    That section about the comfortable job hits close to home. I've been with my company for 7 years, but I don't really have anything to show for it. Evidently I don't hate it because I'm still there, but the "pain" is starting to get greater and greater as I lose my patience. Hearing your point about this topic has made me realize that I really need to turn that negativity into something that pushes me into a better career. Oh man I'd really like to point something out. Maybe its a bit to poetic or philosphical or whatever but i think its a perfect example of how the smallest things matter, and its so serendipitous that its the blender donut that happens to be in the movie Everything, Everywhere which is all about this.
    It was a simple, almost throw away choice by Andrews wife that the tutorial was a donut. Andrew made a simple choice to go to a conference and Ton made a simple choice to bring up that Blender needed more educational content, and Andrew thought sure why not. And Andrew almost didnt make the donut tutorial, but he decided ah sure ok i guess. At no point did any of them think those choices would become what they did, but they rippled out and resonated with others who made their own choices until many years later the donut ends up as a central plot point in a multi Oscar winning movie about whether or all choices don't matter or any choice can matter.
    Its a great example that the smallest actions we take ripple out to effect other people accross space and time and we can't know if or how they will matter to someone. Whether thats a kind word, an offer of help or a choice of a donut.

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  Рік тому +2

      Wow!!! Holy ........ Reading this just gave us goosebumps!!
      The moment you brought up the storyline of the movie and we remembered the ending! Feels like this has all been planned out meticulously even though it all came from simple choices. Just goes to show how important our smallest decisions in life can be.

    My daughter in grade 11 did a Digital Technology class that used Blender and Unity to achieve some modelling result and game result. So I think you can choose subjects that you learn those things at school, which is good. She didn't do Andrew's Donut tutorial (even though I had suggested it a couple of years ago) but absolutely crushed it with her models. I was so impressed by her work and so was her teacher. Not sure if she followed any tutorials, but she seemed to have a talent for modelling. I wonder what she would be like if she learnt the shortcuts.

    Super cool to watch and listen to this one and nice to remember the same origins that I shared with Andrew, the gingerbread, and those text-only manuals back in the day. :D

      @@badxstudio That gingerbread tutorial was a pivotal moment to some of us but honestly was a tough one to follow along and assumed existing knowledge which was rough for most beginners during our time.

    I can relate to not liking to learn some things in school and later in life wanting to know everything about it.
    Back in my high school days I went in the IT direction mainly because of gaming, didn't care for wood or metal working or most other trades that were available to study.
    Never got very far in IT but did learn the basics, back then people thought I was a computer genius, these days I'm an IT amateur😅
    Then I ran into a video by the King of Random on YT called the mini metal foundry, long story short: Built my own melting furnace, learned all about metal casting, made patterns out of foam or wood, even started filming and editing for YT, got a 3D printer for making even better patterns... and about a week ago I started learning how to make a donut in Blender. Andrew is a great teacher! I am even a bit proud of myself for learning all this stuff 😁👍

    Great podcast. It occured to me while you were discussing the fear of AI, that a major driver of this fear is to do with competitive mindsets. Moving away from competitive mindsets toward a collaborative approach, will ease or erase this fear. There is only one you, and your unique perspective in collaboration with other uniquenessnis what is important to bring into being. This is my view.

    Katzenburg also keeps being misquoted on that 10% thing. He said 10% of the people that he used to work with back in the day, as in, all of the advancements we’ve already made and all the software changes since the 90s (when he was in charge of Lion King and Little Mermaid and stuff) have already cut down on the amount of people and hours required to make an animated feature by a huge amount. He’s not saying 10% of the people working now. You could make a feature at home by yourself using blender in your home now, with tools that only major studios and hundreds of professionals could achieve thirty years ago. What he said is already basically true, and he’s just observing that AI will move that further.

    Andrew. I had a job like you had for almost 10 years straight. In UK we call it Extraman. They literally have a plethora of shit jobs - but you take generally whatever you can. So I did.
    My god there were so many really crap jobs out there, mostly carrying stuff from A to B.
    So, I was a game designer since 1999. Economy crashed in 2008. Was jobless from 2013 and did multiple crappy jobs, but still freelanced whenever I could, using max and Maya.
    Only late last year august did I finally get a games designer job again. Finally!
    But man it sucks because you know your portfolio is great, yet no one is hiring you. I guess it’s the electronic way of operation now. A computer places your portfolio on a to-do pile, and decides whether you qualify for an interview or not. Long ago, you could speak to a real human and probably get it, given your skills. Now, your skill don’t matter. The computer decides whether you’re through or not.
    I have to admit one thing though - man you are in tip too shape when you’re doing labour work. I mean, you get strong! Real strength. Not gym strength.
    Anyway, I’m working with Blender almost on a daily basis now.

    Right now we have the ability to "fight the Ai" by learning more, but I don't think that will always be true. Its kind of like being in the right place at the right time. You need to predict which skills are going to be the hardest for Ai to automate, and focus on those.

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  Рік тому

      Elon musk said in an interview that eventually (who knows how long away that could be) AI will be able to do everything for us humans, and we all potentially will have our own AI assistant. So when that time comes, it's only a matter of:
      1. If we can do anything we want, and we are capable of it, what would we do?
      In other words, can we find meaning in what we do!
      What do you think about this?

    • @IrocZIV
      @IrocZIV Рік тому

      Are you talking about a world like Star Trek, where money doesn't dictate what we do? If so, I'm all for it, but I think that is going to be even further off than an AGi that would be capable of fully replacing a human.
      I think Ai will lead to a lot of great things, but I also think society is going to need to adapt faster than it ever has before.

    1:05:52 i disagree here . What about people who are not that much intelligent to learn many of skills . And also he say AI can replace the skillset u have but its not limited to 1 skill for AI to place we can see many AI doing replace lot of skills what humans can learn then,.. it seems like in movies the weaker one don't have right to live anymore 😢, i know AI was very much productivity but if it happened all suddenly people get weird(many guys may lost job . Income decreased . Govt GDP decreased.. eventually people dont invest on many entertainment ares.... The govt should take action ...i think it will come full circle 😂 ......anyway seeing three of u guys are so beautiful 😍

  • @georgeluna6217
    @georgeluna6217 Рік тому

    1:04:50 totally disagree on that @blenderguru and I am surprised watching you state this argument.
    There is a huge difference between what you describe compare to AI.
    Before AI things were moving and evolving but human factor was always mandatory to perform a task. Like you said; someone created the shaders by coding them and now someone joins nodes for example. In that case human is always present just the tools and ways have changed.
    Now with AI human factor will be excluded completely in the most cases. That’s a HUGE difference.
    When someone will be able to run a few sentences and create the Star Wars spaceship in the future the human factor will have the less impact eventually in the pipeline.
    And the industry will be mostly AI generated that includes games, motion image etc
    I am not AI hater or something but we need to realise that AI creation in the future will not rely to human to complete a task apart from prompting.
    Modelling, Texturing, UVs etc will eventually be so automated that jobs like modelling will vanish at some point or the salaries will not worth to doing it manually.
    Is only up to studios and businesses to balance this evolvement somehow.

    Hey guys.... Would you like to provide a tutorial regarding custom metahuman face and body using metapipe 2 ... Arts and spells (The creator of meta pipe) is giving away a free version where we can customise metahuman body and face morph targets

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  Рік тому

      Hey mate! We are literally finishing up our METAHUMAN CUSTOMISATION TUTORIAL but our workflow is not using any 3rd party plugin instead it works within blender itself. It's not as flexible as metapipe of course but we don't use maya unfortunately.
      Nonetheless that is an approach we are considering to try and learn!
