The update to Jim Stobie (Stobe the Hobo) Our friend James Stobie, aka Stobe the Hobo, died Wednesday the 8th of November, 2017. He was trapped on a bridge with an on coming Amtrak train, and while he got to the side of the bridge the best he could, the train caught his backpack and and pulled him into the train. The police identified his remains from fingerprints from the Coast Guard records Friday, and notified his parents. He died doing what he loved, bringing the world his art of train film making. Stobe was an artist. He played the piano for all his videos. His cinematography and film editing, his commentary and vocabulary, and his perspectives, were a true art form. I hope you get the time to enjoy all his videos and share them with your friends. They are bringing his remains back to Colorado for burial, and a celebration of life will come at a later date. For all you UA-cam fans, James Stobie did have 2 full length movies: "Attack of the Stobe Hobo" and "Canada by Cargo Train." I'm not sure if there is another, and I don't think they are on UA-cam. Hopefully these will be available somewhere, someday. I know he sold them, and I think he gave them to some Patreon donors. But I hope you get a chance to see them, and any remaining footage from his latest adventures, someday. We will post any updates here. Enjoy this goodbye from Stobe himself. This clip is from one of his movies, as he is going home for Christmas. We will see you at the other end of the tracks Hobo.

i have spent many hours watching STOBE THE HOBO videos and only found out he had past away near the end of his uploads. It’s fitting that his last video was one of my favorites. We all will miss him. I still can’t believe it and feel as though I’ve lost a friend even though I never met him. There’s no telling how many sleepless nights I binge watched his videos. Just goes to show EVERYONE how precious life is and how it’s something that we should never take for granted. This guy is an actual legend, watched since 2016 from brave dave the way he just wonders around drunk half the time amazes me, hes an intelligent man clearly from his vocabulary and knowledge and his content was very entertaining. Rip stobie no one compares
Same, something tells me these conductors are in-tune with the railroad culture and many are cool with the wandering souls who sometimes board their trains. Plus, it's a lot of lonely wilderness out there. Probably nice to know they have some sort of company along the way.
I find myself now trying to watch other youtubers within this genre. They're not bad, but they're just not quite Stobe. He was special and one of a kind. So was his work, at least we get to watch these amazing videos, forever. RIP!!!
RIP man. Even if what you did was dangerous and illegal, your videos were top notch. It was great to see trains from a different perspective. Loved your piano music in the videos, I hope I can be a good as you were someday. Hope you're in a better place now. Thanks for your service.
What an epic legacy. What a man. I love these videos and stumbled upon them today only to discover he has passed on. I truly wish others can see these videos and experience his life through his art of filmmaking. God bless you Stobie. Would love to travel in the way you did someday, and experience life through your style. Awesome man. Will be forever missed.
I only heard about them 5 days ago . If you scroll to 23:19 ...one second before the vid ends , it looks like him in his home at a desk . I had to put it on the slowest playback speed to really see it
Today, i found His videos For The first time. I've Been watching them For 5 hours and now i found out he died 8 months ago... That brought tears to My eyes. He was such a nice Guy, May he rest in peace. 💙🇫🇮
Just learned about this man today, seeing his story and journey has spoken to me deeply to a point I can't even explain, I wish I could've had a beer with you while you were still on your journey here on earth but all I can say now is godspeed Stobe, I'll have a cold 30 pack ready when I see you on the other side of the tracks
I hadn't been watching Stobe's free-wheeling vids for very long. I guess like a lot of people, just stumbled upon him. Nonetheless, for me, the one thing that stood out above anything else was he was a good soul, a good man, if not a little lost in the world. A highly likeable character that many thousands of others related to watching his travels. Such a shame but I guess he died doing something he loved and loved even more bringing us all along for the ride.
I just discovered Stobie last night and couldn't stop watching I had no idea of his death, he's was an inspiration to me and surely will be missed a true hero! James Stobie

Somebody mentioned in 5 days ago and that's how I found out about him and was sad to find out right away that he had already died five years earlier . But as soon as I heard that piano playing I somehow knew that was him playing the music
I'm still sick to my stomach knowing how he died...but what a great last episode. Thanks for all your content brutha, you are forever Immortalized. RIP
Hopefully it was quick.. Getting pulled under a train, that is the stuff of nightmares. Ive seen what train wheels can do to bicycles and other stuff people sometimes leave on the track.

