You do a great, informative video! I graduated back in December 2020 from DMS program. Besides having to deal with the pandemic through majority of the program, I also had a leader that mentally abused her students, went by favortism, and cared more about their reputation and "numbers" than the actual students. I lost all confidence in myself and have yet to begin my journey in the US world. Do you have any advice or suggestions for a newly graduate like me who is scared to start their career because the program didn't make them feel prepared?
Honestly it’s like growing up, or having kids you’re never really “prepared” there’s so much you don’t know and have to learn, but you will learn it, with experience comes knowledge and confidence and eventually you’ll be on autopilot just like other aspects of life. Just don’t stagnate continue to learn and push your self to be a better Sonographer
Hey I saw those guitars in the background and I figured you’d be the perfect person to ask this question. Have you experienced any issues in regards to injuries sustained from sonography work affecting your guitar playing? I’ve been pursuing a career in sonography but I’ve heard it often results in shoulder and wrist injuries and it’s gotten me nervous as playing guitar is my favorite thing to do.
Thank you for the info. I'm a guy looking into starting a sonography program. I am concerned about being a male in this female dominated field. The school I'm planning on attending offers a general sonography degree with specializations in only ob/gyn and abdomen. With these specializations, as opposed to cardio/echo/vascular, will it be difficult to find work as a male?
There’s a lot of males in the field don’t be fooled. It’s like nursing in the 90’s everyone was like omg a male nurse is so uncommon now there’s tons of male nurses. Are there more females in Sonography? Absolutely but there’s a lot of males too so if you like OB or General better do it!!
Have you had any issues being a male sonographer? Like having female patients refuse to be examined by you? Not getting employment because you are male and may need a chaperone during an exam? Etc?
No I work in a pediatric hospital with 9 male techs. In 17 years I’ve had a few patients prefer a female tech and they get what they want plus it’s less work for me. For the most part it’s almost never an issue. I’m sure in woman’s centers they prefer female techs because it is a lot vaginal and breast exams and men need a chaperone for those but other than that you should not have a problem. I’ve worked in ob too and have male co workers that work in ob clinics
Hi, I am in school now very undecided, my plan was to do Ultrasound. That was the reason I went back to school. Now because I think I am afraid of Chemistry and Precalculus btw I dropped those two classes. Now I and taking Stat and a writing course. I really want to do Ultrasound, then was looking at HIM. I’m so confused.
What does general Sonography cover? At My school they have different concentration. 1) Cardiac track ? 2) general 3) echo Could you explain what those mean in detail?
Sonography is the umbrella term though it usually refers to general and ob, cardiac is echocardiography and vascular is vascular technology and covers all the blood vessels and there diseases
Great video, I am enrolled at a community college for associates degree diagnostic medical sonography. Being a male, will I be able to find a career easily and start work? People have said it is a female field and I was worried that this was hurt me find a job after all of that school.
Very helpful video.. just having general confusion on those general sectors I wish there was some type of tree showing the different sectors within ultrasound. I’ve already signed up for community college prerequisites.. excited but there’s always changing if I’m not sure haha!
After 15 years of working in massage therapy/customer service/concierge jobs. I've always been interested in the medical field for a long time. Can i do it at 35? before I become 40 at least?? How could I prepare? How does creativity play into Sonography? Thank you for your informative video!
The medical field is literally a service industry with potentially sick people, your knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy will come in handy as you have to be very good in anatomy for ultrasound, you can do it the only thing stopping anyone from anything is themselves. Creativity is very important in the field as is critical thinking
Hi, I wanted to know the steps for becoming an ARDMS certified ultrasound technician in USA if I have international medical graduation. What documents are needed as part of the process in addition to giving the SPI exam. I was looking at the official website and it is a bit light on the documentation and transcripts format for IMGs. It mentions about transcript and was wondering what exactly is needed to showcase the international ultrasound experience. If someone has gone through the process and can please guide me, thank you.
On a scale to 1-10 how difficult was your program? I was in nursing school, I failed out and due to major mental health problems, and the work load was insane 4 classes, 2 labs, 2 clinics that were 8-12 hours and I had only the weekends to study all that over the weekend. That’s to me would be a 15 difficulty!! 10 if I was able to get my accommodations in time.
