You can parent the flare direct to the null object, not alt click on flare center!, then manual center the flare to the start position, zoom in abit, make sure the start position of the timeline is also at 0. Works perfect!

Ultimately I had to create each individual layer separate (Step one). I could not use the duplicate function. (probably user error). Other than that this video was super helpful. Thanks! If some of you are getting to 7:50 ish where your flare is offset from the letter.. That could be because you moved your mask layer, which for some reason offsets the center position of the flare. Just a FYI

I want to only blend it to the text outline but the lens flare is blending with the whole screen. I've tried different blending modes but nothing works out. Can you help me with this? I know I'm late for these questions but letters like these will contain two masks. Just make a flare for each segment. Josh has made a short video like this that works without using a null object. Copy the layers path and paste it to the Lens Flare Center. If you use easy ease (F9) on the last keyframe you must use easy ease on the last keyframe of your stroke or they will be offset.
Sorry if this has already been asked and answered. When I export via media encoder, all that is coming out at the end of it is the final outline and none of the animation. I'm fairly new so there's a good chance I'm missing a step. Can you advise?

In after effect. I created a new square composition with a 1:1 ratio of 1080px by 1080px. I rendered it. But when download the MP4 file on Facebook or twitter, the square is not filling out the screen as you would normally see on mobile phones. why is this? I have a picture example if I can send it you.

Tutorial speed is great (easy enough to pause). Slow down your narration 10% to make the tutorial 100%. (Sounds like you’re late and rushing to be somewhere else). An otherwise fantastic walk through of this technique. Thanks for putting it out there.
Hello!! I m in a big trouble. Can you plse help me? The problem is when I render my output from after effects it comes out to be a slight blurry at the edges though I have rendered it in full HD and in h.264 format. Since I have vectors in my composition I turned on "continuously rasterize" option that sun icon option too. What should I do to get a crisp rather than blurry render?
I haven't been able to do this tutorial because as soon as I turn the paint style of the stroke at 1:15 to "on transparent" my letters disappear! Help?
Great tut mate. My flare seems to move faster than the stroke line reveal, the flare is at the end of the letter before the line. Is their a setting somewhere?
im struggling to keep up, i see on the video things that dont show on my after effects. its like ive missed anything, need to slow down and just zoom in now and again so people can see that their timeline is showing up like yours

Just now seeing this tutorial and I see you asked this 6 months ago but I know someone else will also run into this and need the answer: Yes, you can. Under your outline masks, you should see two masks for each of the letters that have both an outer and an inner portion of the outline. You can apply the process he goes over to one, the other, or both.
I created a null object but I do not know how to link flare center to the null's position so that it can move with the null object. Im using the 2018 cc version so it does not have the swirl thing that lets me link it to the null's position. Can someone help me?
when I copy the mask path of the first letter and paste it to the null object the path of the red outlined letter is smaller than the actual letter. So for this I'm just using the word "TEST". The T is normal size, but the null object 'T' is much smaller. Any idea how to fix that or what I'm doing wrong?

I found a solution for my problem, i did copy the the mask path from the start of the first letter and pasted it in the flare center and it works perfect

How can you render out the title to an alpha when the built in lens flare is only an 8-bit effect so we can use this over our projects? Theres no option to render with alpha or even change the flares background color so we can choose greenscreen? I keep getting the black background and when i mask things out i also get the mask in black... any workarounds here without buying additional plugins? Thanks again..
Clarifying this further.. its a problem with the 8-bit "lens Flare" plugin.. i can't figure out a way to generate an alpha channel for the flare's effects so that i can use the title over my other footage rather then a black screen.. any thoughts?

works well for me on the first letter, but with many letters the thing turns into a big white fireball. Turned down all brightness in the flare and the wiggle parameters but doesnt help. Any ideas?
My flare is off from my stroke. It travels faster than the stroke appears and I don't know how to fix it. It started doing it when I fixed the flare to delay showing by a second or two.
the generate stroke function causes my after effects to stop , it then blacks out the screen and cant load frames anymore error "ram preview needs 2 or more frames to playback" my ram isnt full

Use the lens you have until you can upgrade. I would suggest the 50mm 1.8 if you need a low cost, but great lens. I use 16-35 2.8L and 85 1.2L for my shots.

You might have already solved this but I managed it by creating a new adjustment layer rather than a new solid layer when creating the flare.

My also same problem
When you create stroke, set paint style to transparent, adjust brush size. It fixed the problem for me.

Tasks like duplicating layers, setting position for each characters are very repetitive.
Is there a shortcut in AE?
Ctrl D to duplicate a layer. All other keyframes have to be copied and pasted. Those are the shortcuts.
