Awesome set with a lot of good cards, but pioneer is just unplayable for me rn. Amalia and vein ripper killed the format in my local store. No one is appearing to play :'(
It's always rough when people start dropping the format locally. Hopefully there will be some shakeups upcoming and the new sets can balance the format a little better.
I know that at the time this video was made Bloomburrow wasn't established in the meta, but I am very disappointed on how it turned out in term of Pioneer at least. Basically zero changes in the metagame... I hate to say it, but every single card in Bloomburrow is just slightly worse than some other card. Vinereap Mentor is just worse than Bloodtithe Harvestor because Golgari isn't strong enough right now, Parting Gust isn't nearly as versatile as cards like Get Lost or March of Otherwordly Light, Long River's Pull is just kinda bad because it actually gives your opponent some card advantage, etc. WoTC really needs to make some good bans or else Pioneer is going to die this year.
My guess is most of these cards will continue to linger and will become staples over time, but right now they aren't fighting the linear decks that are very well constructed and as you say, dominating the metagame. However, because of the non-rotating nature of the format (including MH sets as rotation), there will always become stagnant top decks in Pioneer. It's part of the nature of the format. Hopefully the upcoming bans can at least help people find some more room to innovate at the very least.
@@darthjacen Yeah, the nonrotating nature of the format does have this downside, but WoTC has also gotten MUCH worse at properly balancing their formats. I used to love modern, then MH sets came out and modern has been pretty lackluster since then. I was really hoping Pioneer would fix this problem, but Pioneer is in an even worse state right now. Prime day modern had half a dozen or more decks that were completely viable in tournaments, now you rarely see more than 3 different decks in both Pioneer and Modern.