Hey! I am in an ultrasound program and I can tell you it’s also very hard. 6 classes a term usually and it’s a lot to keep up with and easy to fall behind. It is faster than nursing though. But I would give it a 10/10 difficultly as it is super hard and so much course work. But it’s so worth it and you can definitely manage.
Im a college student trying to decide between rad tech and sonography. Ive been leaning towards doing both bc they both interest me. Someone told me that rad tech turn into sonographers. What is the best path?
If you like sonography go to a dedicated sonography program. If you want to do both you’ll have to typically do both programs. Rad techs have become sonographers but not every place will allow cross training and there’s a lot to learn in sonography
Thinking of walking down this road. Curious about things ive read where people are saying that this career is a female dominated industry? What are your thoughts and experience on this?
I think all of allied health has a large proportion of females, but I don’t see anything wrong with that, in my department there is 7 men. But I also worked in a department where I was the only man. I have had very pleasant working experiences, and women are great! Even nursing has more men than it used to, but I love working with women!
@@SonographicTendencies its not the working with women part. Im more concerned of workplaces preferring to hire women instead of men. Is being a male a hindrance to getting jobs as sonographers? Have you had any experience of the sort?
@@rainiergomez8998 no if the job is for a woman’s center then maybe they prefer women, but general, vascular and echo has lots of male techs. I know I can even get a job in an OB office if I wanted to.
Thanks for your response. I've been a medical asst. For 32yrs..love it, but about to change my career. I start school next year. I wanted to know if shadowing different areas would be helpful..I am also noticing that all dms programs are very expensive.
Hello That’s very awesome I’m currently want to be a medical assistant or be in the sonography what tips you recommend it the medical assistant program I’m very exited but nervous ??
So with DMS, is neurosonography still a thing? I wanted to become a neurosonogpraher, but I hear a lot that they don't have it in the register anymore? I want to know from you because I know you have lots of experience in the field of sonography. Thank you in advance.
There is no neurosonographer as a job the ARDMS used to offer the registry but they don’t anymore it was for brains and neonatal spines etc. but you’re not going to get a job just doing those exams. Those are just a few exams you’ll do daily as a general or pediatric sonographer

Thank you for this fantastic content. I was hoping that people would be friendly because it's an image, but when you covered the part about tolerating people, I realized this wasn't for me. I want to deal with people who can just follow my instructions, and I know that doesn't exist.
Is being an echosonographer less risky in terms of neuromuscular skeletal injuries compared to being a general sonographer? Do u have to be a general sonographer first before being an echosonographer?
Any kind of job in sonography is gonna put you at risk for MSK injuries, it's the repetitive nature of scanning, not the specialty. But if you take care of your health and at least focus on physical fitness or health the chances of injury are reduced. I've been doing this almost 20 years and have had no serious injuries, only occasional very mild tendon pain.
Im 28 years old just got my ged... living in new jersey. Do you have any recommendations towards what i should do ? Been looking into trades.. but I'm just not sure. Im mostly looking for something that pays a lot, and doesn't take to long to get into. Does that exist ?
Thanks for this video.I practice ultrasound in Nigeria and i have learnt a lot from your sonography videos.I was wondering if anyone in the US will hire a sonographer from Nigeria.I am working on getting ARDMS certification.
Hello! I am in need of help. I recently got accepted to the diagnostic medical sonography program and the echocardiography program. I need to decide what program to purse. Hello, in case you notice this message. I’m very interested in getting an Associate in Sonography.. but I injured my back, some days I have trouble carrying anything heavier than 5-10lbs, other days I can carry up to 30 lbs. Think this would stop me from being a successful sonographer and growing in the field? I’m really good with detail, presentation, finding stuff, have a a bit of background in science.. I just saw your video, I know it’s from a year ago but wanted to ask. Heeelp!!
When do u call a scan for a new day new try...there's a serious need time could be life or death but they are hurting or way to upset..or do u nvr call on and only reschedule it if the parents are calling it..❤️jenn

Hi, can a slow learner like me can enroll or take the sonography carreer, I'm very interested but I'm worried about what I have skill right now, can you give me tips or ideaThank you so much, like your video bro!
