Well Neil, as you said, the IWS was a huge lump! Even the transit case was bulky, it came with a mount for the Carl Gustav 84mm a dream for the anti-tank guy in the section because you really did need to add those extra pounds to the 36lbs chunk of steel. For the price the Akaso Seemor 200 is really good. So, you twisted my arm and I picked one up. Have to say, the quality of vision is really outstanding. Rgds Si
@@jimcy1319Well that’s great. But not all of us have thousands of $£€ to plunk down on mil spec or commercial grade kit. For the price and features offered, these ARE an impressive bit of kit.
Cool. I do a lot of nighttime photography, mostly stars and yes, it would be nice to know what makes those noises at night. I take the view that if it isn't afraid to make a noise then it isn't afraid of you. They certainly know you are there. I spent some time photographing bats at night because I got lucky one night and found a place they liked to congregate to feed at night (over a flat, shallow river where there were lots of bugs). Kit like this would be a great aid to find more. The question for me is: How many nocturnal creatures are sensitive to IR light? Birds generally are insensitive to electronic flash, bats certainly are not and will abandon a location if you use flash too much. IR? No idea.
I used the CWS night scope in the mid / late 1990s whilst on patrol in NI - actually was a good night vision sight. That's if we could find any batteries for it.. lol
You and I seem to be of the same era. I remember the IWS. Night vision was a big deal. I went on to research IR. I will shut up now. Night vision is now Infra Red technology. Not Image intensification like the 70's.
hardly phenomenol, the owler 1 is ten times better, but the night colour is its saving grace, its picture quality isnt half as good as the owler 1 as is clear to see on these video shots,
I was sent the product. I haven't charged them for my time. I paid for the action camera, and was very pleased with it, so I was more than happy to do a review.
The top screw hole is for additional ir torches and/or a head mount option. Looks like a nice set.
I was in the ACF late 70s Royal Signals Essex

Nice piece of kit and yes for winter outings you can be in darkness before you know it.
Thanks for reviewing. Just ordered mine for Xmas 😉
I remember the Starlight scopes. Reach out and touch someone in the distant dark.
Impressive piece of kit, thanks for the review Neil.
No it's not, it's first generation night vision.

I don't know why these (all of these civvie street models) don't have proper, military style, eyecups on the backside of the device...
They certainly kept the glare contained.
@@simonwillis6902 - Yeah, I don't need all kinds of light reflecting off my face. These are a Star Wars movie prop.
