It time to start showing our DC streets of the early 70s and 80’s so our kids clearly understands who we are. Because they have a feel as if they grew up with us
Momma, you are so right. I have been researching DC from the 50’s until the 80’s and 90’s - I was born in ‘93. I started researching in an effort to pay homage to my parents. My mother was a native of SE DC (her and my father, her husband- raised me in SE as well. I went to DuPont Park SDA / Archbishop Carroll/ Trinity Univ) and my father was reared in Riggs Park and then later Mitchellville in the late 70s. They were polar opposites to some. My mother was truly a Washingtonian - raised in DC through and through- her parents had even grown up in the city. My father was raised by North Carolinians - a valedictorian, beauty queen and a witty graduate at sixteen; made a mad dash for the north and built a family of four that my father was the last of. My parents and great aunts would tell me about the March on Washington, the Riots, Reaganomics/Marion Barry’s push back and of course, CRACK. My father is currently dying, unfortunately/suddenly, and my mother passed 15 years ago prematurely from stage 4 stomach cancer. They had married 16 years. I was 15 at the time. I’m 30 now. At this point I’ve met so many of the real people from these b-roll films or documentaries or their off spring. It brings a smile to my face, but also sorrow to my heart for all those lost along the way. You all are and were soldiers. The last of an honorable generation. You all and those before you can never be replaced, erased or overlooked. If no one else does, I give you your flowers today. I know how hard it was and I am happy you made it through.
Yes I’m greatly appreciative of the flowers as they are not given to us at all these days,and we definitely isn’t recognized On a community basis, you are so correct. Sorry for your loss as my family as well have passed from cancer prematurely. It definitely feels good to see when the younger generation recognize us respectfully
Looking at the cars, so much more colorful. You can casually see some cars with pop up headlamps and no one even bats an eye! It's just another day in DC. Every time my friend goes driving with his honda accord which has pop up headlamps, people are astonished! Those gas prices man, we will never see something like that ever again.
What’s funny is. Alpo had all that money and still had what we’d consider an awful car if it was released today. Moral of the story is, don’t upset yourself too much over what you can’t afford….because in 30 years the item you got envious of not having, you’d consider junk. And the items you have now, 30 years ago, even the richest people in the world didn’t have. You understand?
