Excellent tutorial. Lots of videos tell us which buttons to press, but you always explain why we're pressing them, and provide cool examples. There must be a million blender tuts on youtube. This is easily one of the best. Many Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Paxi may comrade, you are far more better teacher than Blender Guru or CG Geek, you're showing slowly and in details. And you don't rush like two of them
I agree with you. Blender Guru seems he is always eating chocolate when speaking. He seems to think that Blender users (all of them) are from UK and Australia. Sardi Pax, you are the number one.
Waw it tooks a while to understand all tricks and tools explained in this tutorial, for me this is one of the most important tutorial i've ever seen , thanx you a lot and keep on doing the good job !
Thank you for creating this tutorial. It's very clear, succinct and extremely helpful. Definitely one of the best! Looking forward to watching more of your tutorials!
Your vids are a perfect compliment to the BlenderGuru's stuff. I love that you really explained each of the node's parameters, inputs and outputs as you went, focusing on the whys and wherefores, rather than just racing toward a final render. Kudos @ U , fine sir!
Thnx for your usefull tutorials , i'm quitte new to blender , so it's takes some time to soak it all in , so I'm making Sreenshots for later use .... greetz
So, I've watched a few blender tutorials that their makers called "for beginners", but they ended up with a 20+ node setup and I was lost. Thanks for bringing the basics in a nice video that shows what those bloody things actually do.
I always tell my self after watching one of your tutorials " that IS what should be called a tutorial", fast yet accurate and straight to the point. I just want to tell you : your work, sir, is worth respect as much as gratitude.
Excellent tutorial! You are by far one of the most helpful and lucid instructors I have ever come across on Blender. Until now nodes have always seemed inaccessible to me but you have de-mystified and persuaded me of the major benefits of using nodes. You not only show how nodes are indispensable but, also that they can be easy to use. Please continue making tutorials. Thank you very much. I love your professional matter of fact style completely devoid of any hint of "look at how smart I am" vanity. Very refreshing and enlightening. You have definitely raised the bar.
Hello: Thank you for your time, looking to learn how to create labels, scratches, blemishes, bump maps, etc. I found your tutorials. Excellent. Also your sensitivity towards art.
yes I agree, this is one of the best Blender tuts I've seen. Wow. One of the things I don't understand is blender's UV mapping WRT (specifically!) nodes, and when you mapped the cube, you glossed right over it. When using nodes, it's hard for me to understand where/how the UV mapping is being applied to whatever vertices, and which map. I went into nodes and tried fooling around with the UV map node, but as usual Blender's documentation is always (a) wrong, and (b) terse, and (c) missing.
Need help. When i press new to add a new material, it doesn't come up with the Diffuse BSDF and the Material Output. It only comes up with Material and Output. There is also no Shaders option.
I've just started using blender and I've troubles with understanding nodes, thank you so much for making this video, it's an amazing piece of information on nodes for a beginner like me, please keep on making more tutorials like this clearly defining the basics and additional information, i also love how you differentiate the much more advanced part of the videos and introduce the most common ones and showing how to use them, keep making more please!
Thank you so much for the video, could you make a video of how to properly setup the lighting for a simple rendering like the one you make at the end of the video :D!?
Excellent tutorial as are all of yours so far (think this the sixth one of yours I've viewed) and I would like to say thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge :)
This was a very good tutorial for me. It was basic, stuck to one point, did not get too sidetracked, and went at a reasonable pace. Of course slower is always better for me.
+SolarTara, also noticed that in my earphones. Could be rain? Sardi, which Modifier did you use for that ;-) ? Just pulling your leg. Great tut, btw, as all of yours are!
The blender default color for node name is a really bad design decision since on a dark grey i found it very hard to read, i change mine in theme so they are really clear to see.
Awesome tutorial! I've been trying figure out nodes for afew days now and your tutorial is by far the most helpful for beginners as myself. I've watched tutorials by the leading names in blender and like I said your helped me the best! Thanks keep'm comin!
Thanks a lot, your approach is well presented. I have really appreciated your tutorial, which is synthetic and going to thekey points. Congratulations :)
I am working out a Flag Animation within a Photograph. You mentioned in the tutorial about simulation of materials thickness for light passing through it. Thin cloth lets light shine through more. While Thick cloth lets less light through. What node setup would you recommend?
Scott Bolam Hi, while it is possible to connect the transmissivity of the material to the thickness of the cloth geometry, I would suggest simply adding a gamma node and setting the value slightly over 1 to darken a version of the image or colour. You can then plug that into a translucence shader and the output of that into an add shader combining it with the diffuse.
Hi I'm stuck on changing the the node visual on screen back to 3D so that i can split the screen. Can anyone help me please. It's driving me crazy. I get to this point and no further.
Hi, at the bottom left of the window, just above the timeline of you have that open, you should see an icon of 2 boxes joined by a line, click that and you can choose what to have the window display. Select 3D View to return to the default.
I love watching and rewatching your videos. Theres always some tip that include to help. The one thing I am trying to do but, not having much luck in finding out how to do but, when you use a glass shader on a cube. It generally looks like its transparent but, lacks the gloss that you naturally have when looking at glass. It tends to look like a matte glass like what they may have for picture frames. What can be done to gloss up the surface of a flat edge? I know that lighting and objects reflecting are a big part of it looking good but, it doesnt seem real in a lot of situations. I know some people actually get some great results. Whats your take?
+Creative Studio Hi, there are many different approaches to representing glass. The default Glass shader is a good quick one that conatains all the basics of glass shaders but with minimal options. Remember though that you can select different refractive/reflective options in the glass shader (CGX, Beckman etc) and one of those may suit you better. Also, make sure roughness is at 0 if you want full gloss of something like .001 for a very slight sheen. The Refractive index will also affect the apparent brightness of any reflections as will how light/dark whatever is showing through the glass. Think of windows on a house, you easily see reflections from outside in daylight because inside is relatively dark. From the inside though you will rarely see reflections unless it is darker outside. Finally, if none of that is enough, you can build you own glass shader with a Transparent and Glossy shader combined with a mix shader controlled by Layer Weight. If you need refraction you can also add in a Refraction node. Now you can control each element independently.
Excellent tutorial.
Lots of videos tell us which buttons to press, but you always explain why we're pressing them, and provide cool examples.
There must be a million blender tuts on youtube. This is easily one of the best.
Many Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Andrew.
another greatfull viewer :D Sardi you rocks
Yeah I like your tutorials, do you think you can make something like this using the principle shader, pretty please :)
Without videos like this, I would still be in the "stone age". So really thanks for taking the trouble to make this.
You're really good at explaining. I took lots of notes on this. Thank you!
Paxi may comrade, you are far more better teacher than Blender Guru or CG Geek, you're showing slowly and in details. And you don't rush like two of them

