You really have to burn some new neural pathways to train your brain to work in the obverse. And building the process rhythm helps speed it along. Seat time builds mastery as with any quilty skill building. To start out, some raw beginners might find working on one section (copy the foundation) and cut scraps from templates. That way you build the skill without burning through your pattern fabric/foundations.

@@notesfromleisa-land that is very true. And that’s a great idea trying it out with scraps!! Thanks 😊

Thank you so much. I've been watching others paper piece and have seen some of the most beautiful quilt patterns so I want to learn. I'm a beginner quilter and have most of my basics for quilting.

Hi! I have been quilting for 50 years and am thinking about starting paper piecing! Yikes! I want to tackle a Quiltworks quilt but want to start with a smaller project first. Do you have a suggestion? Thank you!

It seems like this isn't the 1st video of a series. How do I find the 1st one so I can start from the beginning??

If you’re teaching a beginners class why would you ever pick such a pattern. Why wouldn’t start with a log cabin or something with bigger pieces . This has me so confused with so many small pieces!

This is considered a beginner pattern for Quiltworx. Sorry if you’re having trouble with it. The nice thing about UA-cam is that you can pause, rewind and watch again. The steps for paper piecing are the same whether you use rectangles (like log cabin pieces) or triangles like the spikes in this one. I hope it gets easier the more you can practice.

Can you do a tutorial on Indian Summer? I bought a jelly roll kit years ago and now I want to make it and after a thousand reads I still don’t understand the directions. It’s the first edition.

Hi Wyonna. My videos are primarily tips and tricks on processes for paper piecing. I have a video on how to read a Quiltworx pattern that might be helpful if you’re not understanding them. Hope that will help.

You have to have a basic knowledge of sewing. If you can sew, you can paper piece. If you’re new to sewing, then it’s probably a good idea to complete a couple sewing projects first before you try this. Thanks for asking.
