Thank you for posting this video! Even though I am not a professional psychologist, the work of Otto Kernberg has helped me understand myself, others and even so much in our increasingly narcissistic world. Also, Dr. Kernberg is one of the most cogent speakers on the subject of personality and its severe disturbances. This video is a true gem!
There’s a therapist on UA-cam that has this issue I can’t remember the name but it’s awful to see him teaching and hating on the one’s whom he’s teaching should not have his job as a cop should not have a criminal past I find it bafferling he’s working In this field this guy here is very very good at his job these r the type we need to learn from so 🤟🏻👍🤟🏻
@@deborah8788 Thought the same too. Vaknin is good but this one here is on other level. Vaknin just explains this on, lets call it, a deeper level with a different delivery. He's NPD after all. Otto explains it much more clearly and touches on every way
Why his focus on "full employment " here? There are women who raise children, people who have retired or had an inheritance. Also artists who work frequently. This focus sounds so very oldfashioned to define psychological health. I did also miss the subject of deep trauma and how to deal with CPTSD.
I am guessing, but I doubt that money is a necessary determinant of "work", as opposed to contribution. For example, raising children is usually a contribution to the well being of others that takes a lot of time and effort, probably easily fitting under the term 'full employment'.
These theories don't hold up to true reality. Negativity internalized does not have to be environmental from caregivers. There are genetic factors to the rigid all-bad default setting in an individual, it runs in families even when the sperm donor is not part of the family. A child given overtly positive-only caregiving and dynamics, language, and social play, can still end up having extreme negativity bias and internalization due to their own sensory processing challenges and sensory defensiveness, causing them to self-isolate. Habilitation towards structuring internal awareness and sensory coping to increase tolerance and participation is necessary. Stop blaming caregivers when you have not observwd them in real life in their contexts.
Just remember 'overtly positive only'caregiving may be unrealistic is not preparing the child with how to deal with reality and or may be toxic. So positive only can be toxic and at minimum not always realistic or helpful. Overall most people's issues does the in with primary relationships ie primary relationships during youth period antmd then moving into adulthood inclusive of firsts ie first and even. 2nd boyfriend or girlfriend or even first and even 2nd experience of betrayal from a friend or coworker or work environment. So personally for most people parents and what is seen an experienced from parents including second hand knowledge from health parents react to things and issues does create a base of knowledge and a reference for issues that may later unfold in the individual if they consciously or subconsciously hold on to the imprinting or pattern of these people (parents caregivers, firsts & 2nds as reinforcement etc)

Good talk .

I assume you started with Gunderson structural interview and made changes as you saw fit.
Yeah just like Regan started with Trump's policies and expanded from there.

You cannot expect an npd with aspd traits to be anyway different. Dr Kernberg is a lifelong clinician. Cannot compare.
Vaknin=fraud. Don't get scammed

Welcome to a serious therapy
I think it's that he is in his mid-nineties - so most people are retired rather than working 70 hour weeks.
He’s talking about the structure, diagnosis, and treatment of personality disorders. He does seem to have a more classical approach.
Your inability to reconcile the all good and all bad is glaring. You are splitting.
