I just started playing RDO 3 weeks ago, got a Morgan, a black Norfolk Roadster and a red chestnut Arabian so far. I'm currently grinding the moonshiner role to get that Overo Mustang.
So cool dude! Enjoy those early days of RDO, there the best dude. Also just wondering, but do you have bounty hunter, or just moonshiner? I would definitely get bounty hunter
@ABNclips Thank you, it's been fun so far. I took the one time ps store offer of 25 gold bars for 5 bucks (uk) bought a bounty hunter licence then played the story missions and collected Bounties until I had enough gold to unlock the trader and moonshiner roles. I know I've maybe skipped a few steps for a beginner but I wanted to take advantage of the moonshiner bonuses and discounts and it's definitely paid off. I just reached moonshiner level 20 today and I've got some good horses and weapons so I'm currently working on buying pamphlets and earning gold to start the collector role.

I have 10 horses. Every one mentioned here. Once in a while I'll try a different one for awhile, but I always come back to the Norfolk. The Gypsy is also great for the races, since if you get off or fall off your horse you are dead. And if your horse dies, you do. (I don't race much so check me on that...)
I still use the level 1 trader horse black Kladruber until now, even though it's very slow (2 speed 3 acceleration). Of all the role horses Kladruber is my favorite mainly because it's big and unique.
For me the best horses are the breeds that were actually utilized in early Americana that were particularly used by mountain men and trappers as that's what I've based my character & outfits on for the over 2200 hours I've been playing. I'd recommend for anyone to simply choose the horse(s) that are esthetically pleasing to you and nothing more! As for me, those horses include the American Paints, Appaloosas, Tennessee Walkers, Kentucky Saddlers, donkeys and mules whenever available as they were the main pack animals for mountain men!🤠
The difference between a lot of speed/acceleration and less speed/acceleration is so insignificant (saving 10s on a 5 minute trip) that it is really stupid to take them as a reference in comparison to the loss of time than the death of a horse can offer not to mention our own death in finding ourselves without a mount and endurance is consumed so little during a journey by pressing the stick that we can go completely around the map without needing to feed once our horse along the way, especially with the right equipment. Forget all stats other than health (even a half circle of stamina is LARGELY enough). Along with bravery, health is the only stat that will make the difference between a successful mission or journey and complete failure. The difference between high and low speed is so small that it is the skill of the player that will make the difference during a chase. On the other hand, being able to take one or two more bulets or having a horse that does not die from an accident caused by our stress during this chase, will make a much bigger difference than the 20 seconds gained on a Tumbleweed/Saint Denis trip. As for acceleration, the difference is even more insignificant given that a horse reaches its maximum speed extremely quickly. The difference between the slowest and fastest acceleration is around 0.5 seconds and as in any case, everyone is generally well equipped, the gap is never that big and is of the order 0.2 or 0.3 seconds on average. Anyway, thank you very much for this video.
@@SimplicityEDC I just started online so I am here to educate myself about the new (to me) horses. That said, I 100% completed the story mode twice and rode the Dark Bay Turkoman for approximately 60% of that time. Health and at least standard handling are what I look for. Also, size does matter because there are videos proving that the larger a horse is the further they jump and are less intimidated by predators. The Turkoman fits these parameters the best in my opinion. For straight up appearance I like the Thoroughbreds and spent 30% of my playthroughs riding them. However, their lack of health makes them a decent choice for story mode but a weak choice for online. I have already had to revive the free Thoroughbred I received with the special/ultimate(?) edition five times.
Ive won a ton of races on my Breton, and I renamed him Brutus shortly after kitting him up when a two horse carriage broadsided me in Valentine and one of the horses and one driver died and I didn't get dismounted. Norfolk is just phenomenally great for long distance but I use Brenton way more often because they are almost totally fearless, and with the same saddle, they aren't much slower at all
I always prefer my Missouri Fox Trotter - My first pick would be the kladruber as for the role horses cuz those do not lie down in horseback gunfight until they’re dead 😅 - honestly can’t stand the temper of the Norfolk Roadster - reminds me of the Arabian which I also can’t stand so that one left my stable quickly 😅
Same here, I have all the top role horses, the fastest and best is my silver dapple fox trotter, I use the beaver roper saddle which seems to be just as good as the nac. and upland, but looks better. You really don't need to worry about stamina when you learn to hit the button along with the rhythm of the horse running, it uses no stamina
My best horse hands down is my Buckskin Mustang but if i had to pick just a role horse it would be a Gypsy Cob I have had real good luck rolling them. My least favorite is the Roadster , I know a lot like it but I dont care for it at all. I use the Upland saddle with Bell stirrup glitch ( PC ) it has ZERO stamina drain.
