Lama Surya Das has helped me toward peace, love and contentment. Years ago - when people still listened to cassette tapes - his tape "Awakening the Buddha Within" pointed the way to real joy for me. I am so thankful that he is in the world for us.
I listen to a lot of guided meditations and I pretty much like them all. Sometimes I need different lessons at different times. I'm from New York so Surya Das's voice is familiar and down to earth to me. I love it.
I love his style. Refreshing and different. Almost manic. His phrasing and cadence is exciting and engaging which sort of lures in the grasping mind, only to help you settle your mind. Interesting approach.
Some people are saying they can't meditate to this. I think you can. Please give this "American guy" the credit he is due, and ask yourself what matters: the voice or the message? Him, or the perceptions of your own mind as you listen? As he says, just let go. Lama Surya Das is a highly accomplished Buddhist who studied directly under many Tibetan Buddhist masters in India and Nepal. He was born as Jeffrey Miller in Long Island, New York in 1950. He grew up during the American spiritual awakening of the 60s and 70s. He graduated from university with honors, but felt joining the workforce wouldn't answer the questions he had about life. In his twenties, he went to India and Nepal where he met, lived with, and studied under Lama Thubten Yeshe, Lama Kalu Rinpoche, H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, and many other Tibetan Buddhist masters. These were some of the first teachers to accept Westerners. H.H. the Dalai Lama is well-acquainted with him and they work together on the Western Buddhist Teachers Conference. He was part of the first group of Americans who left the country and went eastward in search of spiritual enlightenment. It might not sound like it, but Lama Surya Das has decades of spiritual experience and his lessons are worthwhile.

Its probably just the bad side of my ego, but at times I felt that the speaker was talking too fast and wast just mumbling these big words, and it felt some kind of an annoying feeling arising in me from time to time, but I tried to let go, and I laughed at it. Or maybe I was laughing at the ingenuity of the speaker. Cannot determine that yet, since I'm just a beginner. Anyways thanks for the upload.
It might be helpful to bring attention to that judgement.... there could be something to learn from there, maybe that is part of the benefit of this particular meditation for you.
too much talking. i like the teachings but it's not necessary to repeat the same stuff over and over, if you sit down to meditate, you don't sit down to listen to a lecture or somebody's voice all the time

It's good to hear an authentic practice from someone who intuits the western mind.

Nicole H - I totally agree. This is my absolute favorite guided meditation. It’s not try-hard performative spirituality... it’s raw and natural.
This is my favorite meditation... I always come back to this : )

Dedication prayer.

I've never done a guided meditation, was I supposed to cry?
Could anybody tell me the name of the chant at 12:25?
Does anyone know the name of the chant that he recites at the end?
Pas de traduction écrite en français, dommage....😔🙏💜
There seems to be tension in his voice, which makes this challenging.

Anyways thanks for the upload.
great! thanks a lot!
i practice 8foldpath with "BuDhamma" mobile app and it has helped me a lot
Too much talk, in between silences that are too short. Very distracting.
you need to relax in your talk
how can you meditate to this guy's voice? He sounds like a Guido from Brooklyn

got the feeling LSD was performing vs guiding
too much talking. i like the teachings but it's not necessary to repeat the same stuff over and over, if you sit down to meditate, you don't sit down to listen to a lecture or somebody's voice all the time
so why don't you quit watching videos alike and simply meditate without them?
Got surprised there for a minute when he started singing. A small warning would have been great.
listening to an american accent causes it to not sound legit