Absolutely astonishing how you remember all this information
Great tutorial!
Thanks!

I've seen many tutorials to understand various sections of noding. yours is the best. thank you sir, this really helped me a big time! :)
🙂🙂🙂No matter how old this tutorial, I have learned much about node compositing here. Thank you for making this tutorial.
Glad you found it useful :)
Great tutorial, You make it look easy!
Thank you.
The Man! Thank you.
Awesome tutorial. Thanks a lot
Two in one, thank you so much i appreciate it.

I'm not afraid! I'll...I'll do this!
we are afraid , but, we can do this . .
Thanks for the tutorial, learnt a lot today
Sardi Pax these are really good tutorials, super helpful man thank you much for the uploads, very well explained.
awesome tutorial, very helpful! thank you
Fantastic explanation of nodes and their sub elements.
Great tutorial, being an hobbyist, i would usually ignore these nodes wherever i saw them, never knew it was this straightforward. thanks
I Second the other enthusiastic responses - a fantastic, intelligent, informative tutorial, a perfect intro to nodes. Thanks!
IOR is index of refraction, I think you were saying reflection
Very good tutorial. You say just enough about each feature, and nothing more.
Thanks for your excellent tutorial that has helped med to understand nodes.
one of the best on this topic
Hi everybody, how can asus R9-290 works on GPU on Blender? At Blender system setting I cannot change CPU to GPU. help me please. tnx

Exceptional Explanation Of Nodes - Now I Have A Better Understanding On How To Use Them - Great Job.
Very concise and informative tutorial! No fumbling around, no distractions, just the facts. Thanks!
You are by far one of the best tutors, thank you for speaking clearly and at a reasonable pace. Keep it up.
This is just packed with goodness. Gonna have to go through this a few times, I'm sure, next few times w/Blender open, playing along.
N.B
For the sky texture to work, make sure "background" is showing in "Surface"
.
this video won you a new subscriber, even with what sounds like someone practicing for a drumline in the background.
Need help. When i press new to add a new material, it doesn't come up with the Diffuse BSDF and the Material Output. It only comes up with Material and Output. There is also no Shaders option.
Sardi Pax Excellently, and so understandably explained. This is exactly the right thing for beginners like me. Thanks a lot!
Excellent tutorial. And to the point. So glad i discovered your channel. Greetings from Greece.
very long & complicated it should be in small steps, but still interesting and can be tagged for future reference
Great Tutorial... Very helpful. Thanks for sharing with us ;)

Great tutorial! Thank you for all your hard work creating these marvelous videos.
Amazing!!The best node tutorial ever!!
Would it be possible for you to help us all by increasing the system dpi index so we can read and follow a larger text display tutorial?
Thank you, but it sounds like you're talking next to a snare drum. The metal beads vibrating to you voice
+SolarTara, also noticed that in my earphones. Could be rain?
Sardi, which Modifier did you use for that ;-) ?
Just pulling your leg. Great tut, btw, as all of yours are!
Great Tutorial. Thanks very much.
#6:23 "3 parameters, its a matrix" - you probably mean its a vector.
when select New Material i don't get the nodes, why?
+Michael Hansen Hi, make sure you are in Cycles render mode (button top middle).
+Sardi Pax aaa! thank u so much! loooove ur vids btw :)
Whoa, how did you make that intro music?
You just made a whole detailed bottle in less than 20 seconds FFS...
awesome video Sardi Pax.
we need Update part 2.
This is very useful, thanks for that amazing tutorial.
I'm a beginner, but this tutorial has taught me so so so much already.
And again very good tutorial that teaches me something new - thank you for it

Spot on. Thank you for your time in posting this tutorial.
As usual, clear, useful and clever...thanks a lot.
GOOD MORNING THIS IS HARD TO FIGURE OUT SOMETIMES BUT STILL GOOD TUTORIAL

Hi Sardi, thank you so much for sharing this, which is really helpful for me to learn nodes!!
My pleasure Chester :)
As I am going along and using nodes for the Item I am rendering my object seems to be all distorted and filled with black specks throughout it
+Austin .davis Hi, it may be that you are only rendering a few samples (under render settings), you may need to increase that to 25 or more.
cheers, mate:) I can safely say you got me hooked to blender with your videos. thanks
Thanks MM.
This is exactly the tutorial I was looking for, amazing thanks!
Glad you found it useful Zandre :)
Thanks for helping me :D
You are pretty awesome! Thanks very much to your time to create all these incredible toturials!
Thanks Terry :)