It depends if you are in a big city then yeah the market usually has a lot of graduates because every school in the area will have a program. But people still find jobs
Depends you gotta look up the school your interested in and the fees are usually on their website… some are crazy expensive usually, the private ones. Community colleges are cheaper and their programs are great
Yeah a cc is about 5k where I live. A career college near me is 50k 🥴 community has a competitive process to get accepted to the program vs career career college which you just take a couple exams to get in and then you're in as long as you score high
I used to help some radiologists where i used to work as a lab assistant and became really interested in the field of sonography and I was looking into getting into the associates program, however, i've noticed that this is a female dominated career. Would me being a man be a setback? Also, i am almost 30 yrs, maybe too old for this career?
If you’ve passed you registry usually no. A lot of people tend to get hired in their clinical sites. You gotta hustle though show you’re hungry because there’s a lot of people that want your job
I’m not in DMs school yet but, I asked my academic advisor that same question and he’s like as long as you keep up with your graduate counselor they shall guide you. But the program I’m in is private so it probably depends.
Whay are there NOT more male sonographers in the medical profession. It looks like a lot of patients are not going to have a choice about who performs intimate tests, like scrotal ultrasounds, which is ridiculous.
The school I'm interested in requires at least 2 years of direct patient care to apply for their DMS program, and I also don't have any experience in the healthcare field... any advice on what I could do??

I’ve worked in ob too and have male co workers that work in ob clinics
@@SonographicTendencies thanks so much!!
2) general
3) echo
Could you explain what those mean in detail?
Sonography is the umbrella term though it usually refers to general and ob, cardiac is echocardiography and vascular is vascular technology and covers all the blood vessels and there diseases
@@SonographicTendencies wow this is amazing , thank you for your speedy response! Also I will check out the website !
Thank you so much for your great advice 😊
You’re welcome
@@SonographicTendencies I really like that you said that creative people like this job😊
Great video, I am enrolled at a community college for associates degree diagnostic medical sonography. Being a male, will I be able to find a career easily and start work? People have said it is a female field and I was worried that this was hurt me find a job after all of that school.
There’s literally ten male techs in my department. If you’re good you’ll get a job.
Very helpful video.. just having general confusion on those general sectors I wish there was some type of tree showing the different sectors within ultrasound. I’ve already signed up for community college prerequisites.. excited but there’s always changing if I’m not sure haha!
Glad you found it useful!

I'm in the same boat, great questions.
@@SonographicTendencies wow! It's really good to know it from someone active in the sonography field. The internet still shows it's an indemand job lol! I appreciate your videos so I subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in sonography.
How long/Schooling did it take you . And did you do take classes in community college than went to a program after ?
School is about 2 years normally yeah and community colleges are good in case you want to continue your career for management or physicians assistant or teaching for example
Hi im a junior in highschool thinking about doing sonography as a carrer, i usually sike myself out on big decisions. I dont want a boring job and i want to help people but also have a good life/work balence. Could you please give me some advice 🙏🏼
Is there a difference in pay for cardio/echo/vascular in comparison to ob/gyn
is there a alternative to the gel I think I’m allergic to the gel it makes my chest hurt and it feels like fire with needles
Thanks for this video.I practice ultrasound in Nigeria and i have learnt a lot from your sonography videos.I was wondering if anyone in the US will hire a sonographer from Nigeria.I am working on getting ARDMS certification.
hey brother what school can i go to begin my journey??? i currently work in healthcare ans want to make a career change asap
Is sonography specifically a job for ultrasounds, or can you specialize in other areas of the body?
Hello! I am in need of help. I recently got accepted to the diagnostic medical sonography program and the echocardiography program. I need to decide what program to purse. I know they are similar but I just want to know which offers more options in case I do burnout and want to switch to a different specialization. If anyone has any insight on these two positions I would really appreciate it.
I was just typing the work hours.. realistic I will like to know what to expect. I also do hyperrealism art.keyboard and photos w my nikon and dabble in animation so I would like to be realistic about the work life balance 💕jenn
Heeelp!!
How can you find training? I am struggling to find training for sonography even when I have a medical imaging background
Can a sonographer do private practice like start your own ultrasound clinic in the US?
Btw! Ur videos are too good ! Making concepts clear!
