    Snow Summit's Miracle Mile mountain bike trail has intimidated me for multiple seasons, and I never want to ride it. This year I plan get more comfortable with this trail. Today, I show a full-pull of my third and most recent run down this black diamond trail. Watching the footage helps me get more familiar with the trail, and this in turn gives me more confidence to hit it when I'm up at the bike park. I am starting to actually want to ride Miracle Mile now. :)
    If you're in the same boat as me, I hope this full-pull on Miracle Mile helps you out.

    I'll say this, you don't need a DH rig for Miracle Mile, but it's currently the one trail at Snow Summit where a DH bike could come in handy. I'm guessing the new trail, 10-Ply, will be worthy of a DH rig. I'm riding Miracle Mile on a trail bike, and while there are definitely trail bike lines you can take through the rock gardens, I found that my Bronson did well on the straighter, more DH-style lines. Get after it! 🤘🏽

    Nice run Alan. For some reason alot of people don't like Miracle Mile but that used to be my favorite trail before I was able to clear everything on Westridge. Miracle Mile actually becomes more smooth the faster you go. You're doing great just keep hitting it. I can't wait for 10 ply I heard it's gonna be way more gnarly than MM.

    Alan would you say you ride your suspension pretty plush, or more on the stiffer side ??

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  4 роки тому +1

      That's an interesting question. The simple answer is that I ride my suspension plush and stiff. Let me explain.
      I recently reworked my suspension setup with the help of a coach (and Fox suspension tester). And I learned that it's better to have your suspension supportive (i.e. stiffer) on the lip of a jump but active (plush) when landing. It's better to have your suspension supportive in a turn and active through a rock garden.
      So you want your suspension to be both plush and stiff. "Plush" when you need to be moving through the travel and "stiff" when you want your bike to hold you up.
      So I don't think about it as "plush" or "stiff" but rather as active and supportive. But how the heck do you get both? That's what all the damping knobs are for. With the correct sag (air pressure) in the fork and shock, you use HSR/LSR, HSC/LSC to make it both active and supportive. Note, the right sag is a huge factor!
      I know that probably doesn't help, but the truth is, modern suspension is sophisticated. Suspension engineers work to make it so you don't have to choose between "stiff" and "plush". Learning how to set the right pressures and understanding how the damping circuits actually affect the ride takes some noodling.

    • @dev_IL666
      @dev_IL666 4 роки тому

      @@mtb_alan man, I actually understood that, but yes it it hard with all the knobs lol. But I get it I guess I just have to mess around with them even more. To find that right spot I guess. Thanks for answering me back bro.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  4 роки тому

      No problem. If you haven't already, start by making sure your sag is set correctly. From what I gathered from Kevin Aiello, my coach, it seems like most people are running have too little pressure in their shocks. As a note, there are manufacturer guidelines for air pressure and damping settings. These are a solid place to start. And keep in mind, that those settings assume proper positioning and weight distribution on the bike. For instance, if I'm riding tentative and positioned too far back on the bike, I find that the front skips around and the back feels harsh, but with a more aggressive stance, the bike settles down and cuts through like a hot knife through butter.

      Other trails to try: Turtle is fun. There are also trails off the backside of the park, Fall Line and Pirates-Plumbers-Fern. Make sure to look up how to pedal back to the park if you rode those.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  5 років тому

      Yo. Thanks!
      Once I have the bike suspension tuned, I pretty much use the same settings for everything: trail, bikepark, etc.
      I do increase my tire pressure by a couple pounds at Summit because I'm generally rolling into stuff a lot faster than when I'm at Skypark.
      The main suspension settings I change are in my meat suspension. That is to say, I ride a bit differently at Summit because everything is bigger and longer there...faster. So I'm more relaxed.
      Also, I rarely ride Turtle, aka braking-bump hell.
