I learned that once u learn one really difficult solo, the rest come much easier. About 6 months ago I attempted learning this, but it was far to difficult. Then I learned the solo from One (my favorite solo of all time) with tons of practice, and mostly got it down. About a month after, I rewatched this, and I got it down in only about 2 days. Practice really does help.
I know its an old comment and your prolly not going to reply but thats the exact same thing i did and after one i was easily able to play the tapping sections of a couple a songs .
Actually the “siren affect” isn’t tapping at all. It’s a trill, and he reaches over his fretboard trill hand with his right pick hand and pulls the string up. Same affect, just looks awesome live. Randy uses the same technique in Over the Mountain just before the pause in the solo.
The first time I heard crazy train, I was in my 6th grade reading class. My friend Matt had a mix CD he let me listen to and it was the first track. I listened to it probably 15 times in a row. My friend said “ahhh, you like Randy Rhoads huh?” And it was over with from there. I had just taken an interest in guitar and he immediately became my guitar hero. Here I am at 33 years old, finally learning one of the most brilliant solos ever. Thank you so much for this video!
It's all in the wrist... Think about vibrating your wirst while you have a note held. That vibrating will transfer through your finger and into the string, and you'll get the vibrato effect. So just remember that the wrist is doing the most all of the work. And of course as you get better at it, you can become much more nuanced with how you use your wrist and fingers, and stuff.... Because it's not like you can only get one vibrato sounds out of your guitar.. With nuance, you can play around with vibrato quite a bit (just using your wrist and fingers).
Hold the guitar less firmly with ur fretting hand. It should be able to move rly freely along the neck. Next just wiggly ur finger more don’t try to shake ur hand to create vibrato, shake ur finger on the fret and press firmly but don’t man handle it😂 you’ll be good. In all honesty you might be trying to learn shit too quickly if you’re bending but can’t vibrato. Focus on little things or you’ll hate yourself for it later
+Felix Gerecke tapping with the pick sonds cool for randy rhoads style solos, but for EVH style it is very important thing to play tapping with fingers, just my opinion
Randy Rhoads “I don’t know” solo has a small section of tapping with the pick, bend a full step on the 13fret b string and while bending tap really fast with the pick on the 16th fret. Sounds really cool
Poppa Chris is very good, I prefer Carl for some reason not sure why but i learned quite a few of Dave mustaine's solos from chris that carl doesn't have up
Playing some of this alongside the original recording, certain parts sound different to me, for instance the lick you learn around like 6:30 ish sounds like it has way too many notes and the scale at the end is straight 16ths, not triplets
Nice lesson. I have to practice a lot for this but I think I've got the tapping mostly down. When I try the bend/tapping thing it's really hard so I found another way to play it. You take the fretting hand and tap one handed so the 3rd finger is on the 12th and the 1st finger is on the 9th and you tap like that 6 times and then you tap from the 10th to the 7th twice. That's just how I can play it best. Just figured I would share it because I like both ways. Nice lesson bro
my friend found a plugin on fl studio that gives you different tones so if you just search the song you wanna play it’ll give you the best tone. though i dont know what it’s called
How can I say thank you for this great video?I learnt the whole song with ur videos but i still have a little problem of the speed,Do you have any idea of how to improve the spead of my left hand???
Chris Jackson thanks Chris for the reply and i must say u are right,i just practiced since last month and my speed is improved higher and higher.this song has lots of good licks for improving speed of my hands.
hey great sounding guitar and great lessons do you have a lesson on tattoed dancer by ozzy?i cant find one anywhere on youtube.let me know thanks.john monkman
i have been playiing for a year, and not really learned any solos, so i just decided to learn this one and ive got down about half of the solo in a day.
I pretty much got the solo within the video's time frame. Now all I need to do is (yes, Allen Iverson) practice. The only way that can happen is by having a great teacher and Carl is if not THE then one of the best. Thanks.
Thank you very much for the accurate lessons~! By the way...I wonder that the pickups of your fender guitar are original or replaced ones (single typed humbucker)...
Practice to a metronome, greatest advice a someone could give you when practicing to play fast. Start slow and gradually increase the tempo. Most importantly, be patient.
Hey Carl... always enjoy watching your videos.. .great job.. so thorough.... one thing to add maybe? Just a quick explanation of how you set up your guitar tone.. ??? just a thought
I struggled with it for a while also, I used to just do a run of the minor pentatonic scale starting on the 14 of the low e string and it always sounded good
My phones broken at the moment so I’m on my mums but still thanks a bunch carl! I remember hearing this solo for the first time and thinking it was impossible now I’m using your vid, AND FUCK its easy. Tysm carl ❤
its kinda like the alternate section to change things up between the verses and chorus Usually the song structure goes like this Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge (to change things up) Chorus - Final reprise to end things off

