My hype for the fizbans review is indescribable and my happiness you guys continue reviewing wizards project makes me very joyful and glad to be a part of the community and I am curious has Pruitt seen the latest race ua?🪐☄️🛸👽🛰🚀 Also are you all at web dm curios about the call of the nether deep module and excited for that at all since some far realm involvement at the bottom of the ocean?
Totally agree with Jim about a group with “humble beginnings”. If your story is about WONDER you gotta start with some characters who have pretty mundane or simple worlds that get blown away by a new reality. How lame would it have been if Charlie Bucket was just another rich kid who got to go into Wonka’s Factory?
Best way I got my players into the feywilds was them rolling a nat 1 to find the feywilds. Instead of actually finding they feywilds they got lost in the woods and just sort of stumbled in.
I am currently reading through the adventure myself. Almost done, but I like to read a bit and give my brain a day or two to percolate on it. So far I feel like this is the first DnD adventure written for my particular playstyle. Everything about it felt so familiar and I was almost giddy with how it felt like I already knew what was coming next. Glad to see some new approaches to ttrpging besides "kill everything and take the loots!" Thank you two for shining a light on this super adventure.
I went low magic for this very reason. Being enveloped in magic while being a grounded hero is a classic archetype that works incredibly well for this. That said, I think having a few humans/half-elves/half-orcs/ and then one or two magical characters who are witchlight hands would work great on a narrative level.
Not that I'm upset, but are there plans for you guys to get back to studio together soon? The new audio setup is super good, but it's not the same as you guys in the same room. The chemistry is better. Love you guys!
A harengon clockwork soul sorcerer would literally be the White Rabbit. And he could be obsessed with getting to this unknown location, and the other players are getting dragged along while he runs through the feywild!
Great call back to Deep Space Nine the episode was Treachery, Faith and the Great River. It focused on Nog and Chief O'Brien creatively solving supply chain problems. The river being the great material continuum which was the Ferengi view of supply and demand. Very good comparison to the bartering for favors in Wild Beyond the Witchlight.
I bought the guts of the book without the adventure. And I kinda just want to talk about some stuff that inspires me. 1. Chromatic Roses captivate me greatly. A magic item I can freely give that's expendable, requires tactical judgment, and is thematic as a magical token of beauty, love, and sacrafice 2. Races. I see alot of Monks, Wizards, Artificers and Barbarians being played with both races for the same reasons you see halflings and gnomes played. You can easily make a medium harengon into an anthro kangaroo if "kangaroo boxer" inspires any odd nostalgia or reverence in Australian in you. As for fairies, I'm hope both people are happy, and hardcore power gamers do some real madness with butterfly wings on their back. 3. Monsters added are mostly are mostly evocative NPC and adorable creatures, and highly chalanging bosses that can be reused/reskined pretty well. Thank you for reading my comment, hope it was useful
Do you think Wild beyond the Witchlight is a good book to pick up if you don't want to run it? Like to get some Fey lore, good NPC ideas, magic items, etc... Really interested in running Fey stuff and specifically the deals and such, but not really interested in running a pre-written campaign right now.
Probably! There's tables and stuff that are useful, but like most published adventures, you'd have to dig around to find what you need and have to put in some elbow grease to adapt it.
For a darker less Disneyesqu feywilde, check out the Shadow of the Demon Lord book Terrible Beauty. Adaptable to any fantasy game with usable tables and ideas.
There is the "Lost Things" session 0 adventure that gives a whole adventure hook and "how do you characters know each other". (oh, you talk about it at 11:00. HA!)
the best thing that whatever they do in 2024 could do is add back in the explicit hexcrawling and dungeoncrawling procedures to give actual procedures for actually running those parts of the game
I like the rabbit folk race because I had recently listened to Jack Vance’s Lyonesse trilogy (which is full of fairies being tricky and magical), and there’s a minor character named Grofinet who is like a rabbit folk. He even get fixated on funny projects like trying to construct wings to fly and build a pyramid when he learns about the ones in Egypt. True fey-brained character.
You've certainly made me more interested in Wild Beyond the Witchlight. I love the Feywild, I don't really love WotC's written adventures though. As for AD&D 5E or 5.5E or whatever we're calling it. It's time. I don't think it will be very different either. I think WotC just wants to get away from certain elements of the core 3 books being outdated. Probably making Tasha's Cauldron stuff (like fixes to the ranger and racial stat assignment) baseline to the edition now since they're fairly well received. *himbo strength elves unite!*. Still the same math. Just streamlined elements.
I personally am not a fan of the new racial stat stuff especially since they kept saying it's optional only to make it the law of the land for all their UAs after that, I'll elaborate further but before I get to heated I'll say I'm a fan of himbo/Adonis style elves as well it just homogenises all the different races to the point that they're all just humans with pointy ears or with a beard. I'd let sleeping dogs lie and just ignore it but with the latest stuff they've done with races making them literally all just humans in all proportions it just feels crazy for me. It takes planet of the hats to new levels
To me it is a nice alternative, but I would prefer if racial bonuses were still a thing and you had a choice between strong but set racial bonus or weaker bonus to whatever you want. As if: you can either pick just +1/+1 to any stats you want, or something like +2/+2 to specific racial stats
@@nihili4196 that is a interesting compromise, I like it although I'd probably throw a -1 to another stat for the strong racials might be a pain to balance either way in practice and might be a hard sell to either side.

Most of all I would like more DM support, I have been playing for years and got tons of books to help me out, new players aren't so fortunate and have been left hanging thus far.

I’m excited to see them add to the tool box. I have a concern that homogenization will happen but its promising that they are taking their time on this expanded edition.
I feel like a whole campaign that you can go through without ever getting into a fight renders certain classes entirely useless. A huge chunk of class features are based on combat.
But all other campaigns are great for those class features - as long as the table knows what kind of game they are getting into, this is an amazing option to have as a DM. This one really emphasises that you need a session 0.
Well, they said you can get into fights, but it'll be a TPK most of the time ... lol. I'm really, really interested to read the book. I guess you could always nerf the TPK scenarios. I'm probably going to be playing it solo with Numenera characters and there will be violence, by God... hahah.
