  • Biography on Gaston D'Orléans - The Brother Of Louis XIII: Gaston of France, Duke of Orléans was born on April 25, 1608 in the Chateau de Fontainebleau and died on February 2, 1660 in Blois Castle. He was a son of King Henry IV and Maria De Médicis, and thus a prince from the French royal house of Bourbon and the younger brother of King Louis XIII.
    Gaston carried the titles Duke of Anjou (1608-1640), Duke of Orléans and Chartres and Count of Blois (from 1626), Duke of Montpensier and Saint-Fargeau (from 1627), Duke of Valois (from 1630), Duke of Alençon and Baron von Amboise (from 1646).

    Love learning more about Louis XIII and his family as Louis XIII is my favorite French monarch. Incidentally, Gaston has also been featured on the small screen in the BBC series "The Musketeers" playing an antagonist to Anne of Austria in the final season.

      @@TheKingsofFrance we all know about Monseur and Cavalier Lorain and Louis XIII we know about Louis Burbon the natural son of Louis XIV but do you know any other LGBT French nobles (my personal favorites are not even French actually) Maria Christina the 5th daughter of Maria Teresa and Isabella of Parma (the so called Orpheus and Eurydice)

    Gaston certainly was busy.
    I can see why the Cardinal didn't want him to remarry so his niece had a chance to be Queen but you'd think Louis XIII would have married him off just in case he never produced an heir.

I've got an epic muddle of linked-up family trees of Spain, Portugal & France, & ofc I ended up at the poor old Habsburgs, & discovered Philip V was the guy who eventually got the throne after they crashed & burned.

      Upon birth he was given the title Duke of Anjou, so he'd probably have kept that title his entire life.

      If you are referring to Anne Marie d'Orléans or “Le Grande Mademoiselle”, yes, I belive that at some point in time there were talks for her to marry her first cousin, Louis XIV