I keep UA-cam playing in my shop. Strobe The Hobo is the perfect video for me. I can work & take in & then replay a few times. Sad that a guy like Strobe is gone. I follow John E Ringo who travels by intermodal train offering the same kind of wisdom as he travels. I live in Montgomery Alabama. I have a place we own called the Thicket Encampment near Attalla Alabama. We are on a RR track that goes to Lake Guntersville. I hopped that train & road about thirty miles on the ATN. People like Srrobe & John E Ringo keep me dreaming & thinking as I travel vicariously with them.
Jim Stobe a true pioneer and one of a kind. never forgotten. If you pull up google maps for wendover wyoming there is stobe shack at the junction. Enjoy!
I was originally thinking that Stobe was like a 21st century version of Chris McCandless. But I’m more taken in and prefer Stobe’s genuineness and authenticity. Stobe is not something embellished and romanticised by Hollywood or a book by Krakauer. He was a real guy who loved beer, travel and telling a good story with a self depreciating, sardonic sense of humour and lived a less than ordinary life. Miss ya Stobe.
I wonder if anybody ever comes back to this video. Just to remember the guy.
I've watched this twice since hearing of stobe's passing... so yea... many do.

4:18 "I'm walkin' around with a 30 pack, and a huge backpack; it's just not going to make sense." - LOL classic Stobe quote. Love this guy.
Just heard you passed. Usually i don't feel much more than flutter when someone I've admired from afar dies but news of your abrupt passing has me feeling as though I've lost an irreplaceable friend. One who summoned a smile each time each time our paths crossed. I am gratateful you shared these beautiful glimpses into a world I have romanticized but never know. Thank you and Love
Devin Bardsley it's a strange feeling isn't it even though u haven't met the guy, it goes to show how good a person he was, u actually feel u are there with him on these trips, I still think of him every day and I found out about 8 months ago,
Some days I wanna just go hop a train and be free for a while. Rest Easy Stobe. Stobie One Conobie, OUT!!!!
he was a hobo super star!
i have spent many hours watching STOBE THE HOBO videos and only found out he had past away near the end of his uploads.
I felt like I knew him but I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him in real life. That how good his videos came across
to me with his carefree attitude and his knowledge on rail lines travel routes is unparalleled. Its not a nice way to go
but he was doing what he most enjoyed RIP James "Jim" William Stobie AKA STOBE THE HOBO
Happy Birthday Stobie Jimmy Kenobi.
In the darkest hours of the night in 2022, we're all still thinking of you buddy.
Couple times a year I come back and watch some Stobe video. He will not be forgotten!
Be safe out there everyone. We all miss you Stobe
I posted above in the comments the link to episode 39 wide open spaces 2, but yea this one is incredible.
Every once in a while I'll come back here and re watch the old videos, and hope that he's secretly not dead and will be uploading again soon.

👍
Stobe ain't dead, God needs some train hopping lessons.
My pants keep falling down
He did what he loved doing, when I’m working my boring 9-5, Ill pop his videos on during breaks… true sense of freedom.
This video was published 2 days before his untimely death. May Hobestobe rest in peace.
I'd like to think that the conductor saw you all alone out there and decided to let you hop on. Rest in Peace, my friend.
Same, something tells me these conductors are in-tune with the railroad culture and many are cool with the wandering souls who sometimes board their trains. Plus, it's a lot of lonely wilderness out there. Probably nice to know they have some sort of company along the way.
“There he goes, one of God’s prototypes. A high powered super mutant never meant for mass production. Too weird to live, too rare to die.”
He died doing what he loved. Don't be sad that he's gone, be happy that he was here.
I find myself now trying to watch other youtubers within this genre. They're not bad, but they're just not quite Stobe. He was special and one of a kind. So was his work, at least we get to watch these amazing videos, forever. RIP!!!
Can't believe it's been 5 years since he died. Rip Stobe.
Dude is an absolute legend and will live in forever here.
RIP man. Even if what you did was dangerous and illegal, your videos were top notch. It was great to see trains from a different perspective. Loved your piano music in the videos, I hope I can be a good as you were someday. Hope you're in a better place now. Thanks for your service.
R.I.P. stobe you are truly missed 😢
I watched this guy before his passing😢 then I found hobo shoestring’s channel
And now we lost him too. Rip to both of them, legends of our time
What an epic legacy. What a man. I love these videos and stumbled upon them today only to discover he has passed on. I truly wish others can see these videos and experience his life through his art of filmmaking. God bless you Stobie. Would love to travel in the way you did someday, and experience life through your style. Awesome man. Will be forever missed.
Love stobe man, i didn't learn of him until after his passing, ive watched every video since. Love and strength to all
I only heard about them 5 days ago .
If you scroll to 23:19 ...one second before the vid ends , it looks like him in his home at a desk .
I had to put it on the slowest playback speed to really see it
Rest easy big man. Never forget Stobe and all those that came before him.
pour 1 out for Jim!
Man you will be missed by all of us, we felt like we knew you, I can’t believe this happened
Rest in peace man. You were a great guy who made some of my favorite videos. You will be missed by the railfan community.

