My Last Words is the last track off Peace Sells and has, for me, made the longest lasting impression from that epic work. Back in the day my friends and I would ogle at the classically inspired beginning and the sheer technical brilliance and unrelenting speed once it got going. Dave's lead at the end is a work of pure energy and inspiration in music. Fantastically fitting and deviously tricky in places. The ending is savage and ripping. The state of the art speed metal band, indeed. Thank you Dave, Dave Jr., Chris, and Gar for creating such a masterpiece.
I still can't perfectly play it, but I think I'm rather close. I intentionally didn't learn it for years, both out of fear the magic would get lost and for the stigma of it being so... well it must have been impossible. It IS possible and the magic is still there.
I'll tell you... if you have the ability to move your fingers and use your ears and you want to learn something, just try it and give it your best. Succeed or fail, the endeavor will only make you better in the process.
A comment about the guitar. I design and build my own. This one is the prototype to all the tele-types I've built. It's the only one I just won't sell. Well... one of a couple. And of course I didn't build the Washburns (which I've altered substantially), my Ibanez 770pb (hate it), or my Yamaha.
Alder body, maple and purpleheart laminate neck, walnut fretboard and the incredibly versatile and ballsy Dragonfire overwound Vintage A5 in the bridge and Duo Rails in the neck, which is placed precisely where a 29th fret would be. ;) They come cheap and I highly recommend them.

Could not LIKE this video anymore. My Last Words is the best song on the album (IMO). Mustaine was so creative back then, his riffs were just a little different, each time. Such a shame to hear the stuff he's schlepping out there now.
Best song on Peace? Hell yes! Shame... yes that too. All artists that reach a high level of fame will inevitably be surrounded by an echo chamber of yes-men and if they're not careful, will eventually fall prey to becoming a caricature of themselves by believing all the hype that everything they do is great. Just look at Zakk Wylde after No More Tears. How the mighty have fallen.
@@YeOldeThrashDude Zakk, I liked his first offering with Ozzy, but that was where the romance ended. I get it, you like pinch harmonics.
Dave...well.... he still shows some of his creativity and brilliance here and there on everything he does, its just not a big chunk of songs worthy of an album. It's a full song or two per album, some hidden cool riffs in various songs. It's still there, despite the yes-man issue.
