They are hiding cheese types from us. I was at a Mexican restaurant and the waiter put a cheese dip with some chips on the table next to us that a family was sitting at. I asked the waiter "What type of dip is that?" and he responded "Not your cheese." Like I knew this wasn't my cheese but I still wanted to know what kind of dip it is so I responded " I know that, but I still want to know what it's called. What's the name of this dip?" He looked me dead in the eyes and told me "Not your cheese." I didn't think he got the question. So I asked he again sternly. "I KNOW that, but what is this cheese called?!" His face turned to confusion and he broke eye contact with me. He then responded harshly "Not your cheese!" I grabbed him him by the collar "WHAT TYPE OF CHEESE IS THAT!!!" A waitress across the room responded to me "Queso!".

bro when i was in mexico a waiter got really weird to me when i said i wanted a cheese quesadilla. He said 'you understand this is not american cheese? this is white cheese. not your cheese' and i'm like 'yes i understand' and he just kept repeating 'it's white cheese. it's not your cheese. it's white. It's mexican cheese.' with deadly seriousness. I just kept being like 'yep!! fine by me! nbd!' until he brought it.

In Brazil something similar happened because of the great depression, no one was buying brazilian coffee, so the government started to burn the excess coffee to make the prices more stable
The government should do that with money. Just throwing that idea out there
even before the Great Depression, through the Taubaté Agreement from 1906, in order to keep the high profit of big coffee growers (which at the time held a lot of political influence and power, since coffee was one of the most significant commodities for the Brazilian economy) the Brazilian government agreed to not only buy excess production for a set price, but also to encourage consumption both inside and outside the country through propaganda. After 1929, of course, this measure became innefective and in the following decade the government started to burn thousands and thousands of kilos of coffee every year to keep the commodity profitable. I can only imagine how insanely good the smell of that must've been....

As a Springfield, Missouri resident I was fully anticipating mention of the Springfield Underground. Interestingly, the structure has existed for decades and long been utilized as temp controlled storage of cheese + massive computer servers. And for the longest time this place was shrouded in mystery, the subject of local urban legends. Coupled with the fact Kraft has a production facility here as well, and the cheese theories were abundant. The internet has demystified this place in recent years though.
But I will happily accept the largest cheese storage being located in KC. Missouri is thrilled to get recognition for literally anything aside from meth labs and horrible crime stats. 🙃 I'm sure the close proximity to most of the country's dairy production facilities is a handy perk too.

The problem here seems to be less the government, and more the lobbyists for Big Dairy. It was all done to keep dairy farmers going, then to save them from their own greed, then the program became "too big to fail", which chained the government to needing to keep it up. By that point, the dairy industry became too influential and so instead of the government removing those unnecessary subsidies, it was made to help the industry with marketing.

This finally explained why I was not allowed to buy school lunch without getting a carton of milk. I tried one time and brought my own drink. It did not happen again.
I disagree about cheese being unhealthy inherently. I think it has more to do with the quality of the cheese. The cheap crap they serve at fast food places is just that. A block of organic raw milk cheddar is only bad if you're over-eating because over-eating is bad. Just my 2 cents.
It's entirely dependent on who the person in question is and how they live. No matter how high-quality a cheese is, 9/10 of them are incredibly fat-filled. Not the happy fun olive oil fat. The why does it feel like I'm holding onto another person when I stand up kind of fat. That's all whatever if you're quite active, but take a look at the portion size as well as the nutrition facts next time you buy cheese.
When I was going through school you only had the option for regular milk or chocolate milk. You weren’t allowed to have water with your lunch and if you wanted water, you had to get up and go to the water fountain outside of the lunch room.
In high school the milk came with the lunch meal, a bottle of water was an extra charge.

I’m Canada we have a dairy lobby. Basically the dairy farmers are so powerful, they control a major portion of the Conservative Party and influence other areas of the government to keep their business profitable.
Most Canadians know this and don’t care, because it mainly means our ice cream and milk is actually good.