For rral msn
Bro,youre the greatest teacher on youtube and deserve more, keep it up!
Jon Arzuaga realy wow.
No he isnt
If you actually heard the real solo at the start of the solo near the bend part that sounded like CRAP
NO ITS MARTY SCHWARTZ
I learned the song from him dude...
2:40 solo starts here
Matt TheDestroyer 2 thanks

2:40 First tapping phrase

Just use your whammy bar
That is the correct answer.
I’d like to see this demonstrated!

5:28 - 5:38 so goood
I love that you're getting a nice distorted tone with single coils.
this is the best high gain tone i have every seen anyone get with single coils
heard*
Paul Schmidt lol 😂
Look up Eric Johnson
Dhruv Kotecha I know. Lol. He does guns and roses solo lessons and they sound amazing.
Holy shit no joke man
Here I am still practicing almost a year later. You're lessons are great we UA-cam watchers want more!
What a clear and easy-to-follow method of teaching. Cheers for this!
Aw, I only have 20 frets on my acoustic.
Probably should play this on an electric
1999Dman1 need an electrics for that
Ashley Kent Yeah. I have had an electric for about 5ish months now.
David
I feel you bro
David lol I have only 19
Whenever I try to add vibrato to my bends, i just end up shaking the guitar
Hagop Catchatoorian that’s because you have to do it differently. It’s been 5 months, you’ve figured it out yet?

Fantastic breakdown
Thanx Carl.
One of the best teachers on here.
I played this since a teen. Thanks for helping me solo. I always had the rythms
I've been playing this nonstop for a couple days now. my fingers have blistered and one started to bleed. I think ill take a break...
Or you can keep playing like Zakk Wylde did
said no guitarist ever
That's when it starts to feel good thiigh
Bro your lying there is no way you practiced that much that is bull
@@aaronaaronarrman9086 really because i practice like that and i have been doing it for years
Actually I was thinking of doing that one. hmmm...
i loved the lesson... i can play the solo now! almost
This is the most accurate lesson that I found. Thanks.
This lesson was solid! Today I finally vouched to learn solos accurately. You have been a tremendous help. Thank you for your time and efforts
For everybody that can't do the finger tapping, u can use tapping with the pick, sounds very cool.
I'd recommend those to practice pulling your tappingfi ger asides from the string, instead of just pushing it onto the freetboard...just a tip.
+Felix Gerecke tapping with the pick sonds cool for randy rhoads style solos, but for EVH style it is very important thing to play tapping with fingers, just my opinion
Jedan Covek What if I can do finger tapping but I cant use the pick
Randy Rhoads “I don’t know” solo has a small section of tapping with the pick, bend a full step on the 13fret b string and while bending tap really fast with the pick on the 16th fret. Sounds really cool
Brian Griffin thanks I can tap and I think that sounds better
hands down, carl is the best teacher on youtube
Sappy Marty is very good for beginners, he takes a lot of time to really break down what is happening in riffs. Carl is for the more advanced imo
Nathan Rudd Chris Zoupa is also great
Poppa Chris is very good, I prefer Carl for some reason not sure why but i learned quite a few of Dave mustaine's solos from chris that carl doesn't have up
I totally agree man! He's a great teacher.
Your my inspiration sir, all the solos and guitar I learned through you, thank you so much sir❤❤❤

thanks again this was a great morning/afternoon learning crazy train part 1-3
That last parts is hard af

While bending during double handed tapping use your left hand to bend the notes just like playing normally.
What?
What about the whammy?
Best teacher! Keep up the good work!

What tuning am I supposed to be in for the solo ? Have mine tuned down a whole step but sounds a lot lower than yours
I’m pretty sure standard tuning is what he uses
Thank you man❤️🎸
Great from Hungary🍺
any advice for the trills?
I cannot get the sixteenth note triplet part bro holy crap

should I use my index finger to tap? I've been using my middle finger.