Breton for me, I don't really care about speed, I care about reliance, and my Breton can literally trample predators, including crocodiles, without bucking me off, needless to say it's a beast in gunfights.
the most important in the game is preparation before a gunfight or better said always prepared for any encounter .....hunt ducks, boars, pheasants, and collect animal fat ..... every 5 kills craft explosive ammo .... with explosive ammo in every pistol, rifle and explosive slugs in your shot guns you will become unstoppable with one round kills, and you will begin to see a lot of attackers headless or with blown off limbs..... the damage you can put out is extreme !
I'm 2 weeks in on this online for the first time and just unlocked the breton I just say this horse is the scariest horse i own it runs and bucks me before the red dot shows up for wolves and it's the level 20 one. Only good thing about it is how it looks and it will run through almost anything
This is a very useful guide, but how about something that’s more in depth? What are the best horses for pulling the various role related wagons? What’s the best horse to use when hunting predators? It’s cool to rank horses based on how fast they are, but there are other uses.As a new player, I need to know which horses to prioritize.
You can't change horses of the wagons. But when it comes to hunting predators the norfolk is also good. Ive only had me throw me off once when a pack of wolves were under it because of my stupidity. But I take mine through the swamps & tall trees without a problem. Or if you want a good horse that isn't role based go for the Missouri fox trotter
If you are in a gun fight or hunting you want a Kladruder. It is one of the most bravest horse out of all of them. It is the best horse I have had so far. And I have a lot of them
I recommend using the Missouri foxtrotter Horse you never going to run out of stamina and let me tell you this horse can take a lot of bullets without dying and it's the fastest horse in the game and the highest stats highly recommend
So long as you have hooded stirrups and the nacadoches saddle it dont matter, just choose the horse you like the best, the stats mean next to nothing, there are plenty of vids showing this.
Bravery is also a thing the breton will not buck you off as most breeds i love it i used to main the norfolk roadster but i got tired of getting bucked from bears or wolfs
@@kodabear_46 No its really a thing, you are probably running slow and steady you can use that with any horse and you wont get bucked off, buy a breton get into a heavy gunfight and you will see a difference
@ How did we go from predator animals to gunfights? EIther way I'm not using slow & steady, I didn't even know it was a thing until now. I run paint it black like most people. But that doesn't matter either because I don't use dead eye really. Yet I can still take my norfolk through the swamps & tall trees(which is where I live) and not have a problem.
I’ve tried all the breeds, all colors. I get bored. Over time, I’ve settled into my favorite 10. I love my mustang and the others but I really love the Turks…I have 4. I just love them.
Stats matter so little it's mostly up to what breed and color your like. We are talking a difference of like 10 seconds in arrival time during controlled races between the fastest and slowest horses, it literally doesn't matter. And be an individual, don't copy the boring meta and use the ugly as sin Nagadocha saddle and stirrups, just click your thumbstick in for free endless stamina. Everytime I see an all-black try hard cowboy with double bandoliers and gold or silver skulls all over him on an Arabian with that saddle I know I am dealing with a cringelord that will try to snipe me from behind (he can't shoot for shit and I farm him until he logs off)
I got to get back on RDO soon! I miss playing, GTA kept me busy 😅. By the way the Northfolk Roadster is the best horse in this game with the nagadoshes saddle. We'll it's tied with the Missouri Foxtrotter
I love that horse! Kept it in my stable for a year. I think the mother Hubbard saddle in online is just a hefty sum of cash. Can just buy it in the special saddles section in the stable
For me my Gypsy cob Oreo is a tank and almost never bucks me off and for some reason at the same speed of my friends Breton mean while when I try a Breton they always scared and runaway All the time
It’s really good! It’s still an Arabian at the end of the day. Personally it’s just too small so I don’t use it since my male character looks too big and awkward for it. But a great horse! Used it for a few months on PC in online
I like them. The special saddles and the upland saddle are really good and if you care more about looks then go for it since statistically the saddle is actually better in some cases, but since in some you can’t change the stirrups that’s why I don’t use them all that much
I honestly gave up on having just "the best horses", no matter if it is a role horse or not. Instead I have a system: days 1 and 2 = my draft/heavy handling days. 3 and 4 = standard handling of whatever I like. 5 and 6: race horses. 7 and 8: the arabians (white and black). 9 and 10: reserved for the Turkomans, but it can be whichever horses you find the most beautiful (if any of you want to use this setup, too). In the end, stats don't matter all that much, unless you are a griefer hunter. Just pick a horse you like, with a saddle you think is most fitting. :)