The cheese isn't as bad as the excess sugar in the crust and sauce, due to the government subsidizing high fructose corn syrup. The sugars involved might not be HFCS, but subsidizing HFCS keeps Americans addicted to sugar.

To see a video essay on this topic from a creator I love is like whiplash. Previously the only thing I knew about the cheese caves was my ex burst into our dorm room, waking me up in the process, ranted about the cheese caves passionately after being told about them in their Econ class, sipped their water, then bid me to go back to sleep. I remember seeing the “got milk?” commercials constantly as a kid, and they specifically stood out to me as strange because they were the only commercials that weren’t advertising a brand, they were just advertising.. milk in general. That was weird to me, like even then I was wondering what their angle was and who it was that they were trying to make money for
I always just assumed it was some vague government advisory since it seemed to tie so closely to the food pyramid stuff in school. I was too young to know any of the celebrities so maybe that kept me from gettting swept up in the milk hype
I’ve noticed this with cotton too. No brand or specific style of clothing is being advertised. Just “buy cotton clothes.”
I started developing a sensitivity to dairy around 9 or 10yo. The constant push and messaging about the importance of kids drinking milk was ubiquitous then. I thought there was something wrong with me that I couldn't handle milk.
I remember that too, I was a teen in the 90s, and I collected the ads from my magazines and put them on my walls. I remember reading the fine print at the bottom like "what is this ad actually for??" But I just liked collecting pictures of all my favorite celebrities 😂 And I've hated milk my entire life due to an extreme allergy as a baby and kid, so my family never drank milk.
Got milk was always so clearly referencing Oreos. Even the original commercial was known to be the first major example of soft branding.
haven’t watched any Wendigoon content in months, so I was stoked to see this pop up on my heavily curated feed. I’ve always really respected this channel for being so open about their relationship with religion (as I couldn’t care less about it), but it doesn’t play any factor into their actual content. I can’t think of ANY UA-cam channel run by a former youth pastor (who still openly practices) that I’d be even remotely interested in. I really respect when someone is able separate their personal life from their online presence, and do so very, very well. Again, I’m almost the opposite of religious, but I respect Wendigoon immensely ✌🏻

Government cheese tunnels is my favorite conspiracy to explain to people who haven't heard of it. Without fail they think I'm crazy, look it up, and come back completely freaked out and often apologetic.

@alexandralamberton5615 yes. The shop I work at occasionally carries mizythra, which is a very chalky and dry goat and sheep blend cheese meant for grating onto food. A serving of mizythra is almost 1000mg of sodium. I ate a small piece and was bloated for two days 😬 so it definitely depends on the type and how much you consume.
It's pretty easy to overeat on brie because it's less like a cheese and more like a dip. I can't bring any home with me anymore because I'd legitimately eat the entire thing in one sitting
As someone on ketogenic carnivore diet whose eaten over 160+ pounds of cheese in the last year alone, yet remaining at the same weight after dropping 180 pounds in a single year 3 years ago, I'd argue cheese isn't bad for you. Avoid eating fatty foods with carbs and sugar, or just avoid the carb and sugar altogether. Anecdotally I went from pre-diabetic to an ac1 of 4.5, now can exercise every week for 500 minutes without any pains, and I overall feel better. Cheese is also good for me as I often suffer from salt deficiency, calories wise a block of cheese makes an excellent convenient lunch, the cholesterol issue is a non issue to me as I run on fat for fuel. Cheese is pretty close to a protein gram to fat gram, carb free super food for a ketogenic diet or carnivore diet allowing dairy. All that said, I don't know if I'd be replacing my grass-fed cow cheese with government cheese anytime soon. Yuck.

Funny story. The owner of a paving company i used to work for bought land from a very, very, large Cheese company. When the dirt work started to build his new mansion, they hit a massive, foul smelling pocket of dank, moldy, sticky earth. Come to find out, said cheese company had buried several hundred TONS of cheese there to rot! You could literally smell it a mile away. Lawyers and the court got involved but i really dont know how it all ended up. 😂😂😂
