then, the voltage reference will be 700 mV instead of the power supply one.
Hello, the voltage supply is 12V on your circuit diagram but I guess that you supplied 9V with battery. Is it OK to use 12V DC 1 A adapter with this setup?
(For stereo or even more channel operation) - It is a shame that the LM3915 is not worth much money because the way I see it is why cannot one chip be multiplexed to sample multiple channels and write to a fabricated display bus of some sort? They probably did do this back in the 80s.

The video shows the lowest LEDS remain dimly lit in dot mode. Adding a 10k resistor across pin 1 of the IC and V+ will correct this.

The sunglight cannot reach the LDR. Maybe this is the reason that your light is not off during the day.
