I went on the Hidden London virtual tour of this station, and they said that it would be impossible to bring large groups down there for health and safety reasons. The station is now in such poor condition (dangerous floors and other structures) it's not even a designated emergency exit point!

Should have been reopened to help the King’s Cross development…I think they abandoned the proposals a few years ago due to cost. Now there’s certainly no money for anything at the moment.

Wow 90's years after closure, the toilets are still in good condition although with some great dust on it, the spiral staircase don't look like the original ones it seems like they were replaced after closure, The stations layout at platform level was similar to neighbouring station Caledonian Road with the lifts entrance being on the same level as the platform,i think this station was slightly deeper than Caledonian Road, it would be very interesting if it was still possible to visit this disused tube station ? by the way an interesting video.

5:36 This signal box apparently stayed open for another 32 years after the station closed in 1932.
Pity the poor sods who had to do shifts all alone down here!

Loved it, did you gain access officially or by other means.
I wouldn't imagine that you could go down there with out an LT official.
    Regardless I found it exciting.
I know it closed before WW2

I think it probably should be reopened tbh, there's quite a bit gap between Kings Cross St Pancras and Caledonian road as it stands

How did you get in ? Did you have to ask for permission ?

  • @NJPurling

How did you manage to get caught? Unless the cameras were working or a driver spotted you. Which would be a huge mistake. That's a £1000 fine. That's a big wedge of cash for most people.
TFL know people try & get in on Christmas Day as the traction current gets switched off.

It cannot be reopened, The platforms and modern safety standards are not compatible I heard and that it would be better building from scratch, so both expensive options. Also it would slow down most of the Piccadilly line causing longer waits at King's Cross adding more congestion there. So it's a non-starter, only in London would you get people too lazy to walk or catch a bus down a road, so it would be inconvenience millions for the sake of being a convenience for thousands, that's how it was weighed up.
