Wild European Orchids - A new illustration series

- I've been sketching orchids in the field last summer in several places, and I thought it would be nice to turn all my sketches into more finished artworks.
I chose to illustrate all wild orchids that I managed to spot in spring and summer of 2022 - I spotted 9 different species. It doesn't sound like much to find 9 different flowers, but each one was a spectacular find for me - these plants are rare, protected, and they only bloom once a year for a few weeks.

Beautiful and delicate. Yes please I would love to see a series of orchard/? paintings.
I can see how much you enjoy your discoveries in nature Julia and the joy that comes through your painting. Many wonderful discoveries to come I am sure. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, I love those trips and each new discovery! Thank you kindly John. :)
Your paintings are beautiful, Julia. You did such a nice job of detailing the orchid and adding the soft details of the grasses and other plants as a soft accompaniment. Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you kindly Debbie!
You should take a holiday in the Lot in the Quercy Blanc in France, a paradise of wild orchids 😊
This is so lovely! I love coming upon wild orchids in the Canadian North and in Newfoundland. You have inspired me to paint these beauties. I love how you embark on self-initiated art projects too, Julia --something I need to try more of. So good to see you again and to enjoy your gentle respect and celebration of nature!
Thank you kindly Susan! Definitely try painting orchids, I found it very interesting to figure out how they are actually built, how to mix the different pinks, plus it's always nice to spot them! :)
@@NatureSketchbook Great things to watch for --the subtle intricacy of their structures and the sweet subtlety of hues in nature's florals--pinks especially! thank you, Julia! I still remember the joy and utter surprise when I came across polka dotted little beauties in moss (in a cloud of mosquitoes ha, ha, as they were in bog like coniferous habitat)!!
Beautiful work, and the shots of your country side are delightful.
Thank you kindly Kathleen!
I've been watching your videos for a while and I just want to say I love your paintings so so much
Thank you kindly Melis!
