That's terrific Lisa! So strange that anyone would look at you quizzically for what you're doing. The correct response should either be guilt for maybe dropping some trash themselves at some point, or gratitude that someone would do this of their own free will. Me and my hiking partner Lise' pick up trash ourselves on the trails and use that same grabber tool. We pick up about a plastic bag full ourselves on every hike. The top items of trash....plastic water bottles...the caps from those same water bottles...tissue paper....and plastic bags neatly tied of dog poop, like they started doing the right thing by collecting it, and then just figured that they may or may not pick up on their return hike back to their car! Oh, and during the pandemic, lots of masks. Anyway, good for you!

Excellent question! I’m in Silicon Valley and we had an extremely rainy winter last year. During December and January it was so wet and I wasn’t home much during daylight hours so I didn’t pick up any trash at all during those two months… and I didn’t notice an increase in trash lying around during that time period! So I’m assuming people stayed in and didn’t litter. The rest of the year I was pretty consistent with the pickups and the trash was consistent too.

Whoah that’s a lot of trash! Did you notice any trends during the year? Like, if there was more trash during the warmer months vs. the cooler months?