I’m a barber looking into go to sonography too!!
Awesome
Do you get full times benefits like PTO and healthcare insurance?
Yes
When do u call a scan for a new day new try...there's a serious need time could be life or death but they are hurting or way to upset..or do u nvr call on and only reschedule it if the parents are calling it..❤️jenn
How i can communicate with you? ❤❤❤
Does an ultrasound tech need to get all their vaccines and shots in order to work at a hospital?
Can you just work on vascular? I do not want to do female or male privates? Also, your video did not bore me like most. Nice work.
Haha thanks yes you can do just vascular or echo
Was school hard ?

Hello, great video! I live in broward county fl, do you recommend a school or program to go to? I only have my Hs diploma and emt certification
Broward community college will probably be your best bet: Kaiser is another option but those private institutions are more expensive
Keiser has an amazing program, from what I heard so far. small classes, tho it’s expensive they are very invested to their students. My Advisor is Paul Barry from Keiser, is an amazing guy. If you have time check him out. He gave me a tour of their sonography department and it was nice and the Dr. and faculties there was very nice as well. They have connections to Broward health, Nova, Miami, FIU, FAU, and also hospitals in West Palm and West Florida like Mianmar
Thank you for all that you do. I'm going into peds cardio sonography 💕 thx for answering my ❓.how do u help littles and their parents when they are hurting or upset. I'm thinking toys ect..but then the scans need them still or not so active. What tricks do u have from exp?❤️jenn

Hi, can a slow learner like me can enroll or take the sonography carreer, I'm very interested but I'm worried about what I have skill right now, can you give me tips or ideaThank you so much, like your video bro!
Great video..what school did you attend in Florida?
National School of Technology
Yep, I do ultrasound too....burnout is real.
Is sonography career oversaturated?
It depends if you are in a big city then yeah the market usually has a lot of graduates because every school in the area will have a program. But people still find jobs
How expensive are Sonography schools?
Depends you gotta look up the school your interested in and the fees are usually on their website… some are crazy expensive usually, the private ones. Community colleges are cheaper and their programs are great
Yeah a cc is about 5k where I live. A career college near me is 50k 🥴 community has a competitive process to get accepted to the program vs career career college which you just take a couple exams to get in and then you're in as long as you score high
Can Sonographer Make Report For Diagnosis
Nice ovation
Do you have to be vaccinated to work or be in school
To work in ANY medical facility in the USA.. vaccination is a must!!!
I used to help some radiologists where i used to work as a lab assistant and became really interested in the field of sonography and I was looking into getting into the associates program, however, i've noticed that this is a female dominated career. Would me being a man be a setback? Also, i am almost 30 yrs, maybe too old for this career?
No in my department there’s like 9 men! Definitely female dominated, but males are very much appreciated in the field!
Hello
Just have a question
Can i be ultrasound tech or cardiovascular tech from an EKG??
And thanks alot
You have to go to school for ultrasound
Were you prepared for your registry test after graduating?
Yes, though I studied a lot.
Is it hard to find entry job after graduate?
If you’ve passed you registry usually no. A lot of people tend to get hired in their clinical sites. You gotta hustle though show you’re hungry because there’s a lot of people that want your job
I’m not in DMs school yet but, I asked my academic advisor that same question and he’s like as long as you keep up with your graduate counselor they shall guide you. But the program I’m in is private so it probably depends.
Whay are there NOT more male sonographers in the medical profession. It looks like a lot of patients are not going to have a choice about who performs intimate tests, like scrotal ultrasounds, which is ridiculous.
may i ask you pls
can i get a job as travel ultrasonography if i graduated ultrasound certification program
you are my in spiration :)
To be a traveler in any medical job you usually need 1-2 years experience because you will not get any true training on a travel assignment.
can I be a sonographer if I have no experience at all in health care filed?
Yes I had no experience in healthcare when I started. Does it help? Yes, but it’s not Necessary at least for most programs!
The school I'm interested in requires at least 2 years of direct patient care to apply for their DMS program, and I also don't have any experience in the healthcare field... any advice on what I could do??
Bro can an indian immigrant be a sonographer in USA. Plz reply🙏
We have 3 Indians working in our department and several others working in CT and X-ray but I think they’re all US citizens..
