- i don't need clickbait. i went to go get my haircut and i came home with 80 turtles.
please check your local parks and wildlife department with one simple phone call next time you see turtles being sold on the side of the road. the game warden can easily be sent out to check the vendor and their legitimacy.

Seriously though I found an ADULT red eared slider (I can confirm, dinner plate size) in a movie theatre parking lot who someone had run over. She was still alive somehow, like the car had somehow taken off part of her shell but left her organs untouched? Grace of God I guess. I took her to a rehab center and I got to see her released :)

I was on a walk one day (I live in Texas like Taylor) and found a red eared slider in the middle of the street on a really busy road. I went to pick it up when traffic was clear and it was over at least 16 inches. I fed it and made sure it was okay before releasing it in the duck pond back behind my house. It's so sad to know that people do this kind of thing to helpless animals just because times are tough.
Jake I know. Actually, I have another turtle story, too. I'm down in Mississippi so they're EVERYWHERE. I was at school in pe class, and we were outside on the track. Well I found this baby turtle out there that was about as big as a bottlecap, so probably like Taylor's turtles. So I was in second period, and the coach just mentions how he feels so bad for the turtle because the last time he'd seen a baby turtle (a week earlier) the guys in third period had STOMPED IT TO DEATH. So I'm not in PEETA or anything but I'm still exactly like Taylor when it comes to caring about animals, so I picked the little guy up and carried him around with me all day and released him at the creek behind my house that afternoon. Everyone in my grade was going YOU ECOTERRORIST YOU KILLED THE TURTLE and that kinda crap, well they all shut up when I actually found him about a month later when he'd grown quite a bit, I'd been tossing some fruit and krill from the pet store out into the creek for him in case he couldn't find stuff, since he stuck around, he found the food and started coming up to me on his own. I brought him to school with me, and the teachers were so amused they let me carry him around for just one more day.
That's amazing that youre able to keep taking care of it! Im the same way about wanting to protect animals. People can be so cruel especially about small animals from the wild, Ive seen people trying to catch and sell corn snakes for a ton of profit and its really disappointing.

Also, Nicole said his permit even stated that the turtles have to be over 4 inches and told him that it was illegal yet he still kept going and didn't do anything like put the turtles somewhere else or pack up and go home.

She needs to make a video like this explaining why people should not buy hermit crabs either. Hermies also require a lot of care and go though horrendous things before being sold just so they can have a horrible short life. I keep taking them in from people who don’t want them anymore because they’re not fun pets and people were not aware that they can live for a long time but most are brought to me after they’ve had health issues and others kept with them have died, it’s very hard to deal with taking in animals that are already sick or dying, specially since you know that even if they survive they can’t just be reintroduced to their natural environment.

My cousins had a baby red eared slider turtle they got for $1 and kept in a little bucket in the backyard. when they moved out of state they needed to get rid of her so I took her home. I gave her the most massive beautiful turtle pond and she is now ten years old! These turtles are not easy and not cheap, but they're just the best.

i got my red eared slider turtle from a lady who ran out of room for them (she had like 5). releasing them in the wild is illegal where i live as they are not a native species and become invasive so we have had her for 14 years in a fenced pond in our yard but she's somehow learned to get around the fence and on sunny days i find her basking next to the 2 cats on the porch.

@@ron7941 You are in for a poopy treat sooner or later. I ended up exiling my adult sliders to the outdoor pool for the summer a few years ago XD. Funny enough, they refuse to go back to the aquarium now and have been outdoor even in winter now. If you plan to keep your turtles indoor, please, please, please invest in a proper filter, it gets absolutely nasty if you do it on a budget, lol.

A lot of people are upset that she was harsh to the family, but I would rather their feelings be hurt than 80 turtles go to homes that dont know how to care for them. It is illegal, and it was right of her to point that out to them. Especially if he was just out jail, I dont think its totally rude of her to confront him. He still got paid, so she did him a favor.

