- Let's read a poem in Ukrainian! This poem will be easy to understand even for beginners! But in these simple words the poem could show an incredible meaning.
Vasyl Symonenko is a famous Ukrainian poet of tge middle of 20th century. His talent was gorgeous, but his live very short. Only 28 years... He could live longer if not for "the help" of Soviets.

You should bring out an annotated book of the best Ukrainian poetry for learners of Ukrainian. Memorizing poems is a good way to learn a language.

I loved this video. What the USSR did to the intelligentsia in general and particularly many of these poets is infuriating beyond words.
Цей вірш дуже вплинув на мене. Читаючи це, ніби він писав мені особисто. У мене було багато труднощів у житті, і я багато разів був на межі повністю здатися. Я ставлюся до його слів, тому що вони нагадують мені НЕ здаватися. Нам дається стільки часу, щоб відчути життя. Ми повинні максимально використати це, поки можемо. Дуже дякую, що поділилися цим прекрасним віршем. А тепер вибачте, поки я витру численні сльози зі своїх очей. Слава Україні і всій її вражаючій красі, народу, мистецтву, мові і духу. З любов'ю, з Америки.

Before today, I haven't heard of Symonenko. Now, I like this poem a lot! It's a good way of telling the reader (or listener, in this case) to take the opportunity to live their lives. To use an old Latin-language proverb that made it into English, _carpe diem_ ("seize the day"). Thanks for the video!

Thank you for introducing me to an artist I didn't know before 🥰 The poem is beautiful, it made me cry...I think I needed to hear it! And poems are a great way to learn a language, as are songs - this kind of video definitely suits me.
Your colleague from Let's Learn Ukrainian has produced two videos based on two of Shevchenko's poems, going a lot more in depth than you do here, analysing the text line by line. I enjoy those but with your video, I was pleased to see that just by watching twice I was able to pick up not only on the meaning, but also use of language. It feels SO good to appreciate the synergy of sound, vocabulary, grammar, syntax, meaning and emotion in a language I hardly know...thank you for giving my brain the space to get there. I agree, poetry is magical. Normally the biggest problem is to find the poem that will be clear for the students of A1-B1 levels, because pieys like to play with more advanced words, or they wrote too many years ago and the language has changed already. That is why I thought that actually this poem is perfect - so much sense in such simple words... I will keep looking for more poems like this and we will have many videos about Ukrainian literature with time 💙