His genius was the way he chose his soundtrack.
He played those piano songs
He was a drunk that got dragged to deth by a train

Almost 2 years to the day Stobe passed on. RIP. I hope he is doing what he loves up in Heaven.
Heaven's railways where the bulls smoke you out instead of fucking with you
RIP stobe the Hobo! :(
Just learned about this man today, seeing his story and journey has spoken to me deeply to a point I can't even explain, I wish I could've had a beer with you while you were still on your journey here on earth but all I can say now is godspeed Stobe, I'll have a cold 30 pack ready when I see you on the other side of the tracks
Just found this dude and it sucks I wasn’t able to watch his videos whenever he was still alive.. but I subscribed! Rest In Peace 🙏
Yeah, me too!
I didn't discover Stobe until five days ago .
I'VE WATCHED EM ALL ATLEAST 6 TIMES N SIRE DO MISS THIS GUY.
R.I.P. STOBE
Found the channel a week ago. Can't stop watching, it's a shame he's gone. RIP
We all love his videos... you can check out his friends channel. Hoboshoestring
It’s been 2 years, and it’s just been so hard seeing how long it’s been since a upload. I really do miss this man a lot a legend! Guess we won’t see the next episode but I’ve just completed all of them. Rip stobe we are still here supporting you!!!!
This is my first time watching stobe and learning about him. What a beautiful channel, im thankful people like him have and exist. I hope I can travel on a train one day in honor. God speed Stobe💯❤️
Somebody mentioned in 5 days ago and that's how I found out about him and was sad to find out right away that he had already died five years earlier .
But as soon as I heard that piano playing I somehow knew that was him playing the music
ua-cam.com/video/W906h_j1cSA/v-deo.htmlsi=UOBCIiIU5Y3fdOeJ
I'm thinking the guy stopped for you to get on for sure !!!!!
@@RMJ1984 Ya man, I walk the train tracks for exercise all the time. I've seen many poor coyotes get hit...it's heart breaking. I just hope it was quick for James.

I couldn't imagine it not being quick
R.I.P. Stobe! Glad I got to hang out with you this summer at Flathead and Arlee.
Did you give him a good dose of the Rez?!!
pbunyon2002 just watched most of his videos RIP his material will be the making of a major TV
I've drank enough beer and I just don't have the energy to worry about the moon coming through those tree tops,so true!
Incredible footage still. Really for me is art his videos. Respect.
I still can't believe he's truly gone. RIP James stobie you will be missed by many of us.
So fucking poetic. His last video is titled wide open Spaces. I hope you’re in them my friend.
Enjoy!
I find myself coming back here often hoping that by some miracle I'll find he's posted a new video.
Just passing through again... one of my favorite episodes!!!! Loved this guy..... new too far from my thoughts .... RIP Stobie One!
Every Saturday night I have a few beers and watch stobe. RIP my friend.
I used to watch stobe back in the day. Sad to hear he died. You gave us more then any history channel can. RIP HOBESTOBE!
This was one of the most interesting train stops I’ve seen on Stobes adventures.
RIP Hobo Stobe.
Currently 2022 and still watching. You soul lives on in everyone who has the traveling spirit and the guts to train hop the country