In New York a guy was selling turtles when I was younger and my mom said we can get it if he was there tmr....the next day he was and we got a turtle. It's still alive til this day...it's a red ear slider turtle

I'm so glad you did this awareness video. No one cares about Turtles. There the 1# most neglected animal in the world. That's why I started my rescue center years ago. It's disgusting how many sick and poorly cared for Turtles there are in the world. No one ever does research. People... turtles need a heat lamp, uvb lamp, ATLEAST 5 inches of water, a basking dock, a filter, a heater, 29 gallon tank for a hatchling minimum. Do not use pebbles. River Rocks larger then there head are safe. I did see a few you have that aren't healthy and need medications asap. But I'm glad you got them all. There a lot happier now. bluebehr yes. And that was not the first time either. Many people like to play with there turtles and they end up DIEING due to multiple different reasons. It's honestly unbelievable and I wish people would stop selling and buying turtles. There already invasive in multiple places and no one ever does enough research.

hello, can you please help me? Nine years ago a classmate gave me a turtle for my birthday (we weren't prepared for her at all since it was a suprise!). She's been living with us for nine years now and i love her alot. her tank is really basic though. she has water and a platform where she can sit in the sun. she doesn't have anything on the bottom of her tank or no plants, is that a problem? she's been doing well these past nine years, but this video made me worried :(

I actually live in El Paso and these turtles are everywhere. My mom bought 2 in the parking lot of a Menchie's. She had no clue what they needed. I knew there was no way they could live in that tiny plastic container. I felt so bad for these little guys. I went to a family friends house where their child had a MUMMIFIED TURTLE. These turtles do not end up in good homes because they're not given to properly informed people. Gladly I haven't seen any for sell in a while. Keep fighting the good fight Taylor!

I keep 2 turtles in a tank like that, but they are very well taken of and they are both fed. Their water is changed every other day. They can’t keep turtles in that quantity in that size of tank.

My neighbor breeds tortoises. They run around the backyard and just chill. They treat them like pets and it is super cute. They have two female adults and two makes. They each have a mate. When they have the eggs my neighbor incubates them till they hatch. Then he puts them in this big terrarium untill they are big enough to sell properly. It is so cute because they are always either burrowing in the hay or chilling in top of each other under the heat light. He has s permit so don't worry.

Shmeht I got one that was pretty small from a pet and they told us some stuff about them. It's almost been five years and he's doing great. He's a yellow belly slider. I did loads of research before hand and he's really happy but does not liked being handled.

i actually did a college essay for finals week for my florida ecology class on red-eared sliders. what you have said is 100% correct and I was deeply saddened by this man’s actions. in florida certain turtle species are prohibited at all from being taken from the wild. for all other turtles (like red eared slider) you can only take one turtle, one night, per person. love you and your videos❤️

Good for you. I think you did the greatest thing for everyone involved except your bank account. I rescued my snapper outside my back door. I almost stepped on him. Rufus was far from water. He gave me that look. So I took him in. Yeah. I learned about all their needs afterwards. Rufus tub has doubled in size in 4 months. It should be double that size. I give him daily water changes, and he basks daily, and drys out in real sunlight, even though its snowing outside. He never snaps at me or wiggles in my hands. After he poops and drys out. I let him loose to explore. Today he had a different behavior. He crawled up to my face while I was laying on the carpet, then he crawled under my neck, and slept. We normally play hide and seek during this time. lol. They can move fast.
Rufus has grown 2 inches in 4 months. I hear he going to get big. I dug a raised flower bed for flowers (8x3x20 feet). I might have to turn it into a pool, but then there's filtration. I've seen videos of what wild animal do to snapping turtles. So then there's that. What have I gotten myself into.

Namjin's Beautiful children yes i heard her say that but turtles are so hard to sell. Finding an home for 80 turtles is almost impossible. They get old and for most people to big. For my four turtles i made an own pound most people throw them in a lake when they are to big. Most of the people that start doing research on turtles back off.

Yes Queen I've been that person to buy a turtle on the side of the road three months later died. I am now pursuing to get to musk turtles of course with a nice tank ,filter basking area ,heat lamps, and food. I know I'm like 3 years late but I appreciate it.

I got a red slider turtle at a fair in El Paso for 5 dollars and the turtle was definitely under 4 inches long. The guy had hundreds of baby turtles in a small plastic pool with no filter, no heat lamp, and no basking spot. And now thinking back, I'm pretty sure more than half of them are dead because parents were only impulsively buying them for their kids. Now originally I didn't want to buy one, because i didn't want that guy making a profit off of animal cruelty and for doing something illegal. But seeing all those turtles in that small pool broke my heart and I wanted to rescue at least one and give it a good home. So I bought one, kept him in the small plastic container for only the night and then went out and bought a 40 gallon tank the next day with all the essentials. Now my turtle is 3 years old (his name is Berry) and we've rescued another red slider turtle as well (his name is Luke) and they have both grown so much! And in a couple of years when they get even bigger im planning on building a turtle pond in my back yard so they can have their own little sanctuary.
